Demeaning to the medium, its fans, and the artists who bring it to life.

As always.

Perpetuation of the meme of gamers as lonely nerds is harmful to the industry, as are these videos. One man's opinion.
And because your post so particularly annoyed me today here is a video of Cory Barlog (ya know... the "fragile and in need of defense" director of said game) goofing around, busting chops, and AGAIN having fun and enjoying the success of their hard work even though JOKES ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOO DEMEANING.

The ones dictating what they can play for the segment is often the company making them promote the game. So I'm assuming that's in Sony's court.
That's so bizarre because the embargo notes for God of War were literally almost a 1,000 words long (usually you get a date, time, and a brief outline), and they were VERY strict about not showing past certain points of the game in video segments for obvious reasons. It seems odd to me that they would already be okay with broadcasting that big of a spoiler on television.

LOL love conan.
And for the people who dont find this funny thats cool.. but its comedy is subjective and Conan aint' for everyone so calm down with your "this is demeaning to gamers" attitude and lighten up a little... its a 'joke' segment

I think those guide lines are just for early reviewers. the game has been out for 2 weeks

Eh, it was stupid and the guest was stupid. It was funny when it was just Conan being ignorant about it (hence the monicker “clueless gamer”) but now him and the guest is just mocking the entire thing. The segment isn’t even about the game anymore but more about the guest.
To make the problem worse, Hader is simply awful as a comedian.
He needs to stop breaking character and wasting people time.
I hate him so much in SNL.
And the stuff he laughed on SNL wasn't even funny in the first place so I don't know why he broke character.

He is basically Jimmy Fallon but 10x worse because at least Jimmy did it on purpose or on cue during funny moment while Hader did it unintentionally on unfunny segments that the audiences can't figure out why the hell did he just laugh for.

Gotta wonder if it's not SIE in charge of marketing the game to Clueless Gamer, a lot of the times film marketing send clips to these talk shows weirdly out of context, but then later on when you watch it it actually is important.

It's one thing to laugh at entertainment, but God of War is among the best the games industry has ever offered.

It's equivalent to MST3K-ing a screening of Last of the Mohicans or The Godfather - no one would mistake that for celebration or promotion, so I'm not sure why this passes for it, while shitty popcorn stars are treated as luminaries.

Games are more mainstream than ever, but popular media and opinion still treats them as toys instead of art. These videos exacerbate that problem.

This is equivalent to a strawman argument. He did not say that ALL jokes are demeaning. Just this specific one.

So is that spoiler really that big? Want to watch this, but haven't played the game yet.
If you don't want spoilers, don't watch it. If you want good comedy, don't watch it.

omg the segment is LITERALLY called CLUELESS gamer... its the point of its comedy. Be glad the vast majority of people who never played a video game in their life are getting exposed to god of war...

They didn't do this off the cuff.

I guarantee you Sony went to Conan and they paid for him to do this.

They knew what they were getting into with Conan. Most of the time he rags on the games. Sony and PR are happy, I wouldn't worry about what they said about the game. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

The spoiler was really unnecessary. They barely even say anything about what's happening anyway.

I don't think this shouldn't exist or anything, but the amount of people who will be spoiled for some really "meh" jokes... Definitely not worth it.

No doubt. I'm sure it's good for business title to title. But I personally feel the stereotype it perpetuates is harmful for mass acceptance of games as an art form.

And again, one man's opinion.

This was a very gracious and positive review of the game compared to what they did with Final Fantasy XV.

Conan destroyed that game.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about late night television (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in other shows where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in this business, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is that gamers, after hearing about this, is not going to want to support Conan, nor will they follow him on twitter. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Conan has alienated gamers with this move.

Conan, publicly apologize and announce that you won't demean gamers on Clueless Gamer or you can kiss your business goodbye.

This was amazing, I'm getting a PS4 Pro with God of War now. I wonder if there's any more God of War bundurus available... If not, hopefully they'll be a Spider-Man or Red Dead Redemption one this Fall.

How insecure must you be to take offense from this

Some of you really have to take a step back and reassess what's important in life, because it's not your identity as a "gamer"

I didn’t find it offensive. It just wasn’t funny. There have been much better Clueless Gamers.

Fucking Hell. One of the best games of all times and this "comedian" shits over it.
These people wouldn't understand the grace of a beautiful piece of art like God of War even if it hit them in the face. The "comedy" in mocking the work of so many people at SSM is just for people who can't fathom how gaming has become a better medium than literature.
When I clicked this thread and read "Clueless Gamer", I expected one more gaming essayist raising God of War's MC score to the so-deserved 95, but no. It's just a casual "comedian" making fun of something more important than his entire career.

/s

But seriously, though, featuring those celebrities was such a bad decision for the segment. Clueless Gamer was about Conan trying to tackle the gaming world as an outsider and showing publicity in a way that was familiar to gamers. Nowadays, it's just him and some random guy cracking jokes while we watch random parts of a previously recorded gaming session. It's so grating. I really miss just Conan and Aaron chilling and shilling. Even Snoop can play games like games on Twitch. Why not Conan?

This really made me laugh. Thank you for that. The Godfather and Last of The Mohicans?

Also, don’t tell anyone... shhhh... they are toys. Don’t be insecure about your hobby.

That was pretty good but I really wish they would just go back to Conan and Aaron. It just doesn’t work as well with the guests.

While I prefer some of the older segments when it was just Conan, I genuinely don’t care they’re “mocking” gamers or anything like that.

God of War is one of my favorite games ever made and I still found most of the jokes funny. Don’t take it so seriously.

Eh, it was the worst episode of the clueless gamer so far to me. I did not find any funny, and coverage is really bad overall.
