Well, it's the direction a minority of the people want to go. Course, they're utterly shameless when it comes to exploiting long-standing norms and conventions so they're punching well above their weight. They're also good at destroying democratic institutions when it results in them holding onto power. It really sucks.
Awesome news. Now women are going to have to give birth to, and likely raise, a child they didn't want/can't afford. So instead of peacefully ending the fetus' existence in a way that would not, in any way, psychically hurt it, it will now have to live what will likely be a miserable existence where they, in most cases, will live lives filled with depression and sadness. Way to go Alabama Republicans, you show those poor women thinking about the well-being of their potential off-spring who's boss.

I'm not surprised but absolutely disgusted with my state. These republicans are using people's lives as political currency to overturn a landmark case for some draconian regressive legislature that they don't even really care about.
Kay Ivey in particular can crawl upside-down on ceilings, shed her skin, and lick her own eyeballs.
They only care about these "babies" while they're still in the womb. Once they're out they better pull themselves up by the bootstraps because these people sure don't care about the overwhelming amount of unwanted children in the deplorable fostercare system, the homeless, or those in poverty.
In fact, it's illegal in Alabama for gay couples to adopt children, they actively make it more difficult for these unwanted pregnancies once they come into the world by diminishing the already minuscule amount of adopters.
They don't advocate for better sex Ed programs in schools, they don't advocate better access to childcare and they won't do anything about the crippling poverty that these two things most affect.
Fuck these people. Fuck them all to hell.

This has obviously been their plan for some time. This is some seriously disgusting shit. I can't comprehend these peoples mindsets.
This all checks out. Roberts is one of those "appearances" conservatives who prefers chipping away at our rights over a long stretch of time rather than enact a ban outright. He's all about shifting the policy window rightward in a way that appears "moderate".

Why would the Supreme Court grant cert for something this easily dismissed? I feel like this could be shut down at the appellate level and it shouldn't go any further.
Yes, there are federal laws, but this type of thing is dealt with by the states.

It almost feels like there are parallels here with what happened to Islamic culture in the 17th century. Science had been leading the way the Middle East for centuries, but then religious fundamentalism took over, they never quite recovered, leaving a "STEM vacuum" that the West filled. Now it's the USA's turn to go from an innovator to a regressive state saying "We were great once. What happened?"
No it's just plausible deniability until they can institute federal prison time for women who abort for any reason, until then they need to pretend that these draconian measures go too far to maintain a cover because that position is too unpopular to jump into the deep end with and won't win or will mobilize enough of a counter point to end it. They know if they "appear" to be against it that it also raises the chances that people do nothing about it because they'll see that and make a logical leap to assume that it'll be handled "internally".
The point is to start with finding their golden goose to get high enough through the courts to get to the federal and end Roe, anything else until then risks that strategy.

Because it creates a problem for their mistresses and affairs. And paying for under the table abortions to get rid of complications.
No doctor will risk performing the abortion for any amount of money if there's a serious risk of life imprisonment.
