Really nice write up. I remember seeing video's and gifs of her stuff on tumblr and finding her to be super endearing. I am glad she is getting her time to shine. Album bumps.

How did Rap get so popular is my question

It like, just happened one day and I don't know why, and I'm okay with it

But it's weird considering the origins of the genre

Except white rappers. I still am iffy on all of them

Its weird to see all the undying love with the garbage she was saying back in January.

If you're talking about Cardi B and not the writer then it's more than that.

Not everybody can recite all 45 presidents in chronological order and knows a ton of details (including the birthdays of their spouses) for each.
yeah the writer seems easily if that excerpt is anything to go by.

if she can do that though, then that is damn impressive.

says in the profile that she could name all of them. That is impressive.

We remember. It's just in context, she was just saying whatever to defend her fiancé homophobia, and in the other instance making tongue in cheek (but still problematic) comments about bullying. Nobody canceled her over that.
It's honestly kind of frustrating how her defense of Offset became a bigger story than Offset's own comments in certain circles.

She also said if she was cheated on she would trick him into sleeping with a tranny when he's drunk. And then she blamed the LGBT community for not telling her that queer and tranny are words she can't say.

There's a couple areas of presidents that I'm fuzzy on. Like the ones after Jackson but before James Buchanan. Then there's a couple before McKinley I forget. Basically the 19th century is a struggle.

She’s said a lot of problematic things and was unapologetic when criticized for them. There’s a line on the new album where she summarizes these critiques as backlash from haters who want her to fail.

But I think it’s possible to enjoy her personality and what she represents in pop culture while also holding her accountable for these things.

Oh, definitely. It was just odd to see so much positivity towards her in here when that only happened a little over 2 months ago, especially when she never apologizes.

Hmmm...maybe. I mean Kanye and Jay Z always been the big 2 when I was a kid I guess.

I dunno, just seems odd to me it's as big as it is in it's current form.
It helps that the music is constantly evolving. More younger people are able to lead the way in what Hip Hop will be for the next couple of years.

could be that some people may not even know about whatever happened in January. I didn't know.

also funny seeing people trash her interests. it's like people expected her to be dumb as shit, and then when she has an actual interest in history and politics it's like "*scoff* any 3 year old knows about that stuff who cares"

...I dunno if I like that. I mean it's great for music and constantly has been, but I dunno, new music is almost shoegazing for rap?

I dunno, I sound like an old man now. It's an interesting rapid fire changing genre though

It's better this way. Keeps it fresh compared to Rock which often feels stagnant.

She’s happy to defend homophobic douchebags, so to be quite frank, she could know this weeks lottery numbers in advance and I wouldn’t care to listen to her. She’s just as much of an ass as the trash she defends.

Kicking a person around for extending themselves in any way is pretty shitty. Even if its low level from your context. We could have a Cardi B that says fuck knowledge and you'd have people shitting on her. Can't win.

This interview makes it sound like Cardi B is more qualified to be president than the person that was actually elected. What a world...

Pretty much, and then talks about educating her about the proper use of the word, cmon girl, get real.

People definitely expected her to be stupid which is...a whole other issue

Damn I legit did not know this. That's fucked up. Hmm.
But yeah, I do have to admit that it's weird. It's weird how some stuff can be overlooked by people if they really fuck with them hard enough. Do some people get blasted for fucked up shit they say based on how much their fan base cares? This is most likely true. I think that if people keep ignoring what she said, it makes it easier to keep liking her. I do enjoy her music and persona tho. I'm torn.

Again

Most people don't remember shit they learned in Middle/high school if ain't part of their work field because they have no reason to know
Pretty much. I didn't know it because frankly--I don't give a damn about little facts like that lol. Which is probably true for most people and why the writer didn't even know.

Good for Cardi B for having a firm grasp of 10th grade level Social Studies. If anything, this article shows just how low the bar has become for most of Americans.
Lmao, writing about it came off as some wack attempt at trying to impress the readers with cardi b's knowledge of some presidential facts

Anyways I'm happy for her success tho. There were a few good tracks on her album, and I think she's a much better artist than nicki minaj so to see her usurp her throne in hip hop is dope

You're joking right. Besides maybe the super early days it's always been big and white people have largely been the buyers of the biggest names.
