**********DRAGONBALL SUPER SPOILERS**********
EVERY SINGLE TIME...I am so sick of this tired trope where Goku falls short right before wining a big tournament. Outside of the Urani Baba ones, Goku in has participated in 8 tournaments, most of which he was the clear favorite. Yet, by the power of bullshit, he has only won but A SINGLE ONE!!!!!!!
Let's refresh our memory, shall we?
1) 21st World Martial Arts Tournament
- Goku withstands all of Roshi's attacks and right at the moment of victory, he loses because Roshi's legs are longer
2) 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament
- Goku masterfully evades Tien's deadliest attack and then knocks him out cold with his clever Kamehameha. He has complete control of the situation until he hits a FREAKING CAR and is considered ringed out first......
3) 23rd World Martial ArtsTournament
He won, yayyyy. No wonder this is the best DB tournament ever.
4) Cell Games
I am not too sour on this one because I like Gohan, so I am not going to harp too much on it. I still think he should have done better against Cell Jrs tho.
5) 25th World Martial Arts Tournament
Tournament was cancelled because of Buu nonsense, but we all know Goku would have beat Vegeta into the ground.
6) End of DBZ tournament
Not to much complaints here because it tied nicely to the ending, but again, Goku's win for sure.
7) Universe 7 vs Universe 6 Tournament
Not to mention his loss to Frost, this was a perfect setup. Finally, an antagonist with a cool factor that hasn't been matched since Cell that had Goku conjure up what fans wondered for years, Kaioken + Super Saiyan. Yet, conveniently Goku's power starts to drain, and he rings himself out leaving the fate of U7 to a guy with big nipples.
8) Tournament of Power
Finally we arrive to the end of Super, and wow, Ultra Instict. Some say the greatest Dragon Ball transformation since the original Super Saiyan. It's a striking looking form hinted at a while back during the RoF, and made clear to be the ceiling of power. YET, by the powers of tropes, it somehow has a severe drawback that cost Goku the final blow at Jiren. Look, I don't hate the ending of Super, I think it's well done, but for a form that has been hyped for 6 months that actually delivered, why repeat the same fallacies? I was so gutted when I read the spoilers, but that thank GOD he at least he didn't get ringed out in episode 130 and helped out Freeza and 17 in securing U7's victory.
Discuss.....
