He shouldn't get off so easy but the blame for it coming to this is almost certainly gonna be on the cops I'm betting.

I don’t understand US JUSTICE system. Manafort gets light jail time for screwing us democracy and Smollett gets record cleaned And gives fodder for alt right just by paying $10,000

Innocent until proven guilty not guilty until proven innocence.

I don’t know what happened, but a lot of people owe Jussie an apology. We are becoming a cultural where we attack anyone if there is a suspicion they did something bad without any real evidence. That sort of culture reminds me of the time when they burned women because someone believed they were witches.
Lmao apology for what? He did that shit. He’s paying a fine and doing community service for a reason.
Jussie doesn't deserve an apology, but every minority that lives in Chicago sure as hell does. I don't care how "obvious" a conclusion seems, the way the CPD handled the investigation into an attempted lynching was a travesty and makes me severely concerned about how cases of legitimate hate crimes are handled over there.

Put this in the OP:

ABC News @ABC

MORE: Office of Cook County State’s Attorney: “After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case...we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case.” http://abcn.ws/2FCG6Hq

MORE: A spokesperson for the Cook County State's Attorney Office says there was no plea deal, but rather an "agreement," and that no community service will be required of Smollett. http://abcn.ws/2FCG6Hq

... So he doesn't have to do community service?

What.

What an odd case. Not a plea deal but an agreement. I wonder how they came up with that. I suppose Smollett must have been able to get a lot of leverage from how poorly CPD handled the case's public face.

I'm going to say:

1) We don't really know what is going on. My guess is neither "sides" story is 100% true.
2) Chicago PD lies. They plant evidence and they leak shit to the media.
3) Taking a plea deal (or some other agreement) is not proof of guilt. People take plea deals to make shit go away and not face a potential worse outcome for things they didn't do.
4) If they had him dead to rights, no way they drop this. They goofed on something. It could be anywhere from the whole thing being made up to procedural problems. But Chicago PD did *something* they didn't want coming out in court.

There are a ton of holes in Jussie's story, and I definitely don't 100% believe him, but I'm not going to just assume everything being leaked out of the Chicago PD was on the up and up either.

So no plea deal, simply an "agreement." I wonder if the PD fucked up so bad that this "agreement" and dropped charges has to do with Smollett and his attorneys agreeing not to sue the PD and the city into oblivion.

So hes paying the fine and doing community service out of the goodness of his heart?
When you get in trouble lawyers often have you sign up for community service, or take anger management classes, etc. before any is handed down by the courts. It is then used to typically present to the DA that you are doing what you can to already make ammends, and is sometimes used in a decision to drop or lower charges without a plea deal.

Try getting a reckless driving or a DUI and hire a lawyer and that's what they'll have you do.

Weird thing here is the lawyer's statement claiming he's exonerated. I'm guessing it's just them being shady AF because no agreement stops them from making that kind of statement, and once charges are dropped double jeopardy comes into play I believe.

Yeah, #4 is where it really pays to have a good lawyer.

The PD is not at fault here

The only parties at fault are

1. Smollett for lying and giving alt right talking points
2. Chicago justice department for cleaning his record by accepting a $10,000 bribe

This is a joke

Yep sounds like CPD fucked up something to not even have a plea here. And without the plea he basically can say he was innocent all he wants now.
