Feels like this was a pretty clear cut case of things after seeing the vid. Also, aren't officers in United Shtates of 'Murica required to wear body cams (and do they not have innate audio recording capability)?

Body cam footage has a tendency to get "lost" when it happens to incriminate officers, and even the ones that show officers blatantly going outside the law gets brushed off
"Required" sure in some states/counties, but they don't have to be on or functional. There are all manner of ways out of situations for them where the camera just happens to be not working when something it clearly should have recorded goes down.
Look, I'm no fan of open-carry or the people who use such laws as an excuse to tote around weapons, but this has nearly nothing to do with that. They were looking to frame this dude and got off without any issue despite blatantly stating their intentions.
Honestly I'd settle for "expect as much of" in my darker moments
Sorry, anytime I see these videos of open-carry chuds getting off on walking around in public with exposed lethal weapons and "catching" police in the act of trying to cite them, it makes me angry. Just more toxic masculinity.
The hell!? That sounds contradictory to the purpose of implementing measures to allow for greater transparency.
For a country that birthed social media and in general, home to silicon valley, I am having trouble conceiving as to why there is not a more robust tamper free system which does NOT allow for on-duty officers to turn it off and stream data directly to a cloud server instead of a local storage.

Isn't it against the law to be on the highway walking? Not at all suggesting what the cops did after they stopped them was right, but walking on the highway is at least illegal here. Yes, the law should be changed. No one should be able to openly carry a gun anywhere in public. But the officers should have lost their jobs for what they did.

If you're not familiar with these sorts of stories, the whole "there are no good cops" is good shorthand, but when you break it down further it's even darker than that. Any time a cop does speak out about this sort of shit or any racist stuff the police do, they're promptly transferred, threatened into silence on the matter, or just plain dropped from the force all together (usually through threats). This makes it almost unheard of these days to see any cop speaking out against this sort of thing, adding even more credence to the concept. You either are one of the horrible cops or you're a halfway decent cop who isn't doing anything to stop the horrible ones...
I think this attitude within a group ails institutions built on dispensing force. Earlier today, I saw the thread about that marine Gallagher who was found not guilty of war crime. Deeper reading of the events that led up to him being turned in by his "own" platoon describes situations where he threatened to kill others if they went to disciplinary authorities and that those aforementioned platoon members have been derided as traitors and threatened to the point where they now fear for their lives.
It also emboldens these degenerates when they have public support from the highest public office held by a supreme piece of shit with the power to not only alter perception of people but also to pardon criminals.

A lot of cops behaviors and decision making consistent with gang life mentally. If you don't protect do what's necessary to your own then it's wrap for you. It's either you're with or against. You also bet the fraud triangle (https://www.hrzone.com/hr-glossary/what-is-the-fraud-triangle) comes into play here when there's money involved because cops are generally under paid for their work.
