Hello all,

This is my first thread post and I wanted to start a discussion on something that I have always been interested in. Cheating, and Game Trainers.

I searched everywhere and I didn't really see a post about this, so I wanted to start one on what people think.

I sometimes on Single Player games ONLY. Full Stop, and nothing else. I do not exploit glitches in Multiplayer, I do not hack and I do not do things that can give me an advantage over a person.

So What I was wondering, since so many of you are gamers at heart, do you think it's ok to cheat at single player games? For example, there are programs out there can savegame you ps4 stuff and give you infinite health like let's say Days Gone, or trainers that can be activated and give you Infinite Health on Crackdown 3, or even Cheat Engine, etc. Do you think it's ok?

I've always wondered if there was any issues or specific rules on Steam that says "IDC if its a single player, no cheating message". I finished Crackdown the other day, and I wanted to jump around with modified values in single player that can take me up super high, but would that be against the Terms of Xbox, or would they not bother looking at me if there is no report?

Idk I'm only mentioning this to get your opinion on it, and wanted to have a nice convo on this, with different opinions. So hopefully no one attacks one another and this thread doesn't get closed. If I am not allowed to post something like this, I apologize, I just wanted to start an interesting conversation. I checked the rules, and hopefully, it's not against it lol.

Thanks!

Of course it's ok. I don't like to cheat, but it's just a personal preference, even though I did it here and there. I'll abuse the game systems all the time, though.

I use trainers all the time in single player games, especially older ones when I can't be arsed to unlock shit. Not really an issue, imo.

I remember Era shitting on some dude who played through the entirety of REmake2 with a trainer because he didn't want to deal with Mr. X

I mean if it's just single player that's your copy of the game and your instance of the game. You wanna cheat or break shit you do you.

You cheated not only the game, but yourself.

You didn't grow.
You didn't improve.
You took a shortcut and gained nothing.

You experienced a hollow victory.
Nothing was risked and nothing was gained.

It's sad that you don't know the difference.

Cheat codes used to be a regular part of single player games

It's fine just do whatever you find fun

As long as you aren't negatively impacting someone else, I think cheating to your hearts content is fine. Whatever makes you happy/have fun is what matters more than any sort of "developer intention", so long as you aren't reviewing said games anyway.

My little nephew loves cuphead PC, he's 5, so if I can give him a better experience with infinite HP to make him feel like a rockstar against its difficulty, so be it. But I wouldn't say, use it to make items appear to help 100% a Yakuza game.

It doesn't impact other players' experience, it's completely fine to cheat in solo game you bought with your money.

Play however you like if it is a single player game. Anyone who has an issue with trainers can fuck right off if it doesn't affect anyone else.

Let me be clear, if you cheat in a single player game you're not only cheating the game, you're cheating yourself out of satisfaction. You experienced a hollow victory, a complete waste of time.

Damn you, I was nearly done typing it up myself >:/

Creating cheats for a game can be more fun than the game itself! Cheat Engine can be fun if you are into that sort of thing!

It's fine but there are some cases where you are gonna affect someone's else experience just by playing SP.

I can't even count the amount of guys that I invaded in DS1 that had inf health or stamina and had to kick them into pits so they can die.

Don't go online with cheats people.

It's fine, unless you're going into a gray area like speed running records but one can argue whether a game is truly still single player when approached in that sense

After i beat a game i load up a trainer and go nuts, unlimited HP, unlimited Ammo, no reloading, etc these things can be fun in some of the more annoying areas of the game..

Single player is totally okay, however I make some small exceptions for multiplayer games in very rare cases. For instance with Monster Hunter World it's technically a mainly "multiplayer" experience despite being fully playable single player. I had played it for 300+ hours on PS4 before the PC release, but i wanted to play on PC, so I used a trainer to just match my profile on PC to my PS4 profile. But that's the only time I've ever done such a thing.

I've beaten so many thousands of games covering all genres it's kinda refreshing to break certain SP games on PC or skip grinds on PS4.

Yes, sometimes even the initial playthrough for games I enjoy that I'm not in love with.

The only people that would care about single player cheats are elitists or those that care to much about achievements. Like I decided I wanted to replay ghost master again but just edited in the games version of xp so I could teach my ghosts whatever moves I wanted from the start.

I wouldn't say it's the best way to play any video game, but far be it from me to tell other people how to play their own games. If it's single player do whatever you want.

If the time arrives where i feel something that doesn't affect me or others and doesn't trample anyone's liberties should be forbidden, please shoot me in the face.

Thanks.

Cheating in single player games is wrong. Companies charging you to use time savers is the correct way. Cheat codes has never been a part of gaming cultu... oh wait.

They are fine in single player games. They are a blessing for certain games. Trainers are the only way I'll play dead rising series for example. If I had to be restricted to their timers I would never even touch them.

It's perfectly fine. Not cheating in multi? Not fucking up a leaderboard? Go nuts.

If what you're doing isn't effecting anybody and it's a wholly single-player offline experience, you can do whatever the fuck you want with the game you paid money for. If it makes you enjoy the game more, do it. Who cares.

I'll never quite get the people who have an attitude of "Excuse me, you know that fun you're having? You're doing it wrong."

Once you realize lots of games simply waste your time with useless bloat, changing a simple value in cheat engine reminds you that your time is way more valuable than some virtual treadmill.

I pretty much only have experience poking through save files and memory through emulators, and I'd say they can be immensely helpful. Being able to create a code that toggles random encounters in old school RPG's actually makes many of them go from incredibly frustrating to potentially enjoyable.

That alongside things like turbo means you're saving lots of time and tweaking something to be less annoying. Not to mention poking around data is fun in itself too. Cool!

It's fine with singleplayer games and especially if you want to make things interesting. But when you try to use cheats for speedrunning or other deceptive purposes, that's a massive line crossed unless you mention it.

I used to use trainers for the early tomb raider games cause I was 7/8 when I first played them, and I was completely lost. When I was 15 I beat all the original PS1 tomb raider games without any trainers.

Of course it's totally ok.
I mostly use it to skip grinding in rpgs.
Love fighting super bosses, hate the long grinds that are often necessary.

People should do whatever they want. Only scummy shit companies like Ubisoft and their ilk want to sell you cheats/xp in single player games because "fuck you and give us all the money".

Long as you aren't doing it in a game that has competitive 1v1 or team vs team i don't really care. I gave myself like 1000 of those keys in Borderlands and any SP game with a carry limit i immediately give myself unlimited backpack space.

Do what you want with SP games. I wouldn't personally recommend cheating, especially on a first playthrough (unless it's to skip tedious stuff) but I don't care if someone does.

I don't really bother with it myself but seriously it doesn't harm anyone if people are cheating in a singleplayer game, so I don't see the issue with it. People spend their hard earned cash on these single player games and are allowed to have fun with it in whatever way they want.

SP game, what does it matter how we play it. First thing I do in a WRPG as mod out inventory limits/weight limits
