I expect we'll see more "tips" from the Liberal party to reporters about JWR as this election continues on..
Wow shocking news, looks like the top 5 travel claimants are from *gasp* BC. Who could have guessed?????

Now how many of those are married to a registered lobbyist and made a big stink in the national media over conflict of interest?

If you find yourself asking why the government is covering travel costs for lobbyists you get a cookie.

Do all the spouses lobby too? Great way to game the system to not pay for travel and do lobby work on the taxpayer dime. Use that lobby money elsewhere. Workaround for extra public funding for particular lobbyists.

If you're a cabinet minister and your spouse is a lobbyist then that's a big no no.

But is the grift even working? Everything is blowing up in his face.
Worked well enough that he's got a majority government and is using said majority to plunder the province for the benefit of him and the wealthy folks, folks, folks he's supported by.

How many blue provincial governments is that now...? :S

Another reason we have to try to keep the CPC out of the federal government.

Oh Alberta what have you done?

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney told oil executives that environmental groups might think twice about exercising their right to protest if Alberta took a firmer approach, citing Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin as one example.

In a fiery but carefully-worded speech to oil executives at the Oil Sands Trade Show in Fort McMurray Tuesday, Kenney worked to encourage resentment and animosity between business leaders and environmentalists.

"They figure they could push us around, that we were the weakest kid in the school yard," Kenney told the oil executives. "You know what happens in the school yard? The bully normally picks on the kid who doesn't push back."

Kenney was promoting controversial plans to create a $30 million "war room" and launch a public inquiry targeting environmental groups, when he cited examples of autocratic regimes known to jail or murder their critics in an apparent attempt to explain why Alberta needs to get tougher with environmentalists.

The Premier shared one anecdote, claiming Putin sends environmentalists to prison camps in Siberia and are never seen again — Kenney suggested he wouldn't advocate doing that in Canada, but underlined his belief that Putin's approach to dealing with environmentalists is very "instructive"

Now he's not saying he's just sayin'

Jason Kenney is giving a stellar performance on "So You Think You Can Harper".

Say what you want about Notley, she didn't have Amnesty International telling her government off.

Not for the tree, it wouldn't.

Oh no, Kenney is going to be the next CPC leader when Scheer (hopefully) loses, isn't he?

Not shocked about what kenney said. At the moment I think the UCP loses seats in Alberta in the next provincial election to the AB NDP. The UCP has focusing more on stoking divisions and obsessing about the ABNDP then actually governing the province since they came into power.

When you literally don't have any opposition, you can afford to do whatever you want lol

It's pretty much true everywhere. Cities are Liberal, rural areas are not although we have NDP pockets here and there.

As for Alberta I don't think they'll win unless UCP splits up.
That plus general disdain of the incumbents was the only reason the NDP won the last time. But basically like the Quebec experiment, it was a protest vote and not a meaningful desire for change.

I think both the 2015 and 2019 provincial elections indicated that Alberta has turned into a two party or maybe multiple party system were the government switches hands more often. Parties have formed government again despite only having one term in power the first time they came to power in other provinces like BC. I don't think it will require a spilt conservative vote for the ABNDP to win again(even though it would help them) because the conservative vote will gradually decrease on it's own over time as the cities continue to become more friendlier to less conservative parties even though the province will always be tilted towards the conservatives a bit.

Also if kenney does not start governing soon voters in Alberta will start questioning if they UCP deserves to form another majority government in four years time. They elected the UCP because they promised more jobs and to fix the Alberta economy. If they don't make any progress on the economy they might struggle in 2023.

A senior member of the RCMP has been arrested and charged under the Security of Information Act, CBC News has learned.

Cameron Ortis — a civilian member of the force with expertise in East Asian affairs, critical infrastructure and the use of 'bots' — faces three charges under the rarely used law which deal with communicating or confirming special operational information.

He has been charged with offences under the Criminal Code and the Security of Information Act, including breach of trust by a public office holder, unauthorized communication of special operational information and unauthorized use of a computer.

"The charges stem from activities alleged to have occurred during his tenure as an RCMP employee," said the force in a statement.

"As this investigation is ongoing, we will not be making any other comment at this time."

A source tells CBC News that because Ortis' work touched on operations across the government of Canada, federal government departments are conducting in-house damage assessments in the wake of his arrest.

I'm guessing this has something to do with China.

It seems Doug Ford lied about the Ontario deficit too.
When you don't have a massive deficit to justify cuts, make it up.

It's worse than that...

They don't run the online infrastructure, thats contracted out to Shopify
They don't run the warehouse infrastructure, thats contracted out to another Company
They don't run any stores, that job was taken away from LCBO.

Quite literally, they don't do shit and they still lost money. How bloody incompetent do you have to be to be as a Drug dealer to pull that off.

Never underestimate Ford's ability to screw something up. He could be making a cup noodle and somehow end up burning the house down.

A sneak preview of what awaits the rest of Canada.

A curriculum review panelist recently appointed by Jason Kenney's government is an American scholar who specializes in work looking at public subsidies for privately-run religious schools.

The American researcher, Ashley Berner, confirmed to PressProgress that her work is "supported" by the Charles Koch Foundation, a right-wing organization pushing for public-funding of private and charter schools in the United States.

The Charles Koch Foundation told PressProgress it gave her research unit nearly one million dollars last year.

Last month, Education Minister Adriana LaGrange named the foreign, Koch-funded scholar as one of the experts on a panel that is tasked with rewriting the curriculum in Alberta schools — the panel includes no current Alberta teachers.

Glad to see that turn off the taps law stalled and in the news.
Remind BC voters what sort of power the Alberta Cons would have and the lengths a unified Alberta Conservative/CPC gov would go to in an attempt to make BC comply with their demands. The threat to all BC is real.

This election is bringing the bigots out of woodwork. I saw someone near Yonge wear Make America Great Again hat yesterday and now today saw someone else wearing it again.

I wouldn't blink an eye if they wore make Canada great again. Its just the whole ideology and white supermacy that is linked with US makes me uneasy around these people. They literally have to go out of there way to get those.
