Via Deadline:
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is to be remade by French-Canadian broadcaster Quebecor Content – marking the first international version of the Andy Samberg-fronted comedy.

Quebecor Content has struck a formats deal with NBCUniversal International Formats with ComediHa! producing in Quebec City.

The single camera comedy, which follows a group of talented but carefree detectives, was created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur and produced by Universal Television, Fremulon, Dr. Goor Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment. The French-language remake comes after the show was renewed for a second season on its new home NBC.

Taxi 0-22’s Patrick Huard is to direct the local version, which will start production this summer. Casting will be announced later, as will which Quebecor Content the show will air on.
Well this is interesting. Americans may know Patrick Huard from Bon Cop Bad Cop. Lock if old.

Quebecor / TVA are so lazy

unable to come up with their own ideas, they just borrow what already exists in the US and makes a French version.

I love B99 but I'm not sure what it has that would make it worth this kind of deal rather than just making a cop comedy. Unless they get to straight lift storylines.

Oof.

I probably won't be able to tank it, unless it's a really excellent, if not perfect first impression.

I'll watch the first ep and I'm sure it'll cringe me to death. Too much a fan of the OG english crew.

Weird. That reminds me, how similar to Orange Is the New Black is Unité 9, beyond the premise? I never watched either. (IIRC Unité 9 pre-dates the other one)

But why Quebec City though?

Montreal is diverse, it's a real city with stupid funny city problems. Has a metro transit system, so many boroughs.

Quebec City is not diverse at all and couldn't not replicate any of the funny situations that present themselves in Brooklyn.

The illusion of the American version was shattered for me when I found out they shot in LA.

A friend of mine was an extra though, so that was kinda cool.

From reading the latter's premise, the shows share no commonalities other than being about women in prison. And Orange is the New Black had source material by way of a memoir written by the real Piper, though the show only uses it as a jumping-off point.

What I love about 99 is the diversity

It will be all white characters. Guaranteed.
they fucked up by picking Quebec City over Montreal.
Quebec City is the most homogeneous white city of all of North America

There won't be any Holt , Jeffords, Diaz, Santiago or Peralta equivalent in the Qc City version

It's going to be Tremblay, Gagnon, Bouchard, Fournier zzzzzzzz

If I'm not mistaken, no Montréal (or French TVA) main cast has ever been people of colour, since... Ever.

So it doesn't even matter.

Wait, is this going to be set in Brooklyn, just speaking French?

Or is it going to be called Quebec City Nine-Nine or something?

You are 100% correct almost all French language TV shows filmed in Montreal do not reflect the reality of Montreal's actual diversity,

the opposite of Brooklyn Nine-Nine

but Quebec City muhahahahahahahahahaha

Are Canadians unable to watch the original version for some reason?
Well, the show is being remade in French for (mainly) the Quebec market.

And because the original show is in English, it means many French speaking Canadians cannot watch the original without it being subbed/dubbed.

As a French Canadian from Québec, let me just say I have no optimism for this whatsoever.

If they stick to the same character, who the hell is gonna play Terry?
