I was completely alone in the cinema when i watched Blade Runner 2049 in the early afternoon and it was glorious.

I watch films alone at times but man, when you're the only one in the theater, it's scary.

Jem was likely the few times I blew 5 bucks just to laugh my ass off and yell.

I also built up this habit when I had Moviepass. I also had the impression that it's weird and antisocial to do this before I went alone a couple times. It's dark in the theater. Other people don't care.

Oh, a "water is wet" article.

In 2008 a certain line of cinemas in Italy had a original language feature on Tuesday. Practically no one in Italy watches movies undubbed and those who do were already abandoning theaters then because of widespread bad behaviour from most spectators. So on a glorious Tuesday, I was alone in a 200+ seat theater watching The Dark Knight in English. A cinema attendant came in to check on me a couple times, probably to make sure I hadn't come to just masturbate to porn from my cellphone, LOL.

Who the hell thinks going to the movies alone is shameful? This society really put a stigma on being alone, huh?

I've been to the cinema several times on my own, first one was when I was about 22 to see dawn of the dead, then more recently to see Star Wars and James Bond films.

I see no problem with it at all, but my girlfriend? Jesus, she can't get her head around it and thinks it's a really odd thing to do.

Done it over a 100 times the past few years. I still go to movies with others from time to time, but schedule-wise it's just so great to be able to go whenever you want (along with the fact that you never have to discuss which movie you're gonna see etc).

If you think about it, people who thinks there should be a stigma for this is the same people who goes to the cinema as part of a social event. From that perspective, of course it doesn't make sense / it's weird to go alone to the cinema. For them watching a movie is the excuse to go out and do something that evening. Watching the film wasn't the point.

If you actually like cinema, well, the whole point is to watch the film, and if you go alone or with friends is much more secondary concern.

I've got an unlimited cinema card so I go every Saturday (other things permitting) I sometimes stay all day, I saw 3 things last weekend. It's my day away from the house as I look after my wife and it's the one full day I have to go and relax and I use it to go to the cinema.

Going to the movies early on a weekday when most people are at work/school is the best. Coming out of the theater and it being sunny still feels weird to me (in a good way).

One early-afternoon, i came back to my town on a metro bus straight from my commuter college. Instead of getting in my parked car and going home, as usual, I walked straight to the movie theater across the street. Backpack on and all, i strolled in, got a 5 dollar ticket for First Man and some popcorn. The theater was EMPTY. Not a person in sight. I sat in the middle row/seat and enjoyed the film. It was a great experience, would do it again.

Perhaps I'm just a sad fuck, but I quite enjoy going to to the cinema/theatre/restaurant alone. Then I read articles saying that it is supposed to be weird. I enjoy company as well mind, it's just both are fun

What's so guilty about it? If i wanna see a film, I'll go. No need to make plans with other people.

I would go to the movies all the time, except for the theater being on the other side of town.

Going to a movie by yourself after going to a restaurant by yourself is awesome.

I used to enjoy going alone to the Regal I was near when my ex-partner was on deployment and had the time. Didn't know anyone that well in the area as it was.

Now that I'm single and have a large social life, it's not as enjoyable alone. Probably some weird perspective shift due to the differing circumstances.

i almost never go to the theater with somone, most of the time it's alone! And since i'm in a small town, sometime there's only like 3 people in the room! And sometime i even had the whole theater for myself

Exactly this. I see around 70 movies theatricaly a year, so even if I wanted to see them all with friends, I would never convince them every time to come.

Maybe 5 movies a year I see with other people, usually tentpole movies my friends or my wife are going to see anyway.

And I have to say I actually prefer going alone. It's an hour or two for myself.

Used to do it all the time. Best way to see the movies you like. And it's normally easy to get a seat for one. Don't have to share the popcorn either!

Only done it once. To see Moon. It was fantastic and I was joined by three couples and 12 solo blokes like myself. I think we all really enjoyed it. I must do it again!

Hmmm...

I might try this now. Gonna watch Alita. I've been putting it off since my partner is busy.

I have one of these luxury cinemas about 10 minutes walk from me where you can raise your feet up and have tons of space, its really cheap and during day is quiet so I go there all the time on my days off alone. I'll see big event films like Marvel or Star Wars with others, or if my partner wanted to see something, but in general its far less hassle arranging times to go and I prefer the peace of a quieter cinema.

guilty pleasure? The fuck kinda cold take is this shit. I do that shit freely on the reg. Why the fuck do you need to go to a movie with someone when you just wanna concentrate on shit? This is a stupid fucking thing to be worried about. People in big cities don't have this problem

Wouldn't have seen Roma any other way.

It's a thing I do on Saturdays and Sundays when I'm hungover from the night before sometimes. Also leads to bad decisions, like watching Assassin's Creed.

never mind seizing the day - its more about going when you're less likely to have the movie ruined by other fuckers.

I started doing this after a friend told me she goes alone when she wants to unwind. it's great and I recommend going during lower traffic times.

1 ticket? Just 1 ticket?
Yes, only 1.

Its neither awesome nor awful. Kinda depends of the movie tbh. I always did both, in good company > alone > shit company

Going to a movie theater when you should be at work, now that my friends is the real goat experience.

I work right next to a theatre, so it's fucking awesome, especially with movie pass/a list. I generally watch half one day and the other half the next, but sometimes I'll just check my schedule and shits already done for the day and I'll just watch the whole thing.

I dunno, at this point I feel weird going to the movies without my girlfriend because it's something we love to do together. I went to see something with friends from college a few months ago and it didn't feel right. Especially now that I got a Sinemia subscription for the two of us for Valentine's day.
