I mean in theory it's possible he had a heart attack or something, but then they wouldn't have had a reason to cover it up and deny he died at all... so it's not bloody likely

So instead of just murdering him, they murdered him in the worse possible ways while demanding answers. Great.

This is worse then straight up murder, a single bullet to the brain is much less cruel then torture that leads to death.
