A rich and famous person walks free amidst huge controversy. Case sealed so the public can never know the facts. This is all far too familiar in America. Sigh.

Rich celebrity commits crime and gets off scott free, not very surprising. In terms of the legal system anyway, who knows professionally.

I understand people are mad about this but pointing to a sealed grand jury testimony (happens all the time) and a questionable timeline proves NOTHING. All charges were dropped and record scrubbed so it is obvious either they didn't have enough evidence or someone massively screwed up in how the information was presented to the public. I'm looking at TMZ, whoever gave them the info doesn't matter.

Entering into an agreement like this seems wrong from a moral perspective.

She unrecused apparently as it’s her who made this deal
You're literally peddling in conspiracy theory, stop.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office tells us the decision to drop all charges against Jussie was made by Joseph Magats -- the First Assistant State's Attorney -- who was placed in charge of the case after Foxx's recusal, and NOT by Foxx.

People in this thread and people at large thought this was a slam dunk case because of how the media portrayed it. The facts are the facts. And we will likely never know them.

BREAKING: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on dropping of Jussie Smollett charges: "This is a whitewash of justice." http://abcn.ws/2FCG6Hq

Rahm Emanuel: "Mr. Smollett is still saying that he is innocent, still running down the Chicago Police Dept. How dare him?"

Foxx conspiracy is literally a breitbart talking point right now.
If you're on it, get the fuck off, she didn't make the final call and we have that on record.

Joseph Magats made the final call, anyone saying otherwise is just falling for fucked up conspiracy.

So he previously paid them for training, they figured he was an easy mark to extort, they threaten via the mail and eventually up the stakes by jumping him and wearing masks and throw our trumpisms to further mask their identity?

Is this the updated story?

My conspiracy theory that a grand jury indicted him on 16 charges? That conspiracy theory? Yeah, you're right, I could never prove that happened.
Exactly why I made such a stink about grand juries in the thread about it here. Grand jury decisions mean absolutely nothing. Like, 0.7% of them come back as a don't indict on a federal level where there are statistics, and even though there's no stats for state level, there's not much reason to believe they'd be completely different.

No one knows, and with the case dropped, it's likely no one ever will.

WGN, the Tribune, The Sun Times, every local news source out there and even CNN have talked about the Foxx connection.

The guy who flat-out said he wasn't exonerated?
https://chicago.suntimes.com/entertainment/empire-jussie-smollett-emergency-court-hearing/
First Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Magats said the decision to drop the charges should not be interpreted that Smollett did not do what police and prosecutors have alleged — pay his assailants to fake the attack and then falsely report the incident to police.

Nor did dropping the charges mean that Smollett was a victim of a crime, Magats said emphatically.

“Absolutely not. We stand behind the CPD investigation done in this case, we stand behind the approval of charges in this case,” Magats told the Sun-Times. “They did a fantastic job. The fact there was an alternative disposition in this case is not and should not be viewed as some kind of admission there was something wrong with the case, or something wrong with the investigation that the Chicago Police did.”

Magats, who became the final decision maker on the case after Foxx recused herself in mid-February, said prosecutors made the decision to drop the charges against Smollett under the same criteria they would any other defendant.

It’s a nonviolent crime. He has no felony criminal background. If you start looking at the disposition in the case, in every case you need to look at the facts and circumstances of the case, and the defendant’s background.”
Yes, it's worth quoting the full line for nuance. These are facts though like it or not.
Foxx did not make that call.

Rahm is literally the last person that should be talking about justice and the police department after the shit he's pulled. He should be worried about the 100+ million we had to pay in police lawsuits last year.

Probably because of the statement released by Foxx's office:
"After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case," according to a statement from the office of the Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx, sent to USA TODAY by her spokeswoman, Tandra Simonton."

So is the FBI still investigating the letter with the white substance (Tylenol) and if Smollet was behind it?

I never thought he deserved to do any real time for this and if it turns out he was actually a victim I feel for the man but if he was behind this and he's now back to playing the victim, fuck him forever.
