But the late 80s was the perfect time to start, since it was right out of Crisis on Infinite Earths, had reset continuity, and DC was firing on all cylinders with a renewed sense of creativity and stepping out of the normal bounds.Personally I was never a big DC fan until sometime after I got back into comics circa 2008. The universe and characters came off as somewhat impenetrable to me as a kid. Just because of how much backstory there already was, it seemed too daunting to try to get into. I wouldn't have known where to start.
Dude I was a child in the late 80's. I cared more about Ninja Turtles and Transformers toys than comics. But the late 80s was the perfect time to start, since it was right out of Crisis on Infinite Earths, had reset continuity, and DC was firing on all cylinders with a renewed sense of creativity and stepping out of the normal bounds.
I mean, I didn't get into comics until 2015. That doesn't matter. I can see now how amazing the late 80s was for them. Even reading them now, it has the best Green Arrow run, the best Suicide Squad run, and top tier The Question (I would say the best, but there aren't really any others to compare it to), JL, WW, Superman, etc.Dude I was a child in the late 80's. I'm just saying the fact that he wasn't into comics at the time doesn't matter, because the comics still exist.
Why was DC so insanely good in the late 80s?
-The Question by O'Neil/Cowan
-Suicide Squad by Ostrander
-Sandman by Gaiman
-Green Arrow by Grell
-Justice League International by Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire
-Batman Year One by Miller/Mazzucchelli
-Animal Man by Morrison
-Superman by Byrne/Stern
-Doom Patrol by Morrison/Case
-Wonder Woman by Perez
It's so crazy to me. Like, most of these runs were the best runs the character/team has ever had.
The real thing Larsen should probably be taking from the manga thing is a the 20-22 floppy isn't the only way forward.
Yeah but I don't think I could stomach 80's art.I'm just saying the fact that he wasn't into comics at the time doesn't matter, because the comics still exist.
Totally agree.Every time I think this place is decent. *sigh* Cancel comics, they were a mistake.
His crown jewel? Trouble.
Meanwhile, god Larsen just fuck off.
Even then he's not really wrong with his overall point. This person just takes it as Larsen talking trash about manga and gets defensive.how the fuck does this dipshit manage to fuck up the generally correct take of "adopting the Shonen Jump model wholesale would be bad for comics creatively and a total fucking disaster when it comes to labour issues in the industry" by making it about the specific format of shonen jump instead of the economics of it all?
10-issue staredowns like it's fucking DBZ up in here.we already complain about Bendis-style decompression can you just imagine if he was drawing things out the way most big Jump comics do?
Oh wow thats even worse than I imagined.
There were other stories about how bad that Jamas guy was with the X books around AoA also. Sounds like he was a real winner.
What even is 80s art?
Funny you say that. DBZ has a very fast pace in the manga ;)
I like how this tweet and all the people in the comments are ignoring the fact that he said "shonen jump" and not "manga" because there's a difference.
Comics shouldn't copy the Jump format, which has struggled in the west itself.
Yea I could be thinking of someone else. I just remember hearing horror stories about a certain editor around that time as well.I don't think Jemas was in Marvel around AoA.
What Ive read is that turned down no less than four or five pitches from Grant Morrison.
So with this IDW Transformers reboot, did they just wipe away all the chronology and restart from way back in the good ol' days?

That was it, thanks

also Bendis' action comics...lowkey slaps???
whats going on here
I buy it. Everyhting ive read of his DC work, I either enjoyed like Aciton, or just liked for the most part like Young Justice. Havent read anything I actually disliked, but ive been avoiding stuff like his Superman.
The interactions between Batman and Alfred are probably the best ones in years. Maybe Tomasi comes close, but Bendis' are just so much fun.Batman Universe is the most fun I've had with a Batman comic since Batman Inc. It has that same Brave and the Bold, bright colors, anything goes vibe
