On Instagram Live yesterday, Cardi said "I had to go strip, I had to go, 'Oh yeah, you want to f*ck me? Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's go back to this hotel,' and I drugged n***as up, and I robbed them. That’s what I used to do."

Shortly after, the hashtag #survivingcardib (a reference to Surviving R.Kelly) was trending on Twitter.

I'd imagine that's probably a risk you should take under consideration when you hire escorts.

you mean a rapper would just go out there and publicly admit to committing crimes?

Welcome to lower-class (the hood) living America. Robbing and drugging happens quite frequently when surrounding yourself with drug dealers/gangbangers and sex workers.

She was not a good person. Hopefully she’s changed.

Edit: it sounds like some of you are defending her? Maybe unintentionally? And no, it’s not cool when guys rap and talk about this either, unless it’s them showing remorse and guilt.

It’s bad, but is it any worse than male rappers doing it at gun point? Not defending her or anything.

I know this is supposed to be a braggadocio flex, but she should have kept that to herself. PR team better drop a fire ass apology tweet.

Not surprised she was a stripper. The guys she did it to can't say anything because they doing something illegal.

Nothing will happen, people don't care, Murder On My Mind blew up after Melly (allegedly) killed two people...

Yeah it's all bad. I was listening to 4L by 21 Savage and he was talking about the first time her shot someone. I always wonder how the victims feel when these rappers make it? Vince Staples posted something on his Instagram about how someone he once robbed now looks up to him. All of this shit is weird and wrong honestly.

I don't want to 'whatabout' this, but I hope the people upset with her are also upset with Dre, Cube, Snoop, etc. It just feels like the fellas are able to get away with this more than the ladies.

Personally, I'm not going to pass judgement. On the one hand I do think it kinda sucks to profit off/glamorize these types of incidents, but on the other talking about these situations introduce some of us to the realities of their world or where they came from (moreso in the songs than their instagram posts).

Not even defending. I’m just shocked to see that other people are shocked to see that a poor person who openly admits to to growing up in and around the criminal element might have committed crimes to make due.

Also, I may be wrong on this, but she doesn’t seem to be admitting sexual assault. She used a promise of a consensual (yet illegal) paid sex act to lure people into getting robbed.

Fucked up? Yes. But there’s no double standard at play.

These are the games we play when we go to a strip club and ask to fuck the dancers

On the spectrum of illegal shit that rappers have claimed they've done, this doesn't even register. It's only trending to try to drum up feelings of hypocrisy (oh so when a woman does it, it's ok, but when a man does it?!?!) and it'll be latched on to all this Jussie Smollet "black privilege" shit that the conservatives are doing right now.

Just chill out and listen to some of her music, imo.

Also, I don't think she was bragging. Notice she said, "survive". It doesn't sound like something she's proud of. Although, she could've just gotten a normal job or adjusted how she was living. So she really didn't have to rob anyone.

Drugging, robbing, shooting, etc...people, isn't ok no matter who you are.

None of them are an "excuse" for survival either. You can "survive" without doing any of those things.
