Objectively speaking, how well do these stand up today? I still play Neverwinter Nights regularly and have fun with it, but I've never played Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale. Do they feel dated or are they still solid games?

I can't believe I'm going to double dip on Planescape considering the difficulty I ran into last time but I'll give it a second chance at a higher price.

So heard bad things about the Enhanced Editions of BG1 and BG2. What's that about?

Planescape Torment is one of the best RPGs ever made. It never was never reliant on its tech so it will be fine.

I don't think there were any real changes to them, but Beamdog, the people working on them, did an expansion to BG2 and had sensitivity with regards to ethnic slurs and other stuff. This got them flak from the typical "anti-SJW" crowd, so you might be confusing that with problems with the Enhanced Editions.

I shall have them all.

I've lived three decades without getting into this style of RPG. I shan't live a fourth without finally giving it a try.

Now... Switch or PS4...

I'm very tempted. I did not play them at the time, but I sure play retro jRPGs quite frequently. Here's hoping I can enjoy them.

Fuck yeah, def getting at least one of these on switch.

If I had to limit myself to just one, which would folks recommend, assuming I have not played any of them but did enjoy the hell out of Divinity: Original Sin 2?

If you can put up with the jank-ass Aurora Engine in this day and age you can deal with the updated Infinity Engine games. From a gameplay standpoint, I'd say everything except maybe BG1 stands the test of time. BG2, Planescape, and Icewind Dale are all classics.

Definitely getting all of these for Switch. I've been eagerly anticipating their release and they aren't all that far off. Hopefully the play well and are relatively stable, I had a lot of crashing on the original Baldur's Gate on my PC.

Baldurs Gate 2 by a country mile. It's one of the best games of all time! I'm playing BG1 on my IPad right now and it's good but damn did they crank everything up to 1000 for the sequel!

Now im wondering if I should stop and play BG1+2 on consoles. Will controller be better than touch screen I'm really not sure...

Ah geez. I...really want to replay all those and play the couple I haven't but....do I really have 1000 free hours? I mean BG2 took me like 190 hours to beat....

I wonder too how much these hold up over time. I love Pillars of Eternity but it felt a lot smoother than the old CRPGs. Has anyone played them recently? How does it compare to Pillars and Divinity Original Sin 2 and other modern releases? BG 1/2 and Icewind Dale were some of my favorite games when they came out.

Baldur's Gate and Death Stranding are my most anticipated games of the year. 2019 is weird.

Pairing Icewind Dale and Torment together just kind of feels like "Well, they don't pair with anything else here," but it actually works out for me because ID is the one I most want to revisit and I never played Torment.

Will have to figure out which console to go with...can't imagine there should be much in the way of performance differences.

I know Planescape Torment is supposed to have a great narrative but what's Icewind Dale like? Does it have a good story too?

Box art is kind of unfortunate to be honest. I was hoping for something more elegant/blended like:

BG and IWD have clunkier interfaces than NWN and use an older edition of D&D that is a smidge less intuitive than the edition utilized in NWN (which isn't to say that version is perfect either, but it's flaws are much less apparent up front).
