I always took it this way. He is stubbornly ignorant because he wants to believe all people are good people.
I'm not saying that isn't harmful ideology, or that you need to have malice behind your thoughts or actions for them to become harmful. But I definitely never took him as a malicious person - just someone whose idealism can easily be taken advantage of by actually harmful people.
I think he definitely needs to re-evaluate his discernment of other people, but I think Era paints him as overtly villainous, lumping him in with actual alt-righters and other hate movements. I find it a little extreme.

I feel shamed by my own ignorance here. I'd seen some clips of him talking shit, the infamous both sides schtick at work etc, but some of the tweets and videos that have been posted here today are new news to me. Some of the examples (tweets / videos) on this page alone are just embarrassing. That compilation video posted a while back is... illuminating.

We know Resetera is important because people keep coming in every few pages to let everybody know how irrelevant and supposedly toxic we are. That shade comes from somewhere. They can't stay away and they can't stop thinking about this forum.
And they pretend to miss the obvious truth that the reason he's not controversial elsewhere is because elsewhere is full of pieces of shit just like him who think the way he is is normal and reasonable. They have to ignore that because otherwise they'd have to confront the idea that gamers and gaming has a huge fucking problem on social issues.
Let's not let a thorough dumping on a shitty person and his platforming by a supposed advocate for gaming and the gaming community turn into searching the haystack of history for the one hypothetical needle of possible good that came from the horrendous human tragedy that was the Holocaust.

This thread went from highlighting real issues to just shitting on all aspects of someone that clearly has mental issues from a traumatic childhood that I don't think anyone can imagine going through. Pretty disgusting imo.
Your acting like the problem people have with him attending is as if he is some nobody who doesn't deserve to be there.
What people actually have a problem with is the supposed Oscars of video games that presents the best of the industry, inviting (and previously awarding) someone with extremely toxic beliefs who stands up for nazi rhetoric, praises the holocaust, blames a feminist for nazis murdering a woman, outing his sisters sexual abuse then praising the man who did it, uses his mental health and the threats of suicide, laughs at people dying of cancer, abuses his partners and a whole bunch of other things.

Don't know about his friends but I don't judge someone because of that. I'm extremely left leaning but I have friends who are more right leaning. A family member of my votes on parties that are considered far right, but he did helped me trough some dark periods. A lot of my left voting/leaning friends where nowhere to be found then.

I'm sorry, but as someone with horrible trauma and some who knows many great people who aren't defined nor rely on their shitty pasts as an excuse to be a shitty human being. This excuse is and has always been weak, and is insulting to me and many more people who survive their traumas and come out stronger for it. Regardless of what happened to him, and I'm sorry that it did, Boogie as a CHILD did not deserve any of it. But as a grown man who chooses what they put out into the world, he does incredible harm to women and minorities. His sad backstory does not overwrite how much fuel he adds while actively participating and supporting various hate groups that in turn cause trauma and mental health issues for oppressed people.
