The brother choosing to do this is whatever, that's his choice. What's fucked up is the framing that the media has been choosing to take with it. That this guy is somehow inherently a better human than someone would (rightfully) be incredibly mad that the murderer of their loved one got a weak sentence.

Better man than me. though I find nothing wrong in forgiveness I just makes me rolls my eyes that we have to show a level of grace/restraint/forgiveness that is definitely not given to us in situations like this.

Are you criticizing him for forgiving her?
What? No. If that's what he needs to do to make peace with this, then that's for him to do.

I am going to criticize the fact that she got off with a light sentence for murder and that even the fucking Judge hugged her over this. I'm also going to call out how much people are focusing on him forgiving her over the miscarriage of justice that the sentence is.

The compassion showed by Brandt Jean is beyond heart warming. There is no reason to carry hate in your heart for something that cannot be changed.

Do what you got to do to move on, but this is just sympathy porn for everyone else
Long and short of it.

My first take was that this made him a "better man" than me. But no, it just makes him a different kind of man. I do not applaud him for this, but I'm all for it if it makes everything better for him.

It's impressive that he could forgive so.

However, she did coldly kill a man and showed no real remorse except for what was going to happen to her.

Makes me think she didn't deserve such forgiveness.

I dunno

If he blew up and lost his mind in the courtroom i would have been even more empathetic

I cant even wrap my mind around him choosing forgiveness but im not about to drag him for it

She shot the man, then told him to get up like he was faking, and was worried about her job while he lay dying.

I agree that the sentence is too light, but are you saying that the brother is forgiving her because she's white and that if she wasn't, then he wouldn't?
No, he's forgiving her because it's probably the best way he can deal with what happened himself. I don't agree with it myself, but that's for him to decide for himself.

Forgiveness is generally seen as a virtue. Also, you can forgive someone even as you are justifiably angry. You can forgive and at the same time fight against injustice.

Wasn't the killing really an accident, she thought it was her house, right? Maybe he can sense her regret. Idk I haven't been paying attention to this story so please feel free to give me shit if she's been a racist bitch.

No, if it was an accident it would have been manslaughter. She's a murderer. She was convicted for first degree and everything.

Oh boy... Imma let someone else handle this one. But yes, she is full on racist. From a racist background. From a racist family. With a whole lot of deleted racist text messages discussed in court. With a whole lot of racist Pinterest posts discussed in court.

He's free to forgive her if he wants but as a christian, I sure as hell wouldn't have forgiven her, especially after she showed her racist ass online, and her bosses tried to slander his dead brother with drug accusations. And with her only getting 10 years....well justice comes sooner or later in all kinds of forms. When she gets out, hopefully she'll spend the rest of her pathetic existence scrubbing floors for pennies.

She killed him without even second guessing it or hesitation.. a fucking guy eating ice cream and watching TV in his own apartment

All because she thought she was entering her own apartment

Didnt even take the time to assess the situation before firing... Which is fucking insane since she's a trained police officer

There was no excuse for this and we seriously need to address racism, gun violence and police training in this fucking country

shooting and someone and them dying isn't an accident, even if it was her house (apartment)

and from what i understand, how she acted after the altercation is why people think she is of bad character

Its not compassion its being brainwashed by dogma.

pretty much, if you are acting the way you think god wants you to act, then you aren't actually acting as a moral agent, you're just following the moral proclamations of authority

I foresee this moment existing as the main takeaway/talking point from this entire ordeal. It's cool he did something "right", but it's going to overshadow everything the murderer and other people have done wrong

While I doubt she walked into the apartment looking to murder someone, it was obviously not an accident.

The fact that she was so willing to kill someone who wasn't threatening her at all and then after shooting him think about saving her job before saving his life means there's something seriously fucked up with her.

You dont forgive someone for their sake, you do it to benefit YOU. He's a good man, the world could learn from him.

Nobody asked or expected him to show grace. That he did is what makes everything so shocking and attention worthy.
