He's fine, the character is just written poorly.

I liked Spectre just fine but even I thought Blofeld was ill-conceived.

That said, as long as he's there, may as well make use of him if Fukunaga has a good idea for him.

Depends if Fukunaga has any say in the story. Isn't it the same old writers again. A good director doesn't really make or break a Bond film.

Christolph Waltz isn't the problem, it was the piss poor use of Blofield that was the issue.

Oh, this is awesome!

I seriously, seriously dont understand these responses. Yes, Spectre wasnt well written so Blofeld wasnt a very good villian.

But is anyone here seriously doubting Walz' acting chops? Given the right Material he would be the perfect Bond Villian. That fact that he was wasted like that in Spectre should be all the more reason to want him get another shot.

Scott Z Burns, Phoebe Waller Bridge, and Fukunaga himself have written it this time. Purvis and Wade wrote the first draft I think, but those guys are always involved... when the same guys write Die Another Day and Casino Royale, I don't know how good or bad they actually are. I think their role is more to lay out the skeleton and then others come on for rewrites that make it better or worse.

Spectre was a low bar for this 007 timeline but I don't think it's Waltz's fault. Hopefully the film is leagues better than Spectre. It's the one film in the series I refuse to buy.
QoS at least had a great ending scene. One of my absolute favorite of any bond film come to think about it.
And an explosive car chase intro.
Spectre was worse than Die Another Day. Come at me.
But Die another Day had that amazing little mermaid actress though

oh so he lived, never watched the movie always heard is was shit.

It's pretty bad. Turns out Blofeld was Bond's foster brother who had daddy issues and dedicated his life to pulling the strings behind all the bad things that happened to Bond. He also lounges around in loafers, has a fairly quiet and relaxed demeanour and is completely and utterly unthreatening.

This is only good if they use Shatterhand/the Garden of Death from "You Only Live Twice" novel.

Quantum only sucked because it followed Royale. On its own, it is nowhere near the worst. Plus, I liked the closure of his grieving arc. And leaving someone in a desert with a can of motor oil is hard as fuck.
Nah, even on its own it's a hot mess. The script, the cinematography, editing, music, it's all terrible. It's such a waste of an opportunity to make such an amazing duology. But noooooooooooooooo...

I agree. Quantum seemed like a pretty average bond flick to me, which made it look bad because it was the follow up to one of the best ones. Spectre on the other hand was atrocious lol.

I guess this makes sense if the movie is supposed to wrap up Craig's run as Bond.

Good luck to the writers though.

If people were excited the first time and let down, why would you immediately expect them to get excited about the same thing again.

I would genuinely love it if he's there for an old-school "Stop Blofield" pre-title sequence, before the movie then jumps forward in time and never uses him again for the rest.

I like Waltz, so I'm going to remain hopeful that they either go somewhere interesting with the character... or go full Never Say Never Again on his ass.

Anybody else hoping for more silly spectacle once they reboot this? If not Die Another Day or Moonraker levels of silly, maybe at least Goldfinger or GoldenEye. I miss my silly Bond.

People being to hard on Waltz. He's a great actor, but fucking nobody could have saved that material. The Bond series really needs some better writers. Baring SkyFall, all the modern Craig ones had really poor scripts, only occasionally saved by the actors.

I don't mind him returning if they actually let him be Blofeld, just drop and forget the weird soap opera stuff.

Why? Casting news isn't a spoiler and it's not like "Oberhauser" being actually Blofeld was this big secret in Spectre. Literally everyone called it.
I'm not on about him playing Blofeld, I'm on about Blofeld being in the film.
I see it the same way that you wouldn't say to someone that.......was that the end of the latest star wars trailer. Some people prefer to go into films without knowing everything that goi g to happen before they actually see it.

I'm fine with this. Give him another chance to knock it out if the park. The problem, at least to me, with his Blofeld was that he was too subdued. You don't hire Waltz not to be over the top. Sometimes hiring an over the top actor to give a more subdued performance works to great effect, think Walkin in The Dead Zone. Sometimes it does not. Let Blofeld be unhinged and I'd gladly give him another chance.
Bring back Bautista too! He was a bright spot in Spectre.

Waltz played him fine, the script was just a disservice to his acting ability. I'm sure everyone involved with that famous scene thought they were coming up with a nice tip of the hat to the old movies "villain tortures bond while monologuing" trope, but instead we ended up with the film breaking (maybe even series breaking) line with "I'm the author of all your pain" bit.

QoS car chase was dire. A bazillion cuts and Top Gear challenge.

Now that you mention it, Rami Malek could be Bond's kid from one of his many sexcapades. "You abandoned me, father!!"

Also, Q's university nemesis. We are being hacked, Q knows this code, it's him, who Bond says, the only one who can defeat me, at what, well it was this group project at University, now is not the time Q. Options? Your brother is smart but is in a secret prison, get the linen suit, it's hot.

From what I read he's only going to have a minor appearance. Someone visits him in prison to get his opinion on a the main baddie in movie. Think Silence of the Lamb

He was terrible in Spectre, but that's a script issue more than anything.

Waltz is awesome, there's plenty of ways this could end up being great.

I think Waltz was let down more by the script in Spectre, his performance was fine.

We also don't know how big of a role Blofeld will play. It could just be a "show up for a quick scene or two" kinda deal.

Yuck. I like Waltz but Spectre was terrible and that twist was trash.

I'm really ready for a new Bond. It's been downhill since CR.

Just don't even mention the brother stuff and give him some better material and it'll be fine. I hope they do the garden of death stuff from the book version of you only live twice.
