Doubt it. The Steam thing was probably caused by banks not allowing purchases in Russia.

They're probably talking about the transphobia and crunch. As for this is I want to say good on them but considering their location they have skin in this game it's not just "corporation doing good thing". They are doing the right thing do not get me wrong, but war in Ukraine has the potential to affect them in ways that it doesnt for a lot of us, it makes sense they are taking this stance.
I've said this elsewhere, but:
Sanctions set out by governments to directly impact the offending government/regime/etc, and those people in power, I totally get and support.
Stuff like this doesn't impact the government (nor likely the oligarchs) of Russia nor Belarus, and just further harms the Russian and Belarusian general populace. I'm not sure how this helps anything. That said, it is CDPR's choice on where they do business, anyway.

I remember reading comments on Reddit about gamers being upset by these kinds of decisions, we really are the most oppressed.
I love the people here who are pretending CDPR have done nothing the past to warrant people to boycott them.
Even if the financial sanctions mean it's almost impossible for someone to buy something on GOG from a Russian/Belarussian bank account, making this less of a financially painful move, it's still something to take a stand like this, not without reputational cost, and it's welcome. Others should follow suit.
My understanding is that, out of all the payment processing options currently provided to Steam users in Russia, the only one that currently works is PayPal, suggesting the block is further up the chain. Certainly, I know both Visa and Mastercard have announced they're no longer accepting payments in Russia. But yeah, I believe CD Projekt Red is the first platform holder (for a given value of "platform", although I would argue GOG would qualify) to officially announce a suspension of said platform in Russia.
I'm not a mod and I'm not policing what people can post here but... I think it is a bad look to dogpile someone for taking a potshot at CDPR, even if it is unrelated to this topic. What CDPR is doing here is a good thing (that others have done and hopefully more will do too), but this company has done a number of questionable things in the past and I don't see how doing something good now means that they're suddenly beyond reproach.
Speculating a bit, but accepting PayPal might just mean accepting money in a PayPal wallet? Certainly the sanctions are practically making it impossible for Russian/Belarussian consumers to buy things from the 'West' in general, so there's a defacto suspension until wallet funds dry up.
Or the fact that they're silent now after I posted my link to the staff post.

In no way do I defend CDPR when I say this but I think we should do one of two things....ban CDPR talk altogether or stop derailing threads about CDPR that have nothing to do with their well known past issues. Not allow talk about them and allow thread derail just because it's CDPR imo.
Nah. Let people talk about CDPR and let people express that whatever they do doesn't change their stance on them. Neither is doing harm to you. An individual can't derail a thread anyway, the derail came from the 10 or so people who jumped on them.

not to mention the ruble crashed so this is more than likely a shrewd business move rather than an act of solidarity
