My office has semi regular movie nights, so I ended up watching CM for a second time, and I don't think a rewatch has ever made me turn around on a movie as much as this one did.

On my first viewing, I thought CM was perfectly adequate but nothing exceptional. On second viewing, I fucking loved it. Not having to constantly try to figure out her backstory with the whole amnesia plot and odd plot structure of reconstructing her history allowed me to just enjoy the movie for its zany tone and character dynamics. Really can't wait to see Carol in future adventures

Was about to post the same. I liked it on my first viewing but I saw it again last night and I thought it was much better the second time.

Just saw it. Just OK which means I have no desire to watch again. Can't wait for Endgame though.

I really enjoyed it, on the same level as Doctor Strange in terms of the tiered Marvel movies.

Had a great time and would watch again

Finally managed to watch it, one of the weakest MCU films for sure, wasted Skrull potential and some questionable script choices.

Production values were great and de-aging cgi was astounding though.

Saw it today.

Can't for the life of me not understand how anybody could feel attacked by this movie without looking for little things that aren't big enough to complain about in the first place.

Must say i really enjoyed this movie and Brie did a fine job.

Wasn't the best mcu movie evar but a solid 8/10 for me personally. Will definitely watch it again.

I saw it a second time yesterday. I'm still a fan of it. Some weak spots were more noticeable, but I was satisfied. Brie and Carol is awesome. Jude Law is still the weak link I think, but that might be more a case of him not actually getting all that much presence in the movie.

Solid standalone film as well as a prequel to the MCU.

Really enjoyed piecing together the amnesia elements, it put a twist on an otherwise linear origin story formula.

Just saw it. Didn't like it too much. Some good things but overall it is one of the weakest MCU movies in my opinion. Some stupid retcons too. I have hope that the Russos can turn Carol into a better character.

Just got out about 30 min ago. I have to agree with the general consensus that it's middle to bottom tier MCU. Didn't hate it at all. Enjoyed Brie's performance. It was just so... average. Saw the twists coming. Loved Sam J as usual. Just felt the story was kinda boring

My wife and I saw it earlier tonight. With both liked it, but didn't love it. Just a middle of the pack comic book movie.

Just saw it and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe because I went in with lowered expectations after reading reactions (not talking about the hate from the man-babies, just that the hype didn't seem so huge). The start was a bit messy, but the rhythm started to work better after a while. The twist was decently done, not too over the top and it made sense. Nice characters and chemistry, good humour and a it gave me a generally warm feeling. Some of the editing and continuity seemed a bit weird in places though, I kept losing track of what was where in the rooms, especially in the action scenes.

Really enjoyed it, glad Brie had more personality than her trailers showed. Not in my top tier, but in a solid position in the 'next' tier

7.5/8.0 out of 10

Just what I needed after this week's horror terrorist attack in my country. A superhero movie to help me believe in the good in people.

The fights could have been better. They were jumpy and shot way too close. Also they establish this elite squad each with their own specialist tools and then barely do anything with them.

Everyone told me I had to see this before Endgame and my kids and I walked out of the theater looking at each othere saying, we could have totally been fine skipping this and watching Endgame.

Saw it again with my daughter this morning and it's actually much better the second time because I wasn't tripping up on the dialog, the twists, the prosthetics making the Skrulls mumble or the irritation at the trailers for practically laying out the
Galactic Mansplainer Heel Turn
.

The only part that got worse was the Rambeau farm stuff - which was worse because it's far too saccharine but this time there was
no Skrull exposition to think about as it played out. The ridiculousness of the space station full of cute orphans didn't age well tho...

And the
agent Coulson stuff is still highly problematic - especially when you realize that not only did agent Coulson let a traitor flee with a dangerous alien but that from Coulson's POV he was left behind at Blockbuster
like an overdue copy of Highlander 2.

But I actually had more fun this time and Brie's deal worked better on rewatch.

Still one of my bottom ten but out of Iron Man 2 and Thor 2 danger zone.

Wish the movie had a villain that was actually a challenge for her.
This was like if there was a Superman movie and the villains were the suicide squad

took a while to get going. it was...confusing at first. not confusing, more like disjointed - which is the intention but still it was...idk off.

better than expected, but it's because i went it with very low expectations. i liked it better than strange, ant-man, black panther.

Just saw it, better than I thought.

Going in my main concerns were the lead protagonist herself lacking charism but the trailers really didn't do her justice- She's a fun character to follow and her banter with the other characters were solid.

Because most of the people I tend to agree with on movies all had pretty middling-below average opinions on this one, I went in not expecting anything more than a serviceable romp, but I actually liked it a lot. I had no prior knowledge of the character other than her being way more powerful than other MCU characters. In fact all I really knew was that Brie Larson is apparently a Metroid fan, and wants to play Samus...which I would be 100% down with. In fact that bit near the start with her arm shackled pointed at that skrull's head really made it look like Samus's armcannon to me, which of course was fucking great. Did anyone else notice this or am I just crazy?

Carol is such a charming character and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of her in future movies.

Big points to the soundtrack, really crushed it on that mid-'90s vibe. And to the Samuel L Jackson de-aging CGI. That shit was incredible. No clue how they made it look so flawless.

Saw it today with my girlfriend. Really wanted to like it because I hate those incels who hated on the movie before it was released.

It was not a good movie though. It was just so boring the whole way through.

Do you think it suffers under a spotlight due to its position between two massively pivotal movies ending phase 3? We haven't had an origin for a while so people are not used to the slower plotting etc?

I am sure it has come up, but I just saw the movie...why would that Nirvana song play
inside her head during the mental supreme intelligence interrogation scene if she left earth in 1989?

Literally my brother whenever I try talking to him about the movie. He really does like to go on about continuity errors, butchering of the Skrulls and a certain someone that isn't at all like her comic book counterpart.

I think this is one of those movies guys just do not get. Which is a good thing. I imagine a fair few of the people who think Captain Marvel was just a boring movie also didn't get what all the fuss was about with Black Panther, either.

Marvel is actually sticking to their guns and making movies for different demographics.

I think it also 'suffers' for comic book fans by seeming to deviate with her character - but from what I've read about her character in the comics that seems like a good thing from a general cinema audience POV

Saw it yesterday. It was OK, though I thought a lot of the attempts to tie it into it into everything felt a little forced and introduced borderline plotholes. Thought the Skrull stuff was neat

Eh... the plot was pretty lame. Fury and Mendelsons characters were the best parts. Brie Larson, amazing talent (I feel like I have to write this in bold because if you criticize her, you're labeled an incel) was just there, I think she was easily showed up and had less to do than Fury and Mendelson. The rest of the movie was just something that... happened lol. Couldn't give two craps about the villain.

Why did Ronan show up at the end and was... spared? lol. Totally unnecessary lol
This is your friendly reminder that acting does not mean chewing the scenery or hamming it up.

Kind of forgettable, this one. Falls somewhere in the grey middle.

Larson was weak. And she can do better, I've seen her in Scott Pilgrim and Room. It was like she was somewhere else. Jackson turned up and played his usually funny role, he carried her. Jude Law was also very eh.

The 90's references were cool, even a glimpse of SF2 arcade. But No Doubt during a showdown? I think they went overboard there.

Just got out from seeing this and it was really amazing. Phase 3 has produced probably the best Marvel films.

My first thought when watching this movie is that it was excellently paced. My second thought was that they didn't really try to explain to the audience too much how the Skrulls worked, that the dialogue was written precisely so that it felt realistic when conveying information.
The whole cast was very good, Brie Larson was fantastic and Samuel Jackson was fabulous as always. I think I would have liked to see more of Jude Law's character, but oh well.

I definitely want to see more Captain Marvel though and can't wait for End Game. Hopefully the Russo Brothers don't change the character from this film. Although the 20-Year Gap could be fine for any continuity errors.

The soundtrack was such a great addition to the film. I loved when No Doubt came on.

Edit: Surprised that people are thinking this is low tier tbh. Like it's definitely above-average for me, even if it's not in my Top Five. Considering how many average films phase 1 and 2 had I am a bit skeptical of anybody's logic regarding them placing it low.

Saw this concept art on Reddit. It's so much better than long hair. She needs to cut it for the sequel!!!

I gotta admit that I was very surprised that I enjoyed this way more than I did. I thought the trailers were very stiff and everything fell flat, but the movie was definitely the opposite. While I would say the marketing team sort of failed in that aspect, clearly the film has made enough money to state otherwise.

This movie was amazingly hype! Saw it last night with my brother and I would rank it highly in the MCU scale. About the same rank as Black Panther (with a better villain and twist) and much better than the first 2 Thors, Iron Man 2 and 3, both Ant-Mans and the first Captain America. Definitely would see it again.

P.S. Love the chemistry between Danvers and Fury. You really feel like they've become good friends by the end of the film.

Shouldn't she technically be the first Avenger?
Cap still predates her by 50 years or so.

Speaking of, how did she get the callsign "Avenger"? Seeing that they're often ironic I'm going to guess that she played an elaborate prank on one of her squadron mates as revenge for some kind of slight.
