No, it didn't. The "windows CE compatibility" was nothing but a set of libraries that was included in this SDK:

Like less than a handful of games total in the entire library used this. Sega actually sought out microsoft to put the "compatible with Windows CE" logo on the DC for marketing reasons. The Dreamcast was in no way compatible with Windows CE, nor did it run anything close to Windows CE. There is nothing microsoft inside the dreamcast at all.

the original Famicom had a modem peripheral in Japan didn't it? Is able to connect to anything at all in anyway?

Hah would assume not but i have no idea. And i really need a way to check how my 80's japanese stock market shares are trading.

There was this cool website to go to on the Dreamcast to download stuff to your VMU. I totally forget what it was called but what a cool time.

Before I really knew how the internet worked at all I tried to connect my dreamcast to it. You know, wirelessly, as you do. This was in 2000 mind you.

They also released this tool back in the day where you could make animations and really simple games for your VMU on your PC, then either email them to yourself so you could download them onto your dreamcast, or upload them to a website that hosted lots of them back in the day.

About a year ago I wrote a small tetris application for the VMU, too, in pure assembly as part of my book on Dreamcast programming. The VMU is extremely interesting tech. The way you draw to the screen is fucking bizarre. More capable a machine than most realize.

The CPU for the VMU is called the Sega Potato, btw, which I love.

Pretty sure we're talking about the same tool and place. IIRC the tool was from the DC Magazine in the US? And they printed the website? I remember there being a bunch of really cool stick figure fighting animations. Remember when those were big?

I'm posting in my office right now and my DC is all the way across my condo in the bedroom and I can still hear the disc drive occasionally spinning up as it loads a new screensaver graphic.

It sounds like a torque wrench lol.

Our previous family PC was right out in the living room, like right out in the open. The way our house was set up, all the rooms fed into the living room which then fed into the dining room, the family room, the kitchen, etc. That means from every single bedroom in the house, if anybody walked out, they instantly saw the family PC.

Do you know how nerve wracking that is, to be 14 and right in the thick of puberty and that being your only outlet to nudity? I of course dared it, but it was like dancing with the devil. The Sega Dreamcast was a gift from god.
