Won a Blackout match last night on Nuketown and it was only me and one other teammate against a 9 people in the final circle. We managed to kill off 3 of them and then popped a sensor dart and noticed the remaining 4 were underground camping. I just happened to have 2 Barricades on me and I put one near the opening on the north side of Nuketown and the other by the well in the middle of the map. The other opening was already eaten up by the circle so they literally had no way out....

My teammate and I hula hooped for the rest of the match above ground while the circle killed the campers below....No one could hear their screams....Muahahaha (evil laugh).

That's what I love about BR.

Hades will be done today and then onto the VKM for diamond LMGs. This nuketown only playlist came at the perfect time for me to grind headshots with the LMGs. I just camp in the second floor and mow everyone down. The hades wasn't as good at this compared to the titan but I expect the VKM to just demolish folks.

I don't know if I should be excited for the 1.12 patch today or not... they really need to nerf some specialists, especially Prophet. Also they have to do something with the season pass. I mean we a 4 months in and all we got for the regular multiplayer are 2 maps? But I'm afraid we'll have to wait until the next operation goes live... the season pass is the biggest pile of garbage I've ever bought as an add-on for a video game. As of right now I would be more pleased if they go like "fuck it, we are giving away the maps for free to everyone and season pass owners get their money back as CoD Points" or something like that.

I couldn't agree with you more re: the map packs. I wonder if I can reverse the charge on my credit card and use the reason that they didn't deliver what they promised. This is absolutely ridiculous, and yes, a total waste of money. I am never, ever, buying a COD season pass again.

I think it would be hype as hell if we got a MW version of Blackout with famous MW maps making up the areas and MW characters to unlock. Who wouldn't love to play as Captain Price, Ghost, or Gaz?? I'm just thinking about how the next CoD should play and I'd be bummed if it was missing a BR or something. The healing system, the TTK, and everything else just feel really nice I kind of hope they just use this CoD to build off of for the next games in the series. It would suck for them to jump back to the old style after this was so well received.

Patch took me 15 minutes to download and 45 minutes to copy. Seems legit.

Anyway, the changes to Blackout:

  • Gameplay Tuning
    • Armor
      • Level 1 Armor damage protection reduced from 30% to 15%.
      • Level 2 Armor damage protection reduced from 40% to 25%.
      • Level 3 Armor damage protection reduced from 50% to 35%.
      • Removed explosive damage resistance from Level 3 Armor.
      • Removed melee weapon damage reduction from Level 3 Armor.
      • Increased Armor Plates required to repair a single durability pip of Level 3 Armor from 1 to 2.
    • Concussion Grenade
      • Reduced status effect duration.
      • Reduced area of effect radius.
      • Reduced throw distance.
      • Reduced opacity of the white flash when initially concussed.
      • When concussed, players can now use Equipment, continue holding Equipment, perform melee attacks, and switch weapons.
      • Reduced hip-fire spread while concussed.
    • Cluster Grenade
      • Increased time to detonate after impact.
      • Reduced damage of mini-Cluster Grenade explosions.
    • General
      • Players can now aim down sights immediately after interacting with a door.
Full list here: https://redd.it/al3hc3

Seems like a Barricade is now a very strong counter to concussion in 1 vs 1 scenarios.

Edit: Nice to see Zero will be getting a Numbers outfit + unlock mission as well. Wonder what it will be, since there aren't any disruptor grenades in Blackout. Maybe it will be "destroy x pieces of enemy equipment + top 30/15"?

And I thought Ambush would be a solo mode? It is yet another special quads mode...

Well that was a game. Went afk during the deployment phase, thinking I had vibration on to notify me when the match started. I didn't... When I got back to the game, I was already parachuting near Lighthouse. First circle was above Firing Range. Killed one guy in a gas station near Lighthouse, then tried to run to the circle since there were no vehicles around (believe me I checked). Luckily I had Outlander. Spent like 3 minutes outside the collapse in total and ultimately ran out of healing way before the wall. I knew the collapse would kill me, but I didn't go alone because I got my second kill gunning down some sucker shooting another guy, thinking he could survive the tick damage. I had 10 health left at that point. Finished the game at #17.

Honestly, I had a lot of fun.

Still very disappointed about Ambush, though. Maybe I misread, but I honestly believed this would be a solo mode.

Hahaha. Dropped together with a guy, so close we almost bumped into each other with our parachutes. I don't think he saw me though, as I managed to punch him in the head as we ran inside the building looking for a gun. After my first hit the guy runs a bit further, then turns around like he is saying "just roll with it, man" to himself and starts punching back.

We had a fistfight to the death inside a dark building.

I won because I got the first hit, but I wouldn't have been mad if I lost. That was amazing.

When I started looting the place the first thing I noticed was a Hades right at our feet...

Edit: Last game, got to choose between Rampart and Swordfish. My dumb ass goes for the Swordfish, because I am used to it in MP. I forgot that even a Spitfire is more accurate in Blackout.

Really skeptical on the armor nerfs. On PC at least I felt like the TTK was more or less perfect, it's pretty reasonable to be able to kill people but you don't just die instantly the second someone starts shooting at you. The damage reduction nerfs mean that now you take 1-2 less bullets in most circumstances which I feel makes survivability too low. I can understand why they felt like it needed to be changed for console but I don't think that PC should be stuck with too fast of a TTK because they're forced to have parity with the console version.

Of course I haven't played with it yet though because the PC update looks like it's coming on Thursday... Hopefully we actually get the mastery camos then and not several days later for that.

Armor nerfs really feel like a significant drop in TTK. I haven't run into a L3 yet, but L1 feels like it offers no protection whatsoever. Like it is made out of cardboard. Absolutely not worth wasting plates on either, which is ironic given that you could now save them for a L3 you might run into.

It isn't necessarily a bad change in my book, since TTK was kind of high before the patch with everyone running around in fully repaired armor.

Edit: even L2 gets you melted within seconds at close range against something like an SMG. Especially if the other person is hitting head shots. Something L3, of course, doesn't have to worry about.

I would still say they should have just taken L3 out of the game.

15% is barely anything, it means that it's only situational whether or not the armor will even make a difference in TTK. I feel like if anything they should get rid of the bonus HP from the Trauma kits and keep the damage reduction the same if they want to lower TTK. But as I said before I really don't feel like this change was needed on PC, the TTK was already in a decent spot. It's just going to encourage camping and playing defensively more.

Yeah, 15% is nothing. Someone could do 176 damage to you and it would still kill you (176*0.85=149.6), killing someone with lvl1 armor is gonna take 1 extra bullet at most.

Have they done any significant optimizing for Blackout on base PS4's since launch? I had the game on PS4 Pro, but that system has bit the dust, and now I'm stuck with my original PS4. I got back into the multiplayer recently and want to start playing Blackout again, but if I remember correctly it ran quite poorly on OG PS4s around launch.

So after these changes TTK is about 77 - 82% of what it used to be. That's drastic but I guess Treyarch never doesn't overkill.

Cluster is also never going to kill anyone again with that delay, but I'm more than fine with it being a tool for flushing people out of cover (or vehicles).

The more I play the more I dislike it. Right now, when someone sees you at close range it basically means insta-death.

A gun like the ABR was already very good and has now become outright broken. Super accurate and one burst is all it takes to kill someone.

Aside from texture pop-up, mainly after you land somewhere, it has been a smooth experience all-around for me.

Haven't played but honestly the comments make it seem like what people wanted. Better gunplay/aiming wins and if you get the jump on someone you have the advantage. Can't wait to try it out.

Level one was always questionable should you repair it. Saving plates for a looted level 2 or 3 from a kill was worth the wait and you can always stumble upon another level 1 somewhere on the map.

Cod's community is massive and "what people want" is not something you can really determine. If you've ever seen a thread talking about what the perfect Call of Duty is you'll realize that many people want polar opposite things. Sure there were some vocal people that didn't like the extended TTK in Blackout, (especially with tier 3 armor) but there was also a lot of people that didn't say anything because they thought it was fine. Any changes to the TTK is going to be liked by some and disliked by others, so I think it's not really accurate to say "this is the change the community wanted."

Lowering the TTK generally makes gun skill matter less. If you're able to get the jump on a guy, miss half your magazine, and still kill a guy that played almost perfectly but wasn't prepared for you then it's not all that skillful. It makes the game a lot more based on who sees who first, and while making sure that happens in your favor is certainly a learned skill it also makes the game more luck-based. Especially in Blackout even if you play perfectly and try your best to mitigate getting surprised, there's always going to be those times where you're running through a field and get killed by someone that was in a location you couldn't feasibly scout out and attack you when you're too far away from cover. The longer TTK gave you more agency in gunfights as it meant there were less times where there was basically nothing you could do to survive. Lowering the TTK means there's going to be more times where you get lasered by some guy you couldn't possibly know was there before you had a chance to react in any meaningful way. Now one thing I will say is that lowering the effectiveness of throwables does make the game more focused on gunplay, but those changes could have happened without touching the armor.

Obviously vocal minorities and everything but most of the feedback I can find on Reddit about the armor changes are negative. The consensus I can find is that they only took issue with tier 3 armor before and that 1 and 2 were fine, but the new changes make it so now tier 1 and 2 are almost useless now.

True with the community size.. it will take more than a day or two to see how the overall feeling is with the changes.

Players who are spotted out should be at a disadvantage though. And your argument could go the other way pre-patch. Longer time to kill causes the player spotted out to turn hit a few lucky shots with a more powerful gun when he should have already been finished off. This just changes the dynamic of don't rush clumsy or be caught out of cover.

I like the suggestion earlier how barricades can be deployed when concussed!

Have been playing Blackout only since yesterday, after two weeks of nothing but MP. Last few matches it feels like I am finally getting back into the groove with two #6 placements in three games. My (piss poor) overall k/d is slowly rising as well.

I usually stuck with hot spots like Asylum, Firing Range, etc. But lately I have been actively searching for more low profile drop spots. The armor nerf actually works out here because you aren't screwed as hard when you don't find anything, which is a risk when landing at, say, gas stations or trailer parks.

I also stopped using shotguns as a secondary gun. SG12 can be useful, but the MOG is trash unless you are in somebody's face. I feel like I am much better off with a fast SMG like the Spitfire or Saug.

For the MP part this is again a really disappointing patch. I'm looking forward to the league rules but otherswise this is a bummer.

The new TTK adjustments in Blackout are 100% hot garbage. What the fuck were they thinking?

All they had to do was adjust the concussion nades and yet here were are....They pulled a fucking Blizzard on this one. This was way too heavy handed of an adjustment.

If you're caught off guard, you're toast. There's no hiding or getting a chance to react. You're a goner.

That Blackout update is so bad. They wildly overcorrected. There were already 2 (!) direct counters to concussion grenade, but let's balance the game around noobs who can't be bothered to use them.

Concussions are obnoxious and would be a non issue if they just performed like they use to on older games. No reason why it should stop movement restrict aim ect it was broken prepatch.

It's still kinda bad and needs to be changed concussions are fine in the old games.

I do agree the armor nerf was a little much though they should just remove level 3 and revert back the armor mitigation on one and two.

Concussions are still going to wreck someone at close range. From what I can tell in an hour or so last night, this patch seems to just make it so that you can't chuck a concussion 50 yards and then make a wild push uncontested, which is how that should function, IMO.

I'll need a little more time with the update to see if I still feel this way, but I still got caught off guard by a concussion last night and paid the price for it and I was still able to use them successfully in an offensive situation too.

EDIT: Also, I know that the Trophy System can counter them, but what's the other counter you mentioned?

Reinforced got me killed a few times. Rushed in and Bam was immediately downed.

Watched the kill cam and it reduced the stun significantly.

That's not really how it works. You don't (well, shouldn't) balance a game like Blackout around rock paper scissors.

Yeah. Treyarch have totally fucked the game with this last update....Atleast in Blackout anyways. Few of my friends and I noticed how insanely fast the TTK is now and it's just not fun to play. And it goes both ways - I just melted a dude with Level 3 in .5 seconds like he didn't even have it on.

My hope is that someone over there is looking at the data because if it stays like this I won't be playing the game. It's that bad, in my opinion.

First game of the day. Might as well stop because it will all be downhill from here:

blops4_firstgameijk00.jpg

Second victory overall and I didn't feel like it would be for a good portion of the game. I dropped at some sheds in the desert and it was mostly a fight against the circle. Worse, the game gave me nothing but ammo and perks. Got a GKS from a nearby building and later a Maddox from a windmill. I groaned when I saw it, but I happily take it back. That gun carried me. I don't like it at all in MP, but here its decent damage, high fire rate and especially accuracy were a big help.

I feel like I played it really smart this match. Used all of my equipment where appropriate, even using up my two cluster grenades in the final circle just to flush the other two guys out of cover, knowing I still had a concussion and barricade ready for the final shoot-out. In general I just have a better feeling what lines to follow when running through the open and where to position myself. Plus spatial awareness I guess? I no longer blindly run somewhere. When the circle is 100~ meters behind me, I will try to position myself at the back of a ridge so I don't have to worry what is in front of me and I can check my back for stragglers. In case of the final circle I got a lot of mileage out of abusing bushes for cover at the edge of the circle, instead of going for trees like everyone else.

So many times it seems a win comes out of matches that start as a disaster or just don't feel they will amount from much.

Congrats on the win!

Curious to see what the camo progression will be like. Hopefully no 100 headshots etc. for each gun...

2x merits is a nice bonus. I am still only level 17 and progression is fairly slow.

Thanks!

Yeah, you really can't predict what will be a good match and what will not. In a couple of matches just now I was in a very favorable position, but something unexpected happened and I 'only' made it to top 20 - 10. It is the charm of the game, especially if you manage to make something out of seemingly nothing.

Another example of disastrous starts leading to great things: last game I had a bad drop and had to run 300 meters through the desert to a gas station to find something, anything. Someone had beat me to the punch, however, and looted almost the entire place clean. I managed to get the jump on them with the one shotgun they hadn't looted and from there I went all the way to... #2. I could have taken it, but I was dumb and didn't go for the high ground. My opponent was already there, but he wasn't aware of my position and I could have set up a barricade and concussed him. Alas, the wisdom of hindsight...

Edit:
When I jumped back in, two days ago, I sat at 0.70 k/d with 18 top placements in 140 games. Now I have a 0.83 k/d with 30 top placements in 165 games. I have 135 total kills, whereas yesterday I had about 100. So yeah, things are going well currently.

Edit2:
Just discovered they also changed the Numbers outfits' flashing colors from bright red to a bit more understated orange. Mostly because the flashing red attracted team kills. I personally like it a lot, the orange meshes really well with the black outfit and you don't stand out so much in Blackout. But of course people at r/blackops4 are pissed off about it...

I'm looking forward to the pro rules playlist coming out today. No Ajax, no Torque, no seeker, no reactor core, no Nomad, no Titan, no Hades, no VKM, no MOG 12, no SG12. Sounds like a wet dream.

I wonder how I do myself with some restrictions like no high caliber, no UAV and so on... but the above mentioned restricted is a godsend.
