Press Release:
Originally created by legendary game designer Sid Meier, Civilization is a turn-based strategy game in which you attempt to build an empire to stand the test of time. Explore a new land, research technology, conquer your enemies, and go head-to-head with history's most renowned leaders as you attempt to build the greatest civilization the world has ever known.

And now on Nintendo Switch, the quest to victory in Civilization VI can take place wherever, whenever.

Civilization VI for Nintendo Switch includes the latest game updates and improvements and four pieces of additional content which adds four new civilizations, leaders, and scenarios:

•Vikings Scenario Pack
•Poland Civilization & Scenario Pack
•Australia Civilization & Scenario Pack
•Persia and Macedon Civilization & Scenario Pack

Features:
•PLAY YOUR WAY:
The path to victory is the one you determine. Become the most scientifically advanced civilization, dominate through sheer military power, or become the foremost destination for the cultural arts.

•THE WORLD'S GREATEST LEADERS: Play as one of 24 different leaders from various countries around the world and throughout history. Build an empire of lucrative trade routes with Cleopatra of Egypt, flex the military might of your legions with Trajan of Rome, or develop a powerhouse of culture with Hojo Tokimune of Japan. Each of the leaders can be played any way you prefer, with unique abilities, units, and infrastructure in their quest for victory.

•EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map. Settle in uncharted lands, improve your surroundings, build new districts, and see your cities – and your civilization – prosper.

•ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization's progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.

•DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.

•EXCITING AND UNIQUE SCENARIOS: Civilization VI for Nintendo Switch includes four playable scenarios, each with a different setting and style of gameplay inspired by history. Be part of the colonization of Australia in "Outback Tycoon," defend Poland from invaders in "Jadwiga's Legacy," choose a Viking leader to conquer Europe in "Vikings, Raiders, and Traders!", or conquer the known world in the "Conquests of Alexander."

•COOPERATIVE AND COMPETITIVE MULTIPLAYER: Up to 4 players can cooperate or compete for supremacy via a wireless LAN.

Civilization VI Switch FAQ:

September 2019 Update
Q: When is the expansion coming?
A: Both Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm will be released as a digital only expansion pass November 22,2019 for $50

Q: Any other updates?
A: team<->Switch cross-save was implemented in April, 2019 allowing games started on PC to be continued on Switch and Vice-versa. The addition of both existing expansions great expands support for this feature as players are no longer limited to vanilla Civ6 cross-saves.

Q: How about Hotseat?
A: 2K community rep have confirmed hotseat will be patched in in a future patch (back in July 2019). The assumption right now is it will arrive before or on Nov 22, 2019

Q: How about on-line multiplayer
A: In the same post confirming hotseat patch for Switch (back in July), the 2Krep noted on-line multiplayer is NOT coming to Switch. That said, a few months later, the PS4 blog post seems to confirm on-line multi-player is coming to that version. It's possible that's a PS4 specific feature, or we will get it eventually.

More updates as they come...

ORIGINAL FAQ
Q:Does this include Rise and Fall expansion?
A: No, it does not. Aspyr, the developer of both the Switch and iOS version has indicated they are working on it but hasn't announced anything

Q: Is this the full game?
A: Yes, all PC features, map sizes, civilizations (excluding Rise and Fall content) are supported on Switch

Q: What is the Switch version of Civilization VI?
A: The Switch version comes with the base Civ VI game version is listed on the Switch title screen as 1.0.2(167791). I had speculated earlier it may have been based on February 2018 patch. However, Based on the science per population still being 0.7 per pop (this was re balanced to 0.5 per population in February 2018 pre R&F) I believe the Switch build is based on the Fall 2017 release which included the launch of the Khmer and Indonesia Civs (which is available as a DLC)

This was the last major update to the base game before Rise and Fall's release, so it appears all the patches are in.

Q: What is actually included in the Switch version of Civilization VI?
A: The $59.99 Switch version comes with the base game ($59.99 when not on sale but can often be found on sale on PC), plus 4 DLC packs sold separately on PC and iOS. They are
  • Vikings Scenario Pack $4.99
  • Poland Civilization & Scenario Pack $4.99
  • Australia Civilization & Scenario Pack $4.99
  • Persia and Macedon Civilization & Scenario Pack $8.99
All prices are listed as USD. So the 4 free DLCs add up to around $24 and makes up for the base game being frequently on-sale on PC.

Q: What about Nubia, as well as Khmer and Indonesia DLCs?
A: This wasn't announced or hinted at previously, but the add on content page showed up on Nintendo.com and are now listed as DLCs on the eshop as well as on the eshop webstore.

Q: Are there differences between iOS and Switch versions?
A: iOS version is a 3 GB download, Switch is 5.2 GB. Switch version included fully animated in-engine 3D Models similar to the PC version for the various Civ leads. The iOS version only show still images of the leaders.

Q: Is there on-line multiplayer?
A: No, like the iOS version, there is no on-line multiplayer on Switch

Q: Is there hot-seat multiplayer mode?
A: No. Hot-seat was added to iOS with the iPhone release. This could be patched in later

Q: Is Christopher Tin's Sogno di Volare in the final game?
A: Yes. The original PC intro is also the official Switch intro. The paper mache trailer and custom soundtrack we saw in the September Nintendo Direct appear to have been custom made just for the direct. The game is identical to the PC version on the front end.

Q: How well does it run on X map Size, and Y Turn
A: This question comes up a lot, See IGN's 20 minute video showing the early game.
as well as video resources below. As more video of people playing on larger maps and into higher turn counts are available, I will update the links.

Special Notes:
  • Civilization VI Switch does not support Nintendo Online Cloud saves backup, however, in-game, players have the option to save to a cloud. To do so requires linking your Nintendo account to MY2K, 2K game's account system.
  • Nintendo will send a confirmation email when you link your Nintendo account to MY2K. Data shared is your birthdate.
  • Interestingly, your Switch cloud saves will show up on your PC cloud saves menu but trying to launch it on PC will crash the game. Cloud saves on PC do not show up on Switch. So the servers are shared but it appears the versions aren't compatible at this time.
  • As of 4/2/2019 Cross saves between Switch and now supported through 2K's own cloud saves servicc (2K account required)

How is the frame rate on this?

Solid, chugs a bit docked when moving quickly in the later half of the game with lots of stuff built up. I made sure to post lots of video resources for people to check out for themselves. Please check the OP post above.

I'll keep updating the video links as more video footage of the game running later in the game are uploaded.

How do I zoom out to the top-down view? I hate the isometric stuff they first introduced in 4.

I'm probably going to pick this up eventually since I don't have the specs to play the game on my laptop, but I really hope the expansion makes its way onto Switch.

The part of "good port" cannot be stressed enought

Good controls, looks good, the turns dont take long, the fps are steady.

Everything is fine so far, 270 turns here

I'm super into this atm, so purchase already worth it

I do wish there was the option of hotseat multiplayer and not just one involving multiple local Switches. I probably shouldn't expect that to be included in a future update either (but I secretly keep hoping anyway)

So no optional touch controls then, right? Not a big deal anyway, and it seems the port is great.

Hm contemplating getting this(put it on my wishlist at least) although I haven't played a civ since 2( well and the day game but that doesn't really count) sometimes it's fun to start things small, what's the smallest map size/ number of civilizations?

Nice OT.

I was so excited when this got announced. It's been many years since I've played the series. I remember playing the 1st game on the SNES. I was instantly hooked.

The Switch is the perfect console for this kind of game.

I bought the game today at Target, which they only received 3 copies, but the wife said I had to wait until Christmas to have it. Lol

It'll be well worth the wait though.

It's almost a miracle to me that such a CPU intensive game runs on a Switch. I thought it wouldn't be possible and they skipped PS4/Xbone for a reason.

Got the game today . Excited to play it . The last version of Civilization I played was Civ 2 years ago on PC . Well, I did play Civ Revolution but obviously that was a scaled back version

I admit I'm probably going to be terrible at this . The only strategy games I have played a bunch are the Koei ones like the Romance of 3 Kingdoms and Nobunaga's Ambition series .

Will play through the tutorial some tonight . Cool opening video and title screen music though . Lol

Switch ver built on the work done on iOS so Touch is supported. It works pretty great as a complement to buttons on handheld mode. sometimes you just want to poke something with your finger.

What's more surprising to me is the Switch specific controller options work great. Some things take a few more clicks to achieve compared to KB/mouse , but nothing too jarring.

Nice OP. How do you zoom in and out on the map? I figured out how to do it with the touch screen, but what button is it?

It's taking a little getting used to coming from 5, but I'm planning to put some more time in tomorrow.

I can't believe how nicely this runs so far on Switch. Been playing some scenarios and started a new game from scratch a while a go. Controls surprisingly well, doesn't take long to get used to.

I've played all Civs. Such a luxury to play the real thing on a handheld.

Ugh, I want to get this, but don't think I can afford to drop $60. Will wait for a sale.

Would love to get this to play on the bus, but the lack of R&F hurts, so used to playing the current version of the game on my PC that it will be hard to go back to an older version.

It'll come eventually if Aspyr has confirmed it is working on it. But expecting R&F in the base $60 release was never realistic.

That was a $30 expansion released less than a year ago.

I havnt played a Civ since the second one... I'm tempted I must say since it seems to have received good word.

It was weird to see Graem Boy, Phil Spencer and Cory Balrog gush about Civ 6 on the Switch on twitter :O

Does this have local multiplayer on a single Switch, ala you take a turn I take a turn? Would love to play with the wife (who I'm not allowed to backstab anymore since Civ 5...)

Derp: just saw no hot seat in the FAQ. Well, will get in the future if it does.
