Chris Rock, Ricky Gervais and Louis CK casually using the N word. Seinfield abstains. (Clip from 2011)

I'm just directing it at "people". I'm not making presumptions about people's races so It's just as much my "place" to respond to people as it is yours.
Just "people" huh? Do you think it's non-black people who have issue with Rock allowing two white guys to say nigger repeatedly? You know damn well it was directed at black people and that is what I was responding to. If the people you are responding to are black and they are discussing nigger and its use, it is absolutely not your black. You're not black you do not get to be a part of the discussion.
Lanes exist for a reason, stay in yours.
You're also the only person who has replied to me a dozen times over 3 hours explaining just how much you don't care about half of my post so who's upset?
When did write that I speak for all black people? If you have issue with me respond to your nonsense you're more than welcome to stop responding. Better yet, place me on ignore. Also, me responding yo your idiocy doesn't mean I am upset.

Yeah, just people. FOH with your projections. I was responding to the posts in the thread. I don't bother cataloguing everyone's race so no, I absolutely wasn't directing anything at "black people". Keep that shit.

If that's what your non-stop perseveration about this is based on, sorry to tell you that you've been wasting your time.

Step back and apply some critical thought here mate. You've been nibbling away for hours because I had the nerve to suggest that Chris Rock - a black man - has the right to determine for himself how he feels about white people saying the n-word in his presence.

That's what you're super determined to spend all this time calling out here? Something that I'm not even wrong about, but you just don't like the fact I said it because of my race? That's "idiocy" to you? Really?

Who is voicing their displeasure with what Rock allowed in the video. You were absolutely attempting to dismiss it, which is absolutely not your place. I’m not calling anything out I’m responding to your posts if that’s an issue you can cease responding to me. No one is forcing you to do a damn thing and this whole “my race” nonsense isn’t fooling anyone. If you’re not black don’t try to gatekeeper how black people respond to what Rock allowed. Stay the fuck in your lane.

I've had seen this 'documentary' back when it was released a couple of times. Honestly it wasn't that shocking at the time, but that shows how much the times have changed. I'm also European so the word isn't that controversial here.

Louie sure used it a lot though, but I think it's fine for Ricky to use it once out of context, especially since he's also European.

Being "European" isn't a licence to say the word, even once. Ricky is English and he knows fine what the word means, and what it means to black Americans in particular. There wasn't even a joke there - he was just delighted with himself saying a forbidden word, like a naughty schoolboy.

The "they're from a different country/culture" only serves as an excuse when you're talking about an accidental use of a word by someone ignorant of the history and meaning. When you're talking about two countries with closely shared history, and closely shared culture, then... na, not going to work.

What are you talking about?

I'm from England, like Ricky Gervais, the word is incredibly taboo - you can tell because he couldn't wait to say it.

Like am I supposed to know if those people are black or not because I genuinely dont.

I'm not dismissing it, I'm saying it surprised me that people were focussing more on that than Gervais and Louis. Again that's like the 7th time I've explained that yet you're still peddling this "dismissing black people" trash.

In what way do you think I'm trying to "fool" anyone?

Your issue with what I said is solely based on my race, and your misinterpretation of what I actually said. I don't have an "issue" with that. I'm just explaining why you've got it wrong.

Nor am I trying to gatekeeping how black people respond so calm down with this "stay in your lane" rubbish. You're literally getting mad because I said Chris Rock - a black man - is within his rights to respond to the n-word the way he so chooses.

Pretty much - he was on the edge of his seat the moment CK said it and couldn't wait to join in. Mind you, Ricky has always been like that, the wee kid desperate to join in with the big boys doing naughty things.

Why didn’t you quote those particular posts? You went back and searched the thread for people questioning Rock after I said you were dismissing black people, stop bullshitting.
I am not angry at all, I have no issue responding to your posts, not have I whined about you responding to me, unlike yourself. So as I stated earlier, you’re more than welcome to stop responding.
If you’re not black then yes I have issue with you trying to dismiss black people and who they react to Chris Rock not checking white people saying nigger. That’s seems to be what you’re upset about here, that I’m not respecting your wonderful opinion.

I went back to page 1 and chose the first 5 posts of the thread questioning Rock, in order. I had read those posts in the minute or so before I replied.

Like what the fuck are you even doing right now...

What I said, is not up for debate. Why are you continuing to suggest I'm dismissing black people when I'm doing no such thing?

Your entire line of argument here is a whine about me responding to the thread in the first place. Literally. "Stay in your lane" remember?

So we're cool with this now but when Gunn can't make my Marvel movie we have a problem with digging up irrelevant shit out of context from years ago?
I think I hate the internet
Maybe if Guardians 2 wasnt shit.

"Make my marvel movie" FOH.

There was a GAF thread made when this special came out and its weird that more people are outraged in this thread than the old one.
It's almost as if people didn't care about this stuff then and are overcompensating now to make it seem like they always called this stuff out.

This is an old video. Louie CK has routines using the word, he thinks he's allowed to because of where he grew up. Would Chris Rock not use the word "casually" nowadays? And Ricky Gervais is being Ricky Gervais, I like how Seinfeld pointed out he used the word and he's like "but, but, they said it..."

I think it's unfair to point out Chris Rock here but is there a more contemporary push to stop black celebrities saying it?

I went back because you directly asked me who I was responding to so I went back and grabbed the several posts which said the thing.... that I was responding to in my initial post.

You're confusing yourself right here. Why don't you tell me who you think I was responding to on this message board if not the posters who said the things I addressed directly in my post?

Follow the bouncing ball. This is exactly what happened and it's utterly bizarre that you keep trying to insist that I'm gatekeeping black people's reactions because I suggested that a black person is within his rights to react however he likes.

That's completely nonsensical. I literally - literally - said the direct opposite of what you're suggesting.

err more like the opposite surely?
How would English people know about things like the Puritans, the American Revolution, and the atlantic slave trade? If Americans saw a golliwog, would they even know what it was? Nope, can't see how an Englishman like Ricky Gervais would understand this.

Seriously, the balls it takes for someone to pull the European card here.

You think I was responding to the single tweet in the OP? Why is that so much more palatable to you then believing I was responding to multiple posts - in this thread - shitting on Rock. I asked why Rock was catching heat.... in a thread full of people throwing heat at him. Its just. That. Simple.

And whether you believe me or not is irrelevant as what I meant is not up for debate. You're still not clear on how calling out the white dudes and supporting a black man equates to "dismissing black people".

I mean, that's 250 years ago. Hardly a blink to British history but that 250 years comprises about 2/3rds of US history. (Not that I think it prevents you from being able to have an opinion regardless... Just making an observation.)

I get your point but big parts of history education in schools over here are the slave trade and the civil rights movement, at least they are here in Scotland anyway. We got taught how big a part in it we had to play and the horrible shit it led to

You directly asked me who I was responding to so I simply went back to page 1 and rattled off multiple posts in order who said the exact thing I was talking about. I didn't "search" for anything. I answered your question and now you're using that answer as some kind of gotcha which is pure bad faith.

There are dozens of posts in the thread critical of Rock. Given that;

1. Why would I quote each and every one of them across multiple pages instead of simply replying to the prevailing sentiment in the thread?
2. Why is the above so unbelievable to you?

Again, I asked why Rock was catching heat in a thread full of people throwing heat at him. It's just. That. Simple.

I didn’t ask you to post who you claimed your post was referring to. The “who is voicing their displeasure” wasn’t asking you to go and search for posts, that was in response to you claiming you were just responding to people and you didn’t know anyone’s race. I was referring to all the black people who voicing their disappointment on social media, you know like the tweet in the OP. You do have poor reading comprehension.

I haven't read anything about this on social media apart from the single tweet in the OP.

I'm on a message board, in a thread full of people expressing a particular sentiment. I responded directly to that sentiment.

You said, "who is voicing their displeasure" so I answered with a handful of posts doing exactly that.

Why is this so difficult for you to fathom? And you're the one talking about comprehension?

Mate I'm simply trying to explain to you that you've misinterpreted what I said. I criticised the white guys saying the n-word, I supported the black dude who was actually there, and you're fixated on calling out my "idiocy".

It's bizarre.

Reread that post, what were we discussing?
You claiming that you didn’t know the race of the people who you were referring to and claiming it wasn’t black people and I asked you who was having issue with this not who you were referring to. You have poor reading comprehension.

I think you’re full of shit. The only thing in the OP is a tweet from a black person and you quote none of the posts that you claim that you were referring to so no I’ll never believe you weren’t trying to dismiss the black people being critical of Rock.

I’ll ask again, if what I think you’re doing is irrelevant, why are you trying so hard to convince me? Your responses are pointless.

The people "having an issue with this" were the people who posted in the thread that they have an issue with this and they, in turn, were the people I mentioned when you asked me the question. I didn't say it "wasn't black people", I said I didn't know the races of the people who had an issue with Rock. My reply wasn't directed at one race or another. I simply don't know the races of the people who made those replies.

I'm sorry but my comprehension of your question is faultless.

The thread was 3 pages long by the time I read it. I generally don't just jump into threads and respond to the OP alone. Do you? Why would I quote each and every post I was responding to?

Are you suggesting that the prevailing sentiment in the thread was something other than what I said?

I’ll ask again, if what I think you’re doing is irrelevant, why are you trying so hard to convince me? Your responses are pointless.
You've misinterpreted my posts and continue to suggest that I "dismissed black people". Why is it pointless to correct that misinterpretation if you keep peddling it and continue to engage me and ask me questions as you do it?

The only question I’ve continued to ask you for the last couple of posts is who you’re trying to convince here. I’ve stated how I feel about what you posted and how you scrambled to change up when I asked about you dismissing how black people feel. I haven’t added anything else, it has been consistent yet you continue as if what you say is going to change it.

What do you think I've "changed up"? I've been completely consistent but you keep throwing out nonsense like that.

You still yet to explain how calling out the white guys saying the n-word, and supporting the black person who was there, is dismissing black people.

Don't forget, I posted my actual opinion on the story and the replies to it in this thread. All you did - and continue to do hours later - is keep replying to someone who's opinion you decree as irrelevant. There are people in here doing the whole "it's different in Europe" routine yet you're perseverating over someone agreeing that white people saying the n-word is a bad thing worth criticising.
