It also means he should be fresh (though not in game shape) and still have enough time to work himself into shape and become a part of the offense before the playoffs (assuming they don't have an epic collapse). Plus the Browns don't have to pay him until then.
Also gives the team enough time for the outrage to die down and for them to say he's paid his dues and is a changed man. There was no downside for them in signing him, which is a little unfortunate.
