Both Marvel and DC have done that a lot in the past. Regular sized HC --> Regular sized trade --> Oversized HC.
Marvel at least have reduced that a bit now. They release quick (poorly QC'd) trades first and then oversized HCs.

I didn't even watch NXT last night. I flipped to it a couple times but only saw jobber matches going on.
Is the doomsday clock volume 1 standard size as well? If it is then pass. I'll wait for a complete deluxe of some sort.

I'm struggling to find an instance of a writer screwing up royally with Dr Doom, he tends to be one of those characters with such a strong base that it can lead most stories

man, after the page by page grand scale of HoX and PoX this feels weird.
I guess I could toss in Doom's recent rescarring as pretty hacky to be fair. It definitely feels like the character has evolved to the point that he could be the exact same and not have a fucked up face. Could probably just give him a smaller scar.
