Coming into this thread, I was thinking that the 100k number was not that rare depending on the area and career. But $825 rent while making $100k is kind of out of this world.

Edit: The article opens that he started his own business. Way to bury the lede, OP.
Also, "Klee lives in a shared house with four roommates"

I'd like to see anywhere where a person pays $825/mo in rent while living in a place where $100k/yr jobs for 25 year olds exist.

(And apparently said 100k income 25 year olds don't have student loan debt either. Unless they're making 'donations' to Navient...)

I guess this is possible if you live with roommates and split internet + rent...

EDIT: Klee lives in a shared house with four roommates and one dog.

Ok that explains more

That has bullshit written all over it.

Where does he live that he doesn’t need a car? Can’t be a big metro area cause no way in hell they get a place for that kind of rent.

Anyone who has ever split rent looks at that 800/20 and immediately sees a 3/4 way split. Ain't rocket science.

Ok so that chart is INSANE, but if you read the article. its......actually worse.

Its saying he pays that in rent because he lives with 4 roommates.
and is on his parents cell phone plan, so thats low.
and doesnt need a car cause hes in the city and lives close to work
internet is low cause he splits it
etc etc.

Basically its saying "this is how you budget with zero loan debt and a huge support system"

completely dumb and helpful to no one. Gimme the budget for someone on their own 25 years old making 35k

It's mind bending how out of touch these people are with reality, in fact they shouldn't be working as journalists.

Wait, I'm reading the article. He went to Princeton but student loans aren't part of that pie?

I made 100k around that age and my spending was way higher, i barely saved any money.
I live in a kind of expensive city and the more you make, the more you spend as youre going to be surrounded by people that have money to spend too.

LOL I knew the article would be bullshit

Klee first started tutoring as a student at Princeton University, where he discovered that he could turn his understanding of standardized tests into a way to earn extra cash. "I've always loved teaching people," he says. "I coach jiu jitsu as a hobby, I love teaching friends … Tutoring was a chance to do teaching for serious."

After graduating from college in 2015, Klee moved to Singapore to work for a test-prep company. While the company provided a good starting point, Klee soon realized he didn't like his employer all that much. Still, he wanted to continue tutoring. "I really do love teaching," he says. "I never really loved school, but I love being on the other side of a classroom."

Cellphone, internet, and housecleaner should be a hundred each. Who hires a cleaner for 2 hours a month? 30 bucks might not even get you that.

"House Cleaner"? Does he have a maid service or something? Also, I'd love to pay $40 for cell service and $20 for internet. You can get away with $825 on rent by having a (or several) roommates.

I assume, without reading the article, this dude has several roommates all crammed into a small apartment.

This is off in every single way lmfao. Eating out and rent alone would take up half the damn pie lol

800 to rent would be nice

i made a good amount over $100k out of college and have no idea where the fuck i would've found a place i wanted to live for $800 in rent. maybe if i lived out in the boondocks with a roommate. totally doable but not desirable.

Yeah, I'm reading through it now. Four roommates is a lot. But yeah, no student loan debt, parents' cell phone plan, no need for a car, only occasional Lyfts... the list goes on for how unrealistic this is for most people.

It would not, but if this is a five-way split, that's 150 - which for a house that big, is probably pretty much just very basic bathroom cleaning/vacuuming/maybe bed linens, so what's the point? A house of any size, one time, in a smaller city, is $100+ for those basics.

Either way, smells like nonsense - or actually bad budgeting/use of funds.
