I doubt it's really reversible, and even if there's a second turn he'll only start getting tv time now, so it's more likely he'll just reach people he couldn't reach before.

Generally I always felt like that even when right-wing candidates were elected, they basically won on promises of assistencialism, social welfare and even improvement of public service, even if it clearly wasn't their goal once actually taking power. Bolsonaro's popularity is essentially a rejection of all that. It feels like people believe violent repression will successfully deescalate violent crime, without ever affecting themselves, and that the State is only wasting funds (and fueling corruption) with social programs or protecting minorities.

I don't really feel frustrated if this ends up being the result. People are going to get the government they want, even if it's essentially something that I'd plainly call "evil". They aren't getting fooled or misled.

Haddad. I think many people that would vote for here were only doing it because she was a familiar face. After Lula choose Haddad as his candidate, they changed their minds. Maybe the same can be said for Ciro Gomes.

Ciro just stopped growing though, he essentially kept most of his base. Marina's collapsed.

I also voted for Marina and seeing a joke like Cabo Daciolo above her just makes me want to cry even more

a lot of Marina supporters changed their vote last minute to try and get Ciro in the 2nd round, so don't read too much into that

Its because of PT

If pt didn't had a runner and supported another one (ciro or marina), i think bolsonaro would lose
Here many (me included, but i voted for marina) hates PT so much, that they prefer to have a facist in power

Nah, if that were the case his advantage right now wouldn't be that high, and so close to winning even without a 2nd round.

Fun fact, Meirelles invested almost 40 millions of reais in his campaign

He's even with cabo daciolo now, and he didn't spend a dime.

Don't lose hope my Brazilian friends. Here is Costa Rica we had the same scenario. People United against the candidate with the most votes in the first round and he ended up losing to the lesser evil.

This is beyond shocking and frustrating, i'm genuinely scared for a lot of people.

What have we done.

It's hard to see Bolsonaro losing in the second turn. I don't believe he can't grab 3-4% from the people who voted for Alckmin, Meirelles, Amoedo and fucking Daciolo (how??!!!).

We're screwed.

The problem with the lesser evil is that it stayed in power already for a good 13 years. People want to see them out as much as they don't want to see the fascist. This is not a real scenario.

We lost even if we have a second round. Just be strong and start resisting. We need to protect our rights and our democratic institutions for the next year. Hopefully they will survive and we will relearn to value them.

I just don't understand how people who lived through the military dictatorship can vote for this man. Blows my mind.

I blame the Worker's Party (PT) and former President Lula for the destruction of the Brazilian Left and the rise of Bolsonaro.

Thanks, PT.

Well, it is what it is. Has there ever been a case where a candidate managed to make up that much ground during the 2nd turn or would it be unprecedented if Haddad managed it?

this is horrible, not only Bolsonaro almost got it on the first round, but we have the horrible scenario for the 2nd round confirmed,

also his shitty party gained tons of seats, from nothing, with very little money,
Brazil just loves Bolsonaro, he is our next savior... our next Lula.

I accept the left thing, but no way they can be blamed for Bolsonaro. They had a small share, but how the media supported dilma's impeachment and the fact that people can turn an eye for fascism and being assholes is not pt's fault.

But mostly, the fault is in the assholes.

Dilma's fault for breaking budgetary laws that were EXPLICITLY written in the constitution and on other laws, and then pretending it was a "coup" even though there's an article in the constitution that says, letter by letter, that what she did was a "responsibility crime".
The impeachment was 99% on her.

read again.
Didn't said about the impeachment ... I said how the media covered it. A big part on the people's idea that PT is THE corrupt party in the country when it is not that different from psdb or pp come from that.
