Due to some concerns from thread users, the moderation team has requested that we add a rule to the OP (Rule #7) that requires Beta and Other Early Access keys to be labeled as such when they are listed for sale. This rule explicitly states that these types of codes are allowed to be sold/traded, but that they must be labeled.

I can fully understand Betas needing to be labeled especially since you don't typically keep the game after the beta, so there can be confusion about people buying the game vs beta, but I don't quite follow why the early access keys need to be labeled.
I mean, they are stuff like steam releases, that you will always own, and are just a work in progress. What benefit is there to forcing people to label stuff like Risk of Rain 2 as early access. Logically someone should be going to the steam page and seeing that before they decide to buy Risk of Rain 2, and are buying it because they think the game in the state it's currently in is worth buying.
To me they aren't all that different as GaaS games where you get the game and get constant support for the game for a while until it reaches the final product. If we are going to be labeling early access should we not also label GaaS games as seemingly the point is to warn people they are still under development and subject to change over time?
Or are we talking about some different form of early access, which if so given early access is a huge category on steam the wording is clearly causing confusion for me.
tl;dr - I understand the need to clearly label beta codes, I fail to see why there is a need to add a rule about early access games given you own games like Risk of Rain 2 like you would any other game.
Makes sense to me. Nothing wrong with giving people a heads up on Early Access content.

I think the wording can probably be changed. At the time, I was thinking: "This way there won't be questions about Alpha keys, etc" but didn't really consider games that are truly just early access.
I'm going to leave it up for discussion for a little while, but I'm fine with changing the wording if we need to.
I believe a user purchased a code from a Seller and then realized it was a Beta code given out by a developer. They messaged me to ask about it and I told them that it wasn't really against any of our current rules. I suggested they message a mod to get their opinion and that's how we got here. Nothing major, but I get the thinking behind it.
Thanks for the info, my response is the same as the other person. Early access/beta is getting harder to define every day. I'm not sure putting the determination on the seller will solve it, because interpretations may vary. But if you and the mods feel this is best you could see how it goes.
