Cant believe Marvel/Disney is doing these shows for their streaming service, with the actual characters and actors from the Avengers films lol. WB/DC must just be shitting themselves at this point.

People are just not going to be able to pay for all these separate streaming services.
Netiehr will compete against things like Netflix, unless they reveal a bunch of international content, but Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel original content at a competitive price is a nice pitch lol.

I do wonder if this is where New Warriors will end up going though.

Yeah they should be shitting themselves over a Falcon/WS miniseries from the a writer of Empire lol

And a Scarlet Witch show, and a Loki show... Who cares who the writer is, these shows will do amazing on their own lol. You cant seriously think that this isnt going to do huge numbers, because of a writer?

New Warriors would be awesome. I hope this is where they are able to do a bunch of things they wouldnt have been able to do in the films

It is a dream scenario, and I'm shocked it's actually happening

Same. And im not even all that interested in a Loki or a Scarlet Witch show atm.

They are going to be able to appeal to the mainstream audience with these shows, while the DCU looks like something of a niche now. The only way they compete with these is if they were to have a Batman show with the actual actor playing the role. Or something to that degree. Which will never happen under WB's current leadership.

If they're gonna give bad shows to their treasured characters why not continue what they've been doing with Netflix?

So my Halloween comic book for the year was The Crow! (The special edition from 2011, with some new material.) Never read anything with him before, but I have seen the movie so I sort of knew what I was getting into.

It definitely feels like a part of that "late 80s, early 90s artsy comic" boom, though it's lacking in a lot of the artistry of stuff like Sandman. O'Barr was an amateur and it shows. It's "personal" in a way that's not necessarily a complement - like, in the way a diary is personal, or someone's poetry that they didn't really want you to read. The characters are shallow (particularly the bad guys, who are just varieties of "do drugs" and "do crimes" and "ethic stereotype"), the art is a mixed bag, the pacing is all over the place. It's obvious what he's trying to do but it doesn't quite come together.

I don't think it's particularly good, but it's a really unique, consistent, independent vision and I enjoyed the read. It feels, in a way, like something I could have written, or something a friend would give me to look over. That weird mix of approachable and completely inaccessible that independent work sometimes leans toward.

So what are you going to be doing in the meantime while you're busy not reading comics?

Legion Worlds by DnA finished. It was good. Some of the stories were great. Obviously not nearly as good as Legion Lost, but I wasn't expecting it to be, just by virtue of it being a bunch of disparate stories.

I finally caught up with Williamson's Flash. Honestly feels like we're going to get an 100+ issue run before he stops lol, there's at least like, 2-3 background things building, not including this new Force Quest stuff going on.

Also I hate these 5 seek months because it means I have to wait 3 weeks instead of 2 for more ASM.

I'm still reading Lone Wolf and Cub. No regrats.

I think anyone comic book artist should be required to read this. Around chapter 7 or so the style changes to have a ton of pages just tell their story through visuals and even though we get next to no words, we still perfectly understand the situations and what each character is feeling.

Also, it's insanely cinematic to the point that it almost feels like I'm looking at stills from a movie with perfect editing.

There was this moment where the main character slashes his sword in the air to clean the blood off and then we see the blood plattering in the ground to a new panel of the same sound effect and angle but now of a flowing river. I could totally imagine that at an amazing cut in a movie.

yeah the closest match in tone to Williamson I can think of is Slott's Amazing Spider-Man, dude just loves every single thing about the Flash family and he will not leave until he's acknowledged every minute detail he loved

Rearranged my setup in a way I'm much happier with. Now have SO much more room for omnis and deluxe editions (and even trades). Basically moved all of my over-oversized books to the top area that was kind of wasted/extra space, and took out the Image and Valiant mishmash of deluxe editions I have (those will go to a secondary bookshelf).

Over the next few months, I'll be adding WW by Perez Omni Vol 3, Red Hood and the Outlaws Omni Vol 1, Aquaman by Johns Omni, Super Sons Omni, Fantastic Four by Waid Omni, Silver Surfer by Slott Omni, and whatever Rebirth deluxe editions come out (besides JL Vol 3). So it feels good to have the space for them now.

For comparison, the shelf was completely full before I rearranged it.

(Note: the two empty spaces in the top middle shelf are for Batman by Loeb and Sale Omni and Death and Return of Superman Omni, both of which I'm currently reading.)

Been reading The Goon for today. Got probably a little over halfway through. And it started off making me go "this... this may not be for me, dang" with like, a bit of a random indie feel. But around the Hellboy crossover it started to pick up, and I'm pretty into it now... with one issue. The whole throwaway "gag" where he fights a "giant tranny" is just... that's not cool, and I really wish it wasn't in the book. Ugh.

Edit: Just to clarify, it IS used more to be a "lolrandom" type moment... but it still absolutely plays into the whole "trans people are men in dresses and gross and ridiculous" "joke," with the "punchline" even being "oh no my wig came off, I'm hideous!" expecting the audience to laugh because "obviously" a big "man in a dress" is already "hideous." Bleh. Was expecting a bit more out of the book, and even if it was before the big boom of trans awareness I suppose, still say the author should have known better by the time it was coming out.

That's fair. The book definitely sets out to be offensive and politically incorrect. At least know that the creator doesn't remotely hold any of these views.

Holy exposition dump Batman, the final issue of the Witching Hour was both predictable and a let down.

The Wild Storm on the other hand maintained its excellence as Ellis maneuvered all the pieces into place for next year's final arc.

Heroes in crisis is looking like such a mess
I am.not enjoying this

I thought identity crisis was bad but this is less than bleh

Good idea , awful book

I think red hood would have been a better vehicle for the story than harley
