Lol right?
I feel like this forum often just blindly accepts things from Bloomberg or Forbes Contributors as fact despite their terrible history.
Bloomberg in particular has been posting complete fabrications as "Reports" when it comes to tech for years now. The most notorious of which of course being when they claimed there were invisible spy chips in a bunch of server components coming from China.
Those people want a $1000+ PC stuffed into a small box. It's never going to happen. Consoles are aimed at a market that is fairly price sensitive. Half a grand entry point for a game console is a pretty big no-go for a lot of parents.
Bloomberg historically have been very inaccurate with their tech reporting. What's more reliable than Bloomberg? WSJ might be it? Or is this a joke post...
Fair, I didn't know that! I wasn't discounting the journalist because I didn't like what they said, I discounted them because they're writing for a publication with a bad track record on this kind of thing. I didn't know the journalist themselves has a good track record. This reporter is a well respected tech journalist in Tokyo covering asian tech companies. They just left the WSJ at the end of the year to join Bloomberg.
I have a sneaking suspicion that they have good sources.
Don't discount a real journalist just because you don't like what they say
This sounds absolutely great! My biggest gripe with the PS4 is the damn noise it makes. So annoying. I hope the PS5 doesn't suffer from this, because I can't take another 6 years of this shitMost of the components for the console have been locked down, the people said, including the cooling system, which is unusually expensive at a few dollars per unit. Typically, companies would spend less than a dollar, but Sony opted to lavish more on making sure heat dissipation from the powerful chips housed inside the console isn't an issue.
"Only"?! , considering the number of units sold......that's a TON of profit made.Surprised they can't make it $400, guess Moore's Law is slowing down? Interesting to see how much the Series X costs since it's always sounded like it was $500 minimum.
I wouldn't think so. I can't find it, but I remember the news a few years ago that Sony sold the PS4 for only a $5 profit.
Edit: Nevermind, seems like they made an $18 profit on PS4

Looks legit, I'm glad Bloomberg is taking steps to fix their tech reporting.
PS5 "boost mode" where its the same games/performance/resolution with some bootleg one size fits all ray-tracing layered on top smhAll that would make it a no-brainer for me. I'm not ready to let myself believe that's how BC will work, though.
Still waiting for that Switch Pro...This reporter is a well respected tech journalist in Tokyo covering asian tech companies. They just left the WSJ at the end of the year to join Bloomberg.

nice way to be reductive regarding a games consoles worth when we're on a place to discuss video games
Between the PS5 and PSVR2, I'm expecting to drop around $800 over the next year or so.

Well, personally, I won't be surprised if XSX will in fact launch at a price close to $800.

Huge APU on an expensive production process. Consider that a PC GPU videocard which is about 1/2 in size of the XSX's APU and likely with half the RAM is retailing at $400 right now.
I thought Microsoft were supposed to be this mega rich company that could easily undercut Sony, so why would they release such an expensive console that would doom them.Well, personally, I won't be surprised if XSX will in fact launch at a price close to $800.

Can't do direct comparison due to economies of scale ordering. Since both companies will be ordering in the millions plus efficiencies of not selling it as a standalone product, it will be considerably cheaper.Huge APU on an expensive production process. At that price it becomes a niche product like the 3DO was and NeoGeo.Well, personally, I won't be surprised if XSX will in fact launch at a price close to $800.
This basically confirms what I thought, that we won't see a PS5 full reveal until after E3.
That's my guess. Plus prices would drop relatively quickly and they'd shift to profitable for the bulk of the sales.Sony are going to have to go 499 I cant see them eating more of a loss...
If the BoM is $450 at launch, 499 will most likely still be sold at a loss.Sony are going to have to go 499 I cant see them eating more of a loss...
They reveal is a huge part of PS4 success. After seeing what Microsoft did first they were able to react to it. It wouldn't shock me if they wanted to do the same with PS5. Also you still have games like the last of us 2 that they still want to push before going all in on next gen.
