True. Just saying, if it sells at $399 it'll go viral.

People usually buy phones on a contract they pay monthlyTimes have changed. Lots of consumers have no issues buying smartphones and macbooks at a premium today. Those prices have really skyrocketed. The Xbox one X was sold for 499 and not to much backlash either.
I don't see an issue with a 499 PS5. If its marketed well, it will sell. Even 599 would work if the thing is really delivering unlike the PS3 that didn't offer much compared to the competition that was already available and far cheaper to boot. Most powerful Xbox won't be sold for under 499 I reckon.
Ugh, phones come with a pretty hefty "online sub" as well...with a console, you need to get games as well, not to mention an online sub. not comparable to a phone
If it's $499 it will also sell out at launchSony is going to massive undercut or force losses on MS by making this thing $399. If it's $399 they will sell out at launch.
I think it will be pretty standard, in terms of non-cross-gen games. That is, a minority of the games of course, but more than one or two. I think it's maybe not coincidence that the first two PS5 games we know about are not also coming to PS4. Assuming they're at launch, that's two already, and they haven't even discussed first party offerings yet. Add in a couple more first party, a couple of partnered indie/second-party titles, and I expect it'll be a fairly standard launch in terms of exclusives vs cross-gen titles.
These days they market the console at a loss and lap up the difference in software sales

US elections will also drive up and prices in the most important region.Between coronavirus, trade wars, the decision to use really expensive components, and the scarcity of said components.
PS5 and XSX are coming out at a really bad time.

Maybe if they price $100 controllers, $60 cables, etc
Yes or more. What percentage are the overheads on console manufacturing? Could the PS5 cost Sony $700-800 to build?
The flexing on arguments to get a 399 console... forget it. Et ain't 2013... start saving those 499 dolars...
BOM usually includes manufacture, but not packaging, shipping, retail, etc.....Yes or more.
Put me on the side of $600 price tag here. That price the article is referencing is just the BOM. Hardware/Software, not build labor cost or packaging or shipping or retail adjustments. I really don't think they settle at $400-$500

Cheaper product and being a potato? I hope not all gamers will opt to sacrifice quality for a little less price.
he's talking about tariffs regarding the Trump administration. I haven't followed that situation in a while, but there were talks last year about the Trump administration increasing tariffs on China, and those tariffs would likely effect console prices.
Yah I don't understand this. PS4 was a anomaly at $399 but it was also way underpowered. Both these new consoles actually have current desktop cpu/GPU/ssd components. People expecting $399 are going to be very disappointed.
I can see them losing money on it just to push it harder. But they've already said people would be surprised with the price in a good way.

The big 3 sent a letter to the Trump administration too, in opposition to them. I don't know if those tariffs are in effect, or haven't been put into effect yet. I honestly haven't followed that whole situation since November of last year, but it's a thing that's come up frequently whenever discussion of next gen console prices in the states have come up.
$381
Didn't they take huge losses on Ps3 back when PS Plus wasnt a thing to make them a butt ton of money and their exclusives weren't selling 10m+ copies yet?
