I do want to add that I think Lucifer himself wasn't written to his full potential. It's clear Carey wanted Lucifer to be a Dream surrogate -- mysterious, powerful, more of a motivator for the story than a protagonist. But where Dream's powers, actions, and motivations were constantly being questioned and developed, Lucifer's are often lacking. Sandman was so heavily about Dream warring against himself, becoming more human. Lucifer seems opposite, with him starting as an interesting, humanized character after his interactions with Dream, only to be shown more and more to be the Will of God set free. He does things to service his plans. His plans are never given purpose outside of being his will. Where Sandman created deeply empathetic stories which brought Dream closer to us, Lucifer's stories feel like they're further creating detatchment between him and the reader. And while there may be value in that as an idea, it dulls the moment to moment experience.
I saw lucifer as the actual plot driver by the end of the series, and iirc there was quite some challenge to his beliefs or rather wish. I'm not sure what you view his main purpose or will is as my memory is quite hazy and I'm afraid of spoiling it, but I felt (based on my interpretation) that it's very human by the end of the day

Hello everyone, I haven't been here in a while. Mainly because I haven't been reading comics :( But now I'm reading IDW TMNT and loving it!

He's really not that negative lol

If your impression of him is just the tweets that get linked here you're going like a thin slice of him. He enjoys and praises things all the time.

And I thought wrestle era was a good community. What happened, Sage? Did you finally see the dude of them I've known all this time? 😂

Meh. When I first hear of you and it's because of your negativity and then I see your TL and a quick scroll through is negative...meh, I've seen enough. It's not enough to be right, he's got to get his dunk on. Look, my TL is critical enough. I'm good.

And I don't know what you mean. It was fine for a while, but wrestling in general has been down compared to last year and it's affected everyone. NJPW isn't what it was, AEW is disappointing people, RoH drawing record lows, Evolve is a joke now, and of course WWE remains trash. This leads to a growing negativity that's noticeable.

Anyone here play Greedfall? Curious if its worth the $30, or if I should wait for a better sale. Already have a ton of shit to play, just really like the look of the game.

If you have other stuff, I wouldn't bother. I got it at launch and loved it though, even if it's insanely janky and AA. The world is great and the setting is really pretty. Mission design is OK.

It isn't that he never posts anything positive, it's that there's a high volume of negative. I mean, he tweets a lot, so even if it was like 5% negativity, that would still be a lot of negativity.

The way I would describe it is that if he has a problem with anything, he'll say so every single time, and go into detail about why that is. And it's like...sometimes you gotta just let things go. Everything that's wrong doesn't need to be remarked upon.

Edit: The other things is that he will routinely buy/read comics he knows he isn't going to like, and then shits on them. That turns me off of wanting to follow a person immediately.

All of this, too.

List, but most importantly, which one will I have the strength to drop in 2020 ?

Batman #84 - This one is easy, only one more... but Cat/Bat will take its place down the line.
Green Lantern: Blackstars #2 - Ok, I'll trade wait the season 2. I'll drop it when blackstars end. But It's Grant Morrison, what are you doing ? You have to pull it, oh nooooo.
Harley Quinn #68 - Yeah, no, I don't want to be found dead under a pile of comics after the Shadow Council tracks me down. "His bookshelf finally collapsed on him, it was only a matter of time." will be printed on the newspapers. I don't even have a bookshelf! Harley stays.
Justice League #37 - Two more and I quit. Maybe I won't even pull the crisis. The mad lad.
Young Justice #11 - It sparkles joy, even Marie Kondo couldn't let this one go.

Excalibur #3 - There's too many X-Men, this one will have to go.
Marauders #3
X-Men #3

Die #10 - The only indie comic on the list and Stephanie Hans lives in my city. I even got the sweet surprise to found my #6 signed by her when I went to pick it up at the store. These evil indie creators, being friendly and neighbourly and defacing my comics.

Yeah, the big thing for me is "his main purpose" remains completely unexplored 35 issues in. I just latched onto the Will of God thing because of one bit of backstory in which they described Michael and Samael as the first two creations of god, Michael being the power of God and Samael being the will. Michael would provide the energy source and Samael would form it into God's creations. And being that Lucifer doesn't have much explanation for what he's doing, I just assumed that it was a continuation of that idea. His need to shape, his need to be free of God's rules for his nature.

Nearly done with the first hardcover. Only got the first 2 but I'm probably gonna order more soon, I'm gonna burn through these

I need to get on that. A few (yikes) years ago I read the Works set in preparation for IDW's books and only read a few. Maybe that's some good holiday reading.

Love this

Sad that she is stuck doing that Spider-man ego project

those are nipples

As someone that read X-Men Inferno earlier this year, I am shocked Nanny and Orphan Maker are making headlines in 2019.

Also big Omni day! Injustice and Annihilation!

I don't have the strength to ignore the annihilation omnibus

maybe I'll do my trades as a giveaway for the thread if I can think of an idea

I want DKIII's Absolute... but I think I might wait? November was already too spendy. And maybe I can get it used for even cheaper or on clearance down the line. I'd rather make sure I can get Absolute DK I + II first, anyway.

So Annihilation will be my get today. Could care less about Injustice.

r3make is the only game that matters in 2020

sorry, but it's true
Eh. I liked the RE2make but I kinda forgot about it after a few months. The fact it's getting GOTY noms is kinda weird to me. There was much better stuff that came out this year than REhash 2.
Capcom are good again.
Not until they make a new Power Stone or Tech Romancer game. I would even settle for a new Rival Schools at this point.

so I guess it's Havok and Psylocke overseeing a bunch of evil people

Ugh. Boring.

Hm, not quite my reading of it, but you're not super far off either. I read it quite long ago and don't much recall if there is a sudden shift by the second half or something, but I definitely had no doubt about what his main purpose was at the end and felt everything tied up rather nicely

Annihilation is going to be my last hardcover purchase until... March? Whenever they're reprinting the Uncanny X-Force Omnibus.

Which, thank God, because I've spent like $300 in the past two months on IST. That being said I should probably catch up on Golden Age Wonder Woman and grab that second Supergirl omnibus...

Yeah, definitely light comfort food reading. Can't really compare to the original Eastman & Laird comics but I do like their take on the origins here. Plus they're not rushing and they take time to develop the bond between Splinter and The Turtles and the other supporting characters. Nothing feels rushed.

There's a Annihilation reprint? I need to get that to complete the set.

I think I've lost my love of weekly comics. What if hardcovers and omnibus format was always superior?

Actual question: what do y'all like about omnibuses? I don't mean in the sense of digital vs. print, I mean omnibuses specifically.

Like, I have BKV's Runaways in three oversized HCs. But I wouldn't want all of those issues to be in a single HC. That just seems awkward and uncomfortable to read. It also seems like wear & tear would be greater over the years and decades, as the book's own mass works against it.

I feel obligated to get Annihilation even if I think the majority of DnA's cosmic run is overrated to outright weak (War of Kings). Annihilation, Conquest and Thanos Imperative are the best parts.

I love to get an entire run in a single book, even though reading smaller tpb's is more comfortable yeah. But for me omnibuses are mostly my preferred way of buying comics.

larger runs in a single book, thicc spine for maximum shelf porn, and I like the way they lay in regards to gutter loss or lack thereof

I don't buy them as much since I've gone digital, but I would absolutely buy a Gwenpool omnibus. I think the appeal is it's a nice way to collect an entire run, or a big portion of it in one book.

This. Big omnibus collections are also a pain. OHCs are perfect imo.

I think 18 issues-20 is max comfort for an omnibus. See Supersons or Silver Surfer

Generally speaking the stuff I buy isn't collected in OHC format alone, and not often in a complete format. For Golden/Silver Age stuff, since the DC Archives and pre-Marvel Masterworks lines are dead, it's omnibus or tpb.

In my hands I prefer a big OHC or small omnibus (15-20 issues) but with those I worry they'll never complete them, or they won't won't include side content (like no Unworthy Thor in the Aaron Thor stuff), or they'll just end up way more expensive at the end, or they'll arbitrarily change spine designs halfway through...

It's a mix of things, I guess. I don't disagree that smaller oversized hardcovers are easier to read. Though they more often do have glued bindings, which sucks. They just take up a lot more shelf space than an omnibus, cost more in the long run, and are less reliably released. And I guess it's fair to say an omnibus looks better on the shelf, which I'll admit does matter to me.

I just counted. I have 151 marvel omnibuses. Just the marvel ones alone...

Ahsoka I love reading a contained run. I love reading OHC, probably more. But they just don't make as many of those as they used to. Reading an omni on the couch or in bed is no problem for me.

I like seeing my progress through an omnibus as big chunks of pages. I find that satisfying.
edit: And the way I pretty much have to read them at home, probably in bed, makes it different from all the other reading I do with a tablet on the bus to and from work.
Y'know. Light some candles and heft a great big omni on yer lap for an evening's reading~~~

Also, this is the superior of today's teaser trailers:

Trades are the superior format, I buy weeklies because I'm impatient and want my favorite series to survive. Been cutting down on stuff I'm not hurting to have and are stable-selling titles
And finding discussion on weeklies is much easier than that of trades. Speculating on the spot with friends per issue is pretty fun as well
