I think it's pretty hard to not be basic honestly.

if mbdtf belongs, so does both of em's first lp's. sonicly mbdtf is amazing, but it's not that difficult to find verses that belong in the fucking trash bin instead of on that album.

blackstar is a great album, however talib kweli is hot trash and brings it down by a mile due to having a shit voice and being a mediocre writer.

i can see why illmatic is held in such high regard, but i was all west coast when that album dropped so i have no nostalgia towards it, and listening to ir today it just sounds horribly dated to me for the most part.
36 chambers sound is amazing, i do think forever has aged better overall.

i think rap/hiphop is really difficult to put on these type of lists, due to everything being in rhyme structure and how much progression there has been over the past three decades or so. and i feel this really only apply to this particular genre, where as lyrics in all other genres you won't see or feel the ''sign o the times'' as much.
like if you'd asked me in 1999 i would have put both soul on ice and word/life on that list, but listening to them today, they just feel dated as all hell.
i do think both rtj's first offerings are pretty close to being perfect though.

Pretty good lineup for Flog Gnaw. Crazy to see BH and Juice WRLD on the same level as Solange and YG, and the undercard actually looks decent.

Crazy that after Nicki dropped Meek we thought that was game over for him and now look at those two now.
