For those out of the loop, Charles Zembillas is a veteran in the animation industry but he’s best known for designing the characters for the Crash and Spyro franchises.

Today, he posted this little tidbit on his personal art blog:
Hello Friends! Thought I'd share some recent developments with the Crash Bandicoot franchise. Got this from an excellent source. Been aware of the general progress for a while now. I'm told a deal is struck with Activision and another heavyweight and there's a new Crash project in the works. I have nothing to do with what's going on but I'm aware of the person behind it and he's a talented veteran of many projects in entertainment.

When I get a green light on disclosing more info I will. Or you may hear about it in a press release beforehand. Either way you'll like what's up.
To me it sounds like he’s alluding to a potential Crash animated series in the works which is not entirely out of the question. There have been rumors lingering about a Crash cartoon happening late last year. The way he refers to things such as “another heavyweight” and “a talented veteran of many projects in entertainment” seems to insinuate that it could quite possibly be just that.

What do you guys think?

An animated series, or another Crash game, spin-off or new project in general would be great! I am so happy for Crash’s return!!

Given what other rumor Zembillas posted about all the way back in 2015 (remember the Sony movie one?), not to mention his connections with the animation industry, I would definitely think it's about the rumored cartoon show that we've previously heard about back from late 2019.

A potential animated series sounds like a perfect fit for Crash considering his Warner Bros. inspiration. I’m honestly surprised that Universal never tried to kick off something like that after Warped.
If it is a cartoon, I hope it’s 2D.

Aww Charles Zembillas! He was one of my animation instructors when I attended Animation Academy in Burbank like... 20 years ago. I met Jason Rubin there as well.

its funny, we used Crash a lot in our studies...

Hoping this is the animation weve been hearing about!

Genndy Tartakovsky would be a good fit for a series, though i think he has a lot of projects currently in the works

I HOPE it's a cartoon. Crash has always been a perfect fit for the world of animation, so It's About Time!

Activision still owes pc gamers CTR so... maybe an announcement alongside enhanced next gen versions? That game should run at 60 fps at least.

As long as Crash is silent, I'd welcome a cartoon (his series always seemed like prime Saturday morning material)--but I do hope we eventually get a new game.

Here's hoping it isn't canned due to Crash 4 not meeting Activision's expectations.

Do we even know Activision’s expectations for Crash 4 are? Like, a lot of people on this forum seem to be assuming that Activision must be burned by Crash 4’s commercial performance, but you know what they say about assuming.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Mr. Zembillas seems to be implying that CB4 is considered successful and that that success has helped to push along this mystery Crash project.

It’s not gonna reach the milestone numbers of N. Sane (price for one). I don’t think anyone expected that to be fair, but to imply that it’s a mega bomb & that no one paid attention to it which was pretty much every post on this forum is pure hyperbole.

This place really is a bubble lol.
I feel like that big 10 million that was reported for N. Sane last year has definitely warped the expectations of some of Era's armchair analyst.
And of course it doesn't help that some people on this forum legitimately seem to hate the Crash Bandicoot IP and take any chance revel at thought of it failing, making the situation look more dire than it actually is.
It's more than likely that Activision's expectations are more in line with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled performance (5M+) than N. Sane's. Going off the fragmentary data we have it seems like CB4 has sold around 600k+ copies in october. If the holiday season helps it along and it proves to have some legs it's not hard to imagine that it'll be around 4 million maybe even 5M by late 2021 or spring of 2022.
