Fucking hell. I couldn't even imagine the pain he must have gone through. Had I been in his place and had my brother been taken from me in such a heinous way, I don't think I could have shown forgiveness, ever.

People deal with grief in different ways, if it helps him move forward then good for him, I sure as hell wouldn't forgive her

as I said in the other thread this is peak humanity. Forgiving the person who took everything from you.

Its a shame that the worst of us look at this as a form of weakness

Unfortunately our world has too much darkness to embrace the true saints that walk among us

Still I am glad they continue to exist to remind me that... Yes there are still people of deep faith and huge hearts that understand what it still means to be pious, empathetic and whole

While she isn't deserving of such light and mercy its not up to me and thankfully the laws of this land saw justice through this time

I'm not gonna judge someone for how they deal with the death of their closest family members. If hugging her and forgiving her is what he feels he needs to do to move past this and get on with his life then I am not gonna try and say that he is wrong for it.

I'm glad that he will go living without that hatred in his heart but I don't think, if I was in his situation, that I could. Sad to say but I think I would go every second of my life wishing the absolute worst on whoever killed my sibling.

I sure as hell wouldn't do that but the man is allowed to deal with this tragedy in whatever way helps him heal.

I don't think she deserves it, but if forgiveness helps her family get through it, more power to em I guess.

There is no justice in giving a murderer a light 10 year sentence that she'll be out for in 5.

You think there would be any of this forgiveness if the roles were reversed here? This is one garbage ass post and a perfect example of how white privilege works.

this is what it means to truly care about people, to have pure unadulterated empathy running through your veins

I posted this only about him specifically and the fact she was found guilty

I did not know what the sentencing was

Holy shit at only 10 years for murder

If that's what helps them get by, fine. Fuck that judge though, she wasn't a victim of shit.

Me? Fuck forgiveness, our "justice" system needs to be radically warped.

Man there is a lot of emotion in that hug. She deserves every single year of her punishment if not more, but you can see that this meant a lot to her coming from the victims brother

Like others say, after that embarrassing short ass sentence, and murdering my kin in cold blood; then trying to get away with the shit rather than owning up to it; as the department attempted to throw dirt on my fams name with that "Marijuana smoker" shit.....

It couldn't be me...

But that's his choice to make, so..

There is too much emphasis on forgiveness that just serves to coddle and protect perpetrators. It is OK and healthy to withhold forgiveness sometimes.

Forgiveness shouldn't be about what the person deserves or not. Forgiveness isn't excusing the behavior. It's about letting go of the animosity that you feel for them. If somebody drove my car and wrecked it because they were driving recklessly, I would forgive them but I wouldn't let them drive my car again.

You think this story would have played out the same if a black man had walked into a white woman's apartment and shot her?

No absolutely not and we would be naive to think otherwise

I hinted at that in my post but im not mad he went at me for it

Its not right where we are at and hasnt been for a long time. Im not an idiot and am aware of white privilege

It depends on the person and the context...to be honest, a big part of America's faulty justice system is the overemphasis towards punishment and treating criminals as sub human rather than focus on rehabilitation.

User Warned: Inflammatory generalizations
Religious people are so fucked up.

There's no virtue in this "Forgiveness" bullshit. You're just letting a book indoctrinate you to accept injustice.
