CD Projekt Has Surpassed Ubisoft to Become Europe's Most Valuable Video Game Company - Gameplay Mechanix

The CD Projekt Group — which includes The Witcher III: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red and digital distribution platform GOG — skyrocketed

The CD Projekt Group — which includes The Witcher III: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red and digital distribution platform GOG — skyrocketed again on Monday, officially surpassing Ubisoft to become the most valuable video game company in Europe.

At the time of this writing, Ubisoft is worth PLN 35,6 billion (€7,82 billion), while CDP's market value is estimated at PLN 36,5 billion (€8,01 billion). As a reminder, CDP is also the most valuable Polish company, with the country's second-biggest company PKO Bank Polski still struggling to recover from the economic damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Impressive for a company whose first E3 booth in 2005 looked like this. Expectations for Cyberpunk 2077 must be high.

oh wow thats surprising. love their games though. definitely one of the best developers out there and I've liked their output more than anything Ubisoft has put out in years. though they also have the benefit of putting out very few and focused projects as well.

Hm I'm surprised.

Games-wise Ubisoft obviously has the much bigger games. Is a lot of this to do with their storefront then?

Damn that's insane. And they're making what, 2 games at a time? God knows how many ubi has in the pipeline at once.

Stock market having high hopes for Cyberpunk 2077. If that fails the stock will crash.

I'll take a studio that (at least to some extent) promotes diversity over a studio with very problematic messaging any day of the week, but sure.

So much is riding on Cyberpunk. Damn. No matter how well it does, it probably won't live up to what the market expects, which could be Call of Duty or Minecraft or something lol

this is the group that includes GoG and a few other things I think
but yeah, the success of Witcher 3 and expectation for Cyberpunk must be a huge reason behind it

Do you guys realize that "expected" growth is factored in a company valuation on the market?

Company market value started increasing a lot after the release of The Witcher 3 which was the first massive mainstream breakthrough for the IP, the release of The Witcher Tv Shows which performed extremely well on Netflix and of course the hype behind CyberPunk 2077 which again is absolute huge.

The market has huge expectations for this company. It was in the top 50 companies to watch in 2020 on Bloomberg as well.

Well deserved, Ubi should take note that quality > quantity. Make fucking good games that aren't exploitative and people will p lay them.

Oh, and these are SINGLE PLAYER games.

Well deserved. I'll take CDPR quality over the Ubi-game™ + microtransactions/boosters formula any day of the week.

I also really like GOG (huge fan of classic games and no DRM).

Im...just... what...why...how...hach.

Yeah, gog is probably huge. And i asume the development was cheaper then with a lof of ubisoft studios...but still...how.
Do they invest less back? do people expect cyberpunk to be the mos sold game ever?

Does CD even own an IP? All of their games so far come from licensing other IPs.
CDP signed a deal pretty recently with The Witcher's author and they now have full exclusivity over The Witcher in terms of games. Not sure about Cyberpunk.
Yeah, I only know about The Witcher and I am just wondering how in the world CDprojekt is bigger and more valuable than Ubisoft considering how long Ubi has been in the business, the number of IPs they own (including all the million+ sellers over the years). lol. This is amazing. I'm happy for CDprojekt though.

CP2077 expectations are ridiculously high (reception, sales, engagement) - on par with a new GTA game. Pretty much everything rides on CP.

Oh, OK, it includes GOG and all. That makes a lot of sense then. When I read the title, I just thought of CD Projekt Red and couldn't believe it.

I love CDP but this is wrong on so many levels, how in the world can they be valued at +8bn?

That's pretty insane with only 3 released big games. Plus gwent snd thronebreaker.
