So an islamic student confronted Clinton for not being a real ally to the islamic people and she made her point and it's a valid one. Seems like the only reason this is a story is because journalists saw an opportunity to frame the situation as progressives being irrational idiots.
And to paint fucking Chelsea Clinton as a victim

How did Chelsea Clinton help influence a NeoNazi who hated her to commit mass murders by sending two or three mild tweets about Ilhan Omar.

Also, the woman is clearly a dumb edgelord for saying Israel has no right to exist.

But she'll probably grow out of it.
Nothing edgy about having intense dislike or hatred for an apartheid state

I hope she doesn't grow out of it

Please stop posting tweets from these random online lunatics who pretend to be in the struggle to be cool Socialists.

The idea that Clinton "incited" this is a delusion.

A lot of liberal Jews were genuinely uncomfortable with Omar saying that Israel was well liked because of money... She probably shouldn't say that.
You mean that faux outrage to protect Aipac’s interests?

Get out of here, GOP is both racists and antisemitists every day of the week, especially the moron in the Whitehouse, but the heat is only on Omar because she called out Isreal and the lobby.
Stop bringing up that bullshit smear campaign.

She signal boosted the smearing of Ilhan, which rubbed some people the wrong way. There's absolutely no direct links between Clinton and what happened in NZ, but I think the point the girl was trying to make is that even casual islamophobia can have a profound effect and it should be taken seriously.

That's not what she was saying though. The student was making the case that people like Chelsea Clinton used their soapboxes to call Omar antisemetic which feeds into the overall narrative that drives islamaphobia.

Not really a fan of Chelsea, but confronting her at a vigil is pretty gross. Then posting a link to her venmo makes me think she just wanted to make money. At the same time, I think the response to this girl has been over the top.

Literally no NeoNazi cares if some Muslims are Antisemitic, all NeoNazis are Antisemitic.

You could argue this with regard to decisions made by governments I guess (though again, Clinton sent like literally two tweets about it and is maybe not in the top 5000 most important people in US politics right now), but it had no influence whatsoever on this specific event.

Does Clinton saying Omar's words were anti-semitic (even if they weren't) automatically constitute an Islamophobic sentiment in an of itself? I know that a lot of the dogpiling Omar unfairly got were from closeted or less closeted Islamophobes, but is it fair to hold Clinton accountable for people taking her rebuke and filtering it through whatever Islamophobic worldview they may have already had?

I only saw one of Clinton's original tweets and I don't remember there being an Islamophobic sentiment embedded within it.

That's not what she was saying though. The student was making the case that people like Chelsea Clinton used their soapboxes to call Omar antisemetic which feeds into the overall narrative that drives islamaphobia.
But if Clinton's comments aren't inherently Islamophobic, what's the alternative? To not criticize Omar for something she genuinely disagreed with her on because bigots may utilize those comments to fuel their pre-existing Islamophobia?

I could've worded it better. What I mean to say is the people who are attacking the woman in Chelsea's defense.
Just please people

Like... don't wear campaign gear to vigils.

Or have your friends record you cutting a promo at a vigil.

It's pretty tasteless.

Shouldn't do it.
^^stuff like this just seems weird to me.

I'm not really even sure what the facts are anymore. People seem to be saying different things.

Confronted is an understatement. All Chelsea was doing was apologising for the pain she caused and she was viciously connected to being responsible for the horrific terrorist attack on Muslims. The video ended with both her arguer and someone else raising their voices harshly about "what does sorry mean." This wasn't a discussion, and this wasn't dialogue from those progressives. They wanted to score political points and get famous for it on twitter. And it worked.

These progressives were being irrational idiots. Dialogue about these issues is crucial, but this isn't it.

It's about Chelsea Clinton, why wouldn't the media cover this?

Israel in its current form? No.

You will never catch me defending an ethnostate actively carrying out a genocide.
Okay so China is 92% Han and has carried out a variety of genocides.

Should China as a country be wiped from the map.

Do we frequently see this opinion expressed.

Or do we just see "the Jewish country should be wiped from the map" expressed.

You could argue that Israel is a fake state that was arbitrarily created and has no real right to exist in terms of basic nature except that, spoilers, this is true of most countries in the world.

ERA: Brown woman just wants to make money. Chelsea Clinton is a public figure, this was not harassment this got somewhat heated. Chelsea tried to perpetuate the myth that Omar was being anti-Semitic

I'm not saying they were being rational, but again there is a greater context here. It seems kind of gross to try and dismiss their emotions as "scoring political points". Are you denying that they feel strongly about what's been happening recently?

She has every right to be upset. But the links she's making are tenuous at best. The Ilhan Omar situation has zero fuck all to do with the NZ terrorist attacks. That's not the rhetoric that the shooter and co. were influenced by. The point she's trying to make you would need two planes, a bus ride and a walk through the backwoods to get there.

I agree that Ilhan Omar has been treated poorly by both colleagues and the media. There is most likely some Islamophobia in there as well. But the diet racism on display is not what white nationalists and white supremacists are feeding from.

I watched the video in the OP and it seems to cut off fairly soon. I dunno if there was more exchange going on afterwards. But it's good she was able to get her frustrations out and that CC let her do so. I wouldn't necessarily call it a harassment, but maybe a bit in poor taste for the time/place. But I'm not going to police someone who is clearly frustrated and fed up on their behavior. She saw her opportunity and she went for it.

Not keen on the donation begging afterwards. I hope the reports of it being a fake account are true. It would definitely sour me on the situation unless those donations are going for a good charity, maybe even one related to the NZ mosques and Muslim community.

Edit: The age thing, at 20 yeah you are a young person but you are also an adult and thus responsible for your actions. Not personally judging her harshly for reasons stated above. And she herself does not deserve online harassment and what that entails. Criticism fine; discourse about what she's said, okay, harassment and hate speech absolutely not. That goes for someone of any age.

....

I don't think you understand why the phrase "right to exist" is used in the Israel-Palesine conflict

Do you think that Palestine should be wiped off the map?
The two state system has proven to be an utter failure as Israel has made it clear time and time again that they do no recognize the rights of Palestinians to live. If Israel continues to exist as it is then Palestine and it's people will be no more.

A couple of tweets about how she thought some statements were anti-semitic leading to someone claiming she helped murder 49 people is a little much.

Like if I tweet "the minimum wage should be raised" and then a communist blows up a building in Brazil killing 50 people (I'm in the US for context)... Should I be yelled if I go to that vigil.

your analogy completely glosses over the most important fact in this story i.e. islamophobia being signal boosted then terrorist attacks hurting muslims.

How is this not scoring political points? They berated a former child of a US president on camera as some kind of "gotcha" who they wanted to retaliate for Chelsea's reaction to Omar - I seriously doubt they thought nobody would pay attention to this getting on the web. I don't deny their feelings were genuine, but their motives are definitely in doubt with how it got out there. Feeling strongly is not an excuse to humiliate someone on camera, particularly when on camera all she's doing is apologising to them.

Wow.

Where's your empathy for other people? You're right that Muslim's deserve to be respected and not to be hounded by Islamophobia, however, when it comes to methods of achieving that you're ok with harassment - of someone who apologising, anyways. Like, what's the end game here? Clearly her apologising wasn't good enough, what did you want to do to get your approval? How is these tactics helping relations between the Muslim community and other communities in the US?

What does Chelsea Clinton even do or say.

Meghan McCain is on five days a week.

Clinton was invited to a vigil and didn't even say anything here.
That's exactly my point Chelsea and Meghan do absolutely nothing of worth and yet their white girl tears are enough for every Democrat to throw one of their most promising new members under the bus with a bullshit bill. These two are proof that we should have an estate tax that's 400% and only applies to the children of politicians

So when did she say that?
An entire smear campaign was just unleashed against her and this is the first I hear of it.
It was on her now deleted Instagram.

But she's really young so I don't care that much... But I think she's a super dumb edgelord right now.

Did you misread my post accidentally or on purpose.

Where does Chelsea Clinton try to get in the news.

She sent like two tweets about Ilhan Omar... She was barely involved in the controversy at all.

The girl was being dumb, but apparently people are sending her death threats now. People need to chill.

And OT but some of these Chelsea stans are so OTT.

Again, this all just sounds like "civility". If BLM were at a vigil and called out a famous figure, would you be saying the same things? It seems weird to get so stuck on someone's methods. Saying things like they are "scoring political points" or doing a "gotcha" is just smearing them.

Clinton incited Islamophobic harassment against Omar. She contributed to the hateful culture against Islamic people, whether she wants to admit it or not.

But this thread is siding with the people sending death threats to the student, who was in a state of grief. Just lovely. Even some 8chan-esque "SHE DID IT FOR THE MONEY" posts. Even some internet detective Instagram hunts.

When Fox News and Chelsea Clinton are in agreement in perpetuating the myth that Omar is Anti Semitic you lost my sympathy. The Islamic faith is under attack by the far right and our so called allies lately. And now with this white nationalist murderer targeting muslims... well i can understand why this woman of islamic faith would be upset. She's wrong to blame Chelsea Clinton, but i certainly can empathize with her and give her a break. Oh and now that shes getting death threats where is the defense for her?

Yeah and you're right, Clinton's comments did not have a direct effect on the murders. What the student was trying to express was that she thinks Clinton, and by extension everyone piled on Omar (purpously or not) stoking islamaphobia around her, is not a real ally to the islamic people and it made her angry seeing Clinton at that vigil.

But if Clinton's comments aren't inherently Islamophobic, what's the alternative? To not criticize Omar for something she genuinely disagreed with her on because bigots may utilize those comments to fuel their pre-existing Islamophobia?
Yes, don't call Islamic politicians antisemetic unless they're really being antisemetic. We don't live in a fucking vaccum. This fake outrage over Omar's tweets has put her life in danger.

Damn how will Chelsea Clinton survive being called out on spreading a false narrative about Omar being antisemetic. Obviously the media must protect her by dragging an angry, grieving islamic woman in public.

This thread is 80% me and people yelling at me that Chelsea Clinton incited Islamophobia by sending two tweets when most of the most violent and vulgar harassment was from people who have literally never listened to Chelsea Clinton in their lives. Neither me or the group yelling at me support death threats to her as that's really bad.

Nice, you edited out the part where I said that looking into personal details such as deleted instagrams was morally wrong. You are not helping your case that you aren't harassing here.
