Alan wake and Control are definitely set in the same universe. There's hints troughout the game, with the events in Bright Falls being named as an example of an AWE the bureau contains.

The best one, though, is near the end of the game. You receive a cassette player with a song on it: Old Gods of Asgard singing about the events of the game.

Hell, AW's AN, the Old Gods mention "it will happen again in a town called Ordinary". The moment Jesse revealed that's where she came from, it was confirmed for me.

QB is more difficult, since it deals with the literal end of time. I haven't found any reference to it.

Yeah the poets of the fall singing is anotehr great hint.

I need to replay Alan Wake.

I accidentally stumbled upon the "Northmoor Sarcophagus Container" revelation after wandering around in the post story thinking that we never found out what NSC stands for.

I must have missed out and overlooked something- Was it ever mentioned what happened to Northmoor? I only remember Trench monologue about the moment leading to him picking up the gun and not what Northmoor did that made him this way.

There's a tiny bit of dialogue when you go back to central executive after the end, Arish says to an NPC something like "there's no official record of Northmoor's death...."

Crazy that he's powering the bureau.

I'm planning a replay of AW + Control sometime down the line next year, too.

I have to say, I expected another QB-quality game out of Control. The fact that it ended up being so tied to AW pretty much, pretty much landed it near the top of my GOTY list.

That was a fun ride. Loved just stopping to read all the lore. The maze was a blast.

Do we know for sure that the Board wasn't compromised? There's that call you get from them that says something like it's overstated/fake news that they were compromised, which is a pretty suspicious thing to call and say.

Oh I was just reminded about maybe my favorite little moment from the game. In the beginning Jesse talks about a prison movie and can't remember the name. Then when you beat the campaign and it spits you back out she remembers it's Shawshank. I cackled. It was such a human thing and a nice touch.

What's with the random televisions you can find in weird locations that are showing flames on their screens? I can't figure out what that signifies or references.

there's an audio file that has someone stating the 'reactor talks', there's an heat-vision feed on one of the monitors that shows there's a human body in the reactor and trench says northmoor is now 'keeping on the lights', which becomes chillingly clear what that means with the rest of the evidence.

When Ahti first gives you the quest to fix the pumps, he talks about the "pensioner". It flew over my head the first time, but upon re-watch he's totally talking about Northmoor.

Im really enjoying some of the post end game roaming dialogue that's being said.

It's totally worth revisiting some places where major story points happened, just for the chance of a new snippet of dialogue.

Oh man, I am also running around after beating the game and found that secret area on the fifth level of the Panopticon. The continued Alan Wake tie ins make me so happy. Seeing a page and a thermos and having video of Alan Wake working at a typewriter play is so damn cool.

Oh it was mentioned in the link I posted earlier: https://www.gamesradar.com/control-easter-eggs-alan-wake/

Everything is connected. Now we really need Quantum Break connectiosn unless there are Control references in Quantum Break if the latter happens after.
QB references the FBC

So there are 5 episodes of Threashold kids, right? Which one is you favorite?
I found 6: Altered Items, Astral Plane, Keeping Secrets, Missing Momma, When You're Caught in A House Shift, You and Your Special Powers
"You and Your Special Powers" might be my favorite, in part because it drops showcases some info about how Prime Candidates are tested on different potentials, like clairvoyance vs. telekenetic, and is also pretty funny.

If you were on PC, there's an easy way to get the ps4 exclusives
....How so?

Just finished a few hours ago. I'm glad Marshall and Jukebox stuff is coming in DLC, though for the former I kinda wish they didn't have NPC's reference her being missing in the Quarry preemptively, spent a lot of time looking there until giving up. There's a couple interesting things that didn't get tied up for me, one is the 5th sector:
I8LyhAY.png

In Tommasi's Office/Mail Room you can see it crossed out and one of the lights is burned out (presumably these lights represent pneumatic tube stations). I assumed this would be the final sector we go to, but we never do. Later in the game Investigations Sector is mentioned so I'm guessing that's what this is. In the Ordinary Supplement it mentions that was where they were originally going to place the entire dump at, but the sector was too small so they had to put it in Containment instead. Not sure if the DLC will explore this since it sounds like it'll focus on The Foundation. Maybe the second DLC, "AWE"?

There was also this "Tennyson Report" thing. I thought I remembered this being mentioned twice, but this is the only collectible I could find about it at a quick glance:
zkCkh9u.jpg

What was this all about?

Lastly this is a sign at the elevator in the Panopticon. Maybe I'm seeing things but the typeface underneath the paint kind of looks like it says Remedy Offices. Couldn't find any easter eggs on the 3rd floor though:

I could be mistaken, but I thought the thing about Marshall going missing in the Quarry was about a previous time she seemed to disappear there for a while, not her absence at the end of the game.

You can find the Tennyson Report in a hidden area, but I forget which one. It's basically a guy saying that the FBC is making a mistake by discounting magic and faith by approaching everything from a scientific standpoint.

I discover earlier today that I was missing the "caught in a hosue shift". Do you remember where you found it?

I'm pretty sure it's both - she has been seen disappearing to the Quarry before, but that's also where she's presumably headed in the post-game since Arish mentions her in the Maintenance Sector, and the Quarry and the Foundation are in the Maintenance Sector.

Huh I remember that, I didn't realize that's what the Tennyson Report was though. I'll see if I can find it in my collectibles.

Shit, there's five of them!? I only found two.

Guess I'm doing this now.

There are SIX!

Did you get the one in the mirror room?
After the boss fight, upstairs.

Yes. In the room with a lot of TVs right?

I finished the game, picked up like 220 collectibles, and I only have three Threshold Kids videos.

I got 5. Technically four, and one more while I was roaming after finishing the game.

Yeah that's the one, that was the last one for me as I never checked after beating the boss.

I finished the game, picked up like 220 collectibles, and I only have three Threshold Kids videos.

There's a total of 261 (PC/Xbox) 262 (PS4).
I've got some searching to do...
  • 201 documents (202 on PlayStation b/c of the exclusive side mission)
  • 23 audio logs
  • 7 images
  • 3 songs
  • 21 Darling videos
  • 6 Threshold Kids videos

Is the board behind the creation of Polaris?

Initially, it appears that Polaris is some sort of sentient form that wants to reunite Jesse with Dylan. However, it's later revealed later that it led Jesse to the Oldest House in order to defeat the Hiss.

Makes me wonder if Jesse is a puppet doing the Boards bidding.

Finished the game last night and that was a fun ride. I didn't think the last bit would be a gauntlet, but I had fun being supercharged by the board. I almost got the platinum, but just need to find a few hidden places to get the last ability points I need to fill out my power tree.

There was also this "Tennyson Report" thing. I thought I remembered this being mentioned twice, but this is the only collectible I could find about it at a quick glance:

I never found the actual report, but if you hang around the executive control point when Arish is there you can hear some NPCs talk about it. Basically, Tennyson put forth the theory that the FBC is just a shadow organization or front for something(someone?) else.

I find it funny that Control instantly makes the events/story of Alan Wake cooler. I thought it was dumb as hell, and I hated how there seemingly were to "rules" to the AW universe. Everything seemed so random and meaningless (the clicker, etc). But in the context of the FBC/AWE/OoP, it makes perfect sense and is now really cool. Funny how context can change a story completely!

So yeah, finished up the game. Loved it! Some Era-style notes:

- Loved that the Hiss were a resonance based life form/entity. Very alien and very cool.
- Fantastic use of more esoteric concepts like "meaning" and public consciousness. I love that Remedy went hard in on these abstract thought forms and explained them in a very rational way. Like how iconic depictions of something can give it power, just because that iconography is part of the public consciousness. Everything related to luck and probability was just pure pornography for me.
- Walking around the research area and seeing "RITUAL DIVISION" is huge text covering the screen. Mundane and fantastical at the same time. Love it.
- Amazing level design and sense of exploration.
- Lots of side quests (still haven't done them all).

Dylan definitely references Max Payne in one of his speeches, btw.

Finished this last night and had no idea wtf was going on, but in a good way. The lore and world building is fucking incredible, and I love how they left some shit either super vague or entirely unexplained. For a sequel I hope they go ALL the way in on the dimensional fuckery though. Like have some parts of the Old House be entirely different planets or something. All in all this game was a huge surprise to me. Can't wait to see what Remedy does next.

I actually dislike that Alan Wake is do directly connected to Control. I enjoy that all of Remedy's games have a sort of loose connection, but the direct connection of Control with Alan Wake robs the latter of all mystery and purpose in a way none of the other connections have.

I don't think being connected to Control makes Alan Wake any more mysterious. We know events like that aren't exactly unique, but that's about it.

Think I only found three Threshold Kids eps on my runthrough, so who knows how many other collectables I've missed out on too.

I feel like one of the more obvious Max Payne links to me was Trench having the same voice actor: James McCaffrey. Him blowing smoke in your face all game both literally and figuratively with his monologues was peak Remedy vibes really.

The boss fight against Tommasi is such a pain in the ass. Doesn't help that the checkpoint is like a mile away + 30 seconds loadtime ugh..

Pierce is good aginst his shield but his health is pretty spongy.

I'm thinking the one in the meteor room, which is the hardest one.
You need to run a bit from the control point, levitate across the turntable and the walk in for a bit to get Tommasi to spawn.

Well, ok. It might be 10 seconds.

I was just annoyed by having to run again to every boss after a death in general, courtesy of the lolonesave policy. There are certainly more egregious examples, like the fucking FORMER or Mr.Moldy.

I see. For me that was not really a problem. They were almost aways very small runs and I don't think every game needs the same checkpoint system. On the other side, It's possible the game should have tried harder to justify the control points as a respawn mechanics.

If those concepts, specifically luck and probability as it's explained in this game appeal to you, I'd highly recommend the movie Intacto.
