First of all let me just say that I know I brought across the old thread. BUT that ok was completely outdated and irrelevant in 2018. I have been compiling A LOT of info from recent interviews, videos, Twitter posts and decided a new thread with new info was better.

So... What is Cyberpunk 2077?

Announced in 2013, Cyberpunk 2077 is an Sci-fi RPG game currently in development by CD Poject Red, the creators of critically acclaimed The Witcher series.

Cyberpunk 2077's universe is based on the original Pen and paper game by Mike Pondsmith Cyberpunk 2020 who is helping the studio with the story and setting.

When is Cyberpunk 2077 coming out?

In an earnings call, CDPR said that Cyberpunk 2077 is due to be released between 2019 and 2021.

CDPR in the same call said they had 2 AAA games to release before 2021. Cyberpunk 2077 and one other un announced AAA game. They later clarified in the official forums that Cyberpunk 2077 would be the first of the 2 AAA games to release so 2019 is looking likely to be the release window.

When will we see it next?

CDPR are confirmed to be attending E3 2018 in June and it's rumoured to be a part of Microsoft's E3 conference. It's highly likely that we will get to see a new trailer and hear some vital details and hopefully get to see some gameplay after all this time.

But what do we actually know about the game itself?

Well we know quite a lot of details actually considering it's been so long since announcement. However most of these are old and can't be relied upon anymore hence the creation of this new thread.
Here's a summary of the game with links to videos and articles for further reading.

  • Cyberpunk 2077 is set inNight City.(Video link)
    • Night City is located in Northern California on America's West Coast.
    • Locations and districts include Kabuki, Heywood, CP and Pacifica.
    • Night City is incredibly futuristic, Ultra modern full of dark mega Corporations. The Three known Mega Corportations are the Japanese giant Araska, the US giant Militech, Dynalar Technologies and Kiroshi.
  • It's a massive Single player RPG that is bigger than anything CDPR has done before. The workforce has been doubled in size compared to the Witcher 3's development team.
    • The game will feature advanced character creation mechanics.
    • Character class, Gender, facial and body features, clothing and appearance can all be chosen.
    • The Character Classes are:
      • Cop
      • Corporate
      • Media
      • Netrunner
      • Nomad
      • Techie
      • Solo
      • Rockerboy
      • Fixer
    • Online Multiplayer is in, it was confirmed years ago but last year CDPR re confirmed that online components are in but also re confirmed that it's first and foremost a single player game.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 is ditching The Witcher 3's Horses and will feature an infinitely more advanced mode of transport such as Cars, Bikes Planes and Robots as vehicles Cars and Bikes will also feature flying variants.
Now that's over, we can take a look at some of the info CDPR has spoken about regarding Cyberpunk 2077.

Character Classes.

Gamereactor spoke to Mike Pondsmith at Gamelab 2017 regarding the Character Classes in Cyberpunk 2077 and whether we can expect the Character Classes from Cyberpunk 2020.

"The vision is really pretty close to what I had in my head years ago," Pondsmith told us. "What's actually funny was when they did the trailer that everyone's seen now, I looked at it and said 'oh my god, that's like perfect.' And there were all these little weird touches from the game that were in the background, because they're fans. So I look at it and go 'oh, they really did that [...] that's awesome'."

Game reactor also touched on the interesting classes from the pen and paper RPG, and asked whether we could expect to see rock stars, journalists, and executives in the video game.

"Yes, you can," Pondsmith replied. "They're all going to be there but I can't tell you more... You're going to find some surprises about how we've done it, and I think you're really going to like it. There's a lot of subtlety going on there [...] Adam [Badowski - we think] and I spent literally a whole week messing with some of the ways of implementing that. So you get the most feel for your character"

So it looks like the original classes are still in as CDPR said they were way back in 2012 via EuroGamer.

These are the Character Classes:

  • Cop - lawmen equipped to handle the especially unruly streets of Night City's dystopia. Their special ability in the tabletop game is 'Authority', which basically gets people to do what they want, whether through intimidation or respect for the badge. Career skills include perception, athletics, interrogation, street knowledge, and brawling, while the default weapon is a handgun. The Cyberpunk 2077 teaser trailer shows a Max Tac Agent - a specialist officer of the Night City PD, judging by his badge - putting a gun to the head of the augmented woman.
  • Corporate - spoiled yuppie businesspeople, both agents and beneficiaries of the megacorporations' conquest of the American economy. And in Cyberpunk's corrupt, cutthroat world, ambition isn't enough to climb the greasy ladder - Corporates deal in bribery, blackmail, sabotage, and even assassination. But to keep their hands clean, they often use their charisma and stupendous wealth to get others to do it for them. Their special ability is 'Resources', which - depending on their seniority - allows them to leverage Corporate perks, such as company cars or private security.
  • Fixer - the people who 'know how to get things done', Fixers are dealmakers, middlemen, fences, smugglers, and information brokers. They are intimately connected to the beat of the street, with contacts in circles high and low, reputable and deplorable. Skills include forgery, intimidation, persuasion, and the picking of both locks and pockets. Their special ability is setting up a Street Deal.
  • Media - journalists in an RPG? Believe it. The megacorporations regularly engage in information warfare - which is looking stunningly prescient in the era of 'fake news' - and the Media are out to stop them. Though there are plenty of crazy conspiracy theorists in Night City, this class focuses on the credible reporters. Hence, their special ability is 'Credibility', which enables them to convince people of the truth of horrible scandals. It checks against the other party's intelligence - make of that what you will.
  • Netrunner - the superhackers of the future, Netrunners roam the internet using brain-computer interface implants, rooting out information to sell (typically to Fixers). Skills relate to different branches of hacking, programming, electronics, and cybersecurity. Their special ability is 'Interface'.
  • Nomad - unemployment is even crueler in Cyberpunk's world than in ours, as it is generally permanent. Nomads have been blacklisted by the megacorporations and so have no way to earn a living. Instead, they roam the highways, scavenging for supplies in motor-gangs so large they're practically mobile towns. It is very Mad Max. Skills include driving, rifles, endurance, and survival. Through their special ability - 'Family' - Nomads can call on their crew for hospitality, protection, or other assistance. The catch: they must reciprocate, or else lose standing.
  • Rockerboy - bards are lame, but rockstars are cool, and /that/ is the word for Cyberpunk's Rockerboys (or girls). They are charisma incarnate - literal cyber/punks/ who express through music the tortured soul of the streets. They live to hearten the oppressed and resist authority, and poetry is their weapon. Skills include persuasion, seduction, street knowledge, and performance, and their special ability is 'Charismatic Leadership'.
  • Solo - Solos are mercenaries, taking work as hitmen, bodyguards, and whatever else, for whoever can pay. Many have military experience, perhaps in a corporate army, and those who don't die may replace lost limbs with cybernetic prosthetics. They are the fighters of Cyberpunk's world, with skills in a variety of weapon and combat proficiencies, as well as stealth, perception, and athletics. Their special ability is 'Combat Sense', which enables them to perceive danger, notice traps, and generally sense harm.
  • Techie - a catch-all term for the tinkerers of the future, Cyberpunk's Techies are typically the clandestine sort, who do 'off-the-record' engineering for a variety of clients. They make their living by building, fixing, and modifying technology - a much-demanded proficiency in Night City. Skills relate to many different types of tech, as well as weaponsmithing, teaching, and electronic security. Their special ability is 'Jury Rig', which governs this proficiency for improvised engineering.
Pondsmith also said in the article above that there will be some surprises regarding the classes so maybe we can expect more also.

Mega Coporations

The original game featured 23 Mega Corporations. As we know a couple of them are in Cyberpunk 2077 we can safely say a few more of them will make it.

Courtesy of PCGamesN the Mega Corporations are as follows:

  • Arasaka - a huge Japanese zaibatsu dealing in corporate security, whose megalomaniacal CEO is obsessed with turning Japan into a superpower. Along with EDM, Microtech, Orbital Air, Network News, and Militech, they are one of several megacorps shown in the news ticker during the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer, so their presence in the game's world is confirmed.
  • Biotechnica - an Italian megacorp specialising in biotechnology and genetic engineering.
  • Dakai Soundsystems - an Asian corp known for cybernetics that aid communication, such as vocal enhancers (or scramblers).
  • Dynalar Technologies - a cybernetics corporation native to Night City. One of their storefronts appears in the Cyberpunk 2077 teaser trailer, so we know they're in the game universe.
  • Euro Business Machines (EBM) - an information technology and electronics corporation headquartered in Germany (and a likely nod to IBM). They are one of the more influential megacorps, with a huge private army and workforce.
  • Infocomp - a commercial think tank and information broker based in Los Angeles.
  • International Electric Corporation (IEC) - a European conglomerate involved in many industries, from FMCG to heavy construction, corporate finance, and insurance (likely based on General Electric).
  • Kendachi - a Japanese advanced arms manufacturer. Noted products include flamethrowers and monoblades.
  • Lazarus Group - an American private military contractor (mercenary army) with close ties to Militech.
  • Merril, Asukaga & Finch - financial and investment services firm based in New York (probable allusion to Merrill Lynch).
  • Microtech - a computer and electronics manufacturer based in Texas and a clear reference to Microsoft.
  • Militech - American arms manufacturer, distributor, and mercenary contractor with ties to the US Government, police, and military - the 2077 teaser trailer suggests they make guns for the Night City PD. Their CEO wants to halt the decline of the USA, and they compete with Arasaka for influence and market share.
  • Mitsubishi-Sugo - a major transportation manufacturer.
  • Network News 54 - an American 24-hour news network based in New York. If they make it into the videogame, Media class characters can probably expect some quests here.
  • Orbital Air - a Kenyan aerospace corporation. They maintain commercial orbital facilities and transport passengers to and from them.
  • Petrochem - a petrochemical energy and agribusiness corporation based in Texas.
  • Raven Microcybernetics - a market-leading cybernetics company.
  • SovOil - a neo-Soviet oil giant that controls a vast percentage of the petrochemicals market.
  • Trauma Team International - a private medical firm from Los Angeles providing ambulance and paramedical services. They also deal in medical insurance and prepaid disaster relief.
  • World News Service - a global news conglomerate based in London, comparable to the Associated Press.
  • WorldSat Communications Network (WorldSatCom) - a satellite communications company based in Paris.
  • Zetatech - a computer hardware and software design company based in California, and one of the newer megacorps in the market. Another specialty is 'wetware' - computer tech that interfaces with the human brain.

The setting

The game is set in Night City in the year 2077. Night City is located in California somewhere between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The city was founded by Richard Night.

There's a lot of more for the city itself which can be found here. It's a fantastic video that's worth a watch if you fancy catching up on the originals story.

Otherwise here's an outline of Night City via PCGamesN. Also don't forget that some of these details may be altered for 2077. However, in an interview with EuroGamer in 2017, Pondsmith said this.

"When I write new stuff for Cyberpunk now, I talk to them so what I do in 2030 matches up with what's going to happen in 2077. It allows them the ability to move forward and I can still create new stuff as long as we stay coordinated."

For instance: "A couple of weeks ago I went over the current story script and was going through it, 'okay okay this is great this is great - oh by the way that person is dead'," he says. "We're constantly going back and forth, we work really hard on the timeline. We want people to have that sense that there's a coherent universe. They mesh together surprisingly well."

So ultimately we can take that as the storyline follows on from the original and the updated versions.

Cyberpunk is set in a dystopian near-future, amid a fictional Californian city named Night City after its founder, Richard Night. Between then and now, the USA has suffered a vast socioeconomic collapse that has sent ripples around the world, throwing the entire planet - but especially the West - into chaos. The enfeebled US government has only maintained order with the aid of a number of megacorporations, some of which may seem familiar (see below).

It all starts to go wrong in 1990, when the US intervenes disastrously in a Central American war. This, together with the release of US-developed plagues targeting drug plants, stokes anti-American sentiment among powerful Central American cartels. With the backing of the European Union, who are much more competitive in this alternative universe, these cartels prosecute a savage drug war all over the Americas. In 1993, they are even able to detonate a small nuclear device in New York, killing tens of thousands.

Matters worsen in 1994 with a massive global stock market crash that hits the USA hardest, causing widespread unemployment and homelessness. A nuclear accident in Pittsburgh drives internal migration, as does a drought across the midwest, which leads to a food crisis. The family farm is essentially wiped out, so corporations come to control all US agriculture. Food exports to the rest of the world cease, which obviously causes its own problems.

In 1996, the president and vice president are assassinated, and the US government fragments - the NSA, CIA, FBI, and DEA form the 'Gang of Four' and collude to further their own interests. Criminal gangs are established or emboldened all over the country - one of them, the Bloods, take almost total control of Miami. Executive authority is passed down the ranks to the defence secretary, who suspends the constitution and declares martial law. By now, one in four Americans are homeless, leading to huge Mad Max-style gangs of violent 'Nomads'.

Over the next few years, toxic spills off the coast of Seattle ravage its economy. A 10.5 earthquake shatters Los Angeles. Tensions in the Middle East escalate to nuclear exchange, reducing much of the region to radioactive slag and halving the world's oil supply. Several states secede from the United States, including California. You get the idea: everyone has a jolly bad time.

Corporate power has been waxing across the globe as businesses exploit the opportunities created by this chaos. Corporations have been training their own armies as early as 1997, and ultimately the enfeebled US government has no choice but to turn to them for help containing the nomads, gangs, and cartels running rampant across the country. The corporations take most of what they liberate for themselves, and only grow stronger. Governments across the world - and especially in the US - are then powerless to prevent a series of corporate wars.

That's pretty much all you need to know. Cyberpunk's fictional timeline continues for many more years, but from here on out it's an esoteric account of escalating inter-corporate wars that probably won't mean a lot to you. Basically: nukes, natural disasters, everyone's screwed. Also bear in mind that, since the last edition (v3) of the board game is set in the 2030s, CD Projekt Red will have come up with another few decades of history which no-one outside the project will currently know about. Somehow we doubt things have improved much.

Multiplayer

We know the game features some type of Multiplayer component but we don't know in what capacity it will be integrated. There are some details though.

Speaking to Polish investment site Strefa Inwestorow, CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kiciński revealed that the developer is investing heavily in Cyberpunk 2077 and hopes to make it more financially successful than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Kiciński confirmed that "there will be a certain online element related to Cyberpunk," adding that "Online is necessary, or very recommended if you wish to achieve a long-term success."

Nirolak also looked into the job postings back on the old site and had this to say.

Given the posting lists things that are relevant to both regular gameplay as well as database backends, it seems they will probably have both direct player interaction and some kind of backend services that will presumably consist of things like multiplayer stats tracking, campaign telemetry data, and other such things. [...] They put up another technical posting directly under the Cyberpunk category that makes it sound like a pretty traditional multiplayer setup.
From this we can deduce that it'll probably be friends joining story missions etc or something more traditional.

Weapons

Vehicles and Weapons will play a big part of Cyberpunk 2077. We know what to expect thanks to job postings and the studio video tour, plus other little tidbits of info over the last couple of years.

As Pondsmith and CDPR wants 2020 and 2077 to be aligned in story and Characters as outlined above, we can speculate that some of the Weapons and Vehicles from 2020 will make the jump as well as updated ones due to the timelines being decades ahead in 2077.

Here's the said video tour analysis by LegacyKillaHD, it's worth a watch and there's a lot of information in the video.
YouTube

Weapons are categorised as so:

Pistols are any type of single shot (or semiautomatic) weapon that may be accurately fired with one hand.

Submachine guns are any type of weapon that may fire either automatically or semi automatically, using only pistol ammunition.

Shotguns are any weapon that fires pellets or other small particles instead of a solid slug.

Rifles include assault rifles, carbines, and fully automatic rifles. These weapons always fire rifle type ammunition.

Heavy Weapons include missiles, grenades, heavy cannon, etc.

Melee Weapons include swords, daggers, knives, martial arts weapons, polearms, etc.

Exotic Weapons these are bows. lasers, flechette pistols, airguns and microwave weapons - the real "sci-fi" weapons. Bows and Crossbows, as well as slings and other odd weapons types fall under this category as well.

The complete list of 2020 weapons can be found here at Datafortress The work these guys have put in is immense so it's well worth a look.

It's worth noting that not every weapon will make it across and due to the game taking place decades after the first, some of the Weapons being unrealistic and 2077 being decades ahead of the original and updates.

Vehicles

Currently there is little known about the vehicles, we know as said in the Weapons category that CDPR and Pondsmith wants the Cyberpunk series to be aligned Universally, as in each games lore matches each other down to characters that have died. They're both working together and constantly communicate back and forth about any changes so they can both realign the universe.

From this we can deduce that some of the vehicles will make it across and we also know there are now flying vehicles thanks to job postings at CDPR. The postings in 2016 and 2017 mention Cars, Motorbikes, Planes and Robots.

Vehicles in 2020 are categorised as so:

Motorcycles
Cars
Pickups
Trucks
APC
IFV
Tanks
Hovers
Aerodynes
Helicopters, light, medium and heavy
Gliders
Ospreys
Airplanes
Airships
Cyberwalks
Spinners
Watercraft
Submersible

The majority of these probably won't make the game, I doubt submersibles, watercraft, airships, ospreys, gliders, tanks, APC's or IFV's will be in as usable vehicles. They may feature as unusable vehicles but who knows at this point. The game isn't GTA so the list will most likely (the job postings) be realistic.

It also seem like the job postings will mix flying vehicles like hovers, aerodynes, spinners will be mixed into the cars and Motorbikes categories since the majority of those vehicles are flying cars and Motorbikes anyway.

With that in mind the list of usable vehicles will probably end up being something like this:
  • Cars
    • Flying
    • Wheeled
  • Motorbikes
    • Flying
    • Wheeled
  • Planes
  • Helicopters
  • Cyberwalks
The full list of vehicles in 2020 can be found here at Datafortress and again is well worth a look for reference purposes due to the universes being aligned so some of those vehicles will most definitely be featured in 2077.

Exciting!

That's all for now, I'll be updating the thread when new information comes up. All this info comes from recent sources no further back than 2015 at the very latest. Don't forget that things change in game development, things get added, things get cut and lastly the rumour of the game being scrapped and re started was false. CDPR has confirmed this multiple times.

This game is going to set a new bar like The Witcher 3 did. Can't wait for the gameplay reveal. CDproject's eye for attention to detail, and polish + Cyberpunk setting is a dream combo!

The reveal can't come soon enough. My hype levels are through the roof already. Their work on TW3 and their improvements that are going to be implemented into Cyberpunk are going go be something special.

Thanks for all the info !
You are very welcome.

To clarify a bit on my old postings, I think the multiplayer might actually be separate, but that people misunderstood the live translation of the investor presentation.

Basically, as far as I can tell, they said it's first and foremost a singleplayer game, and that they will market that part first (as in, they will debut the game with the singleplayer campaign), but I don't think they actually meant to imply that multiplayer was a post launch addition instead of being there at launch.

The recurrent theme across all their comments was essentially "We know our traditional fans are very concerned about the addition of multiplayer to one of our games, so we want to focus on reassuring them that this will be a great singleplayer game first (without any unusual business models like singleplayer microtransactions), our biggest and best in fact, before announcing what the multiplayer is".

This game will shake the industry if they repeat the same thing of TW3 with an improved combat system and a deep charatcer creation and customization system.

I'm really extremely excited to see this game when they finally debut it.

I hope this is the Mass Effect 1 of next generation RPGs. I remember when ME1 released that gameplay video touting all the stuff you can do in the galaxy, I was absolutely stunned. I really hope this does the next step for that and really delivers something special.

No pressure or anything.

Nice to have vehicles confirmed. had no idea they were a thing. Would be nice if you could ride futuristic trains/metro too (like in the teaser). Sounds like its packed with content.

I thought they were gonna try too much with Witcher 3 but somehow delivered. Again, I think they're trying to make a game way beyond the company's capabilities (doubling the team size isn't exactly organic growth), which could end up in disaster... or one of the best RPGs ever.

Follow the links. There are various articles / interviews by Mike Pondsmith about what him and CDOR are doing. The weapons are from the tour video plus things Pondsmith has said, vehicles are from job postings, plus Pondsmith.

If you follow the links and read up, it's all from official sources such as CDPR, Pondsmith, and the tour. A lot of the info like the continuity of story, lore, settings, Weapons, vehicles wasn't known. If you read old articles they mention the game was loosely based on the 2020 Universe but we now know that it's directly a continuation and come directly from Pondsmith himself and who knows better.

That is why I changed the thread because a lot of this info was speculated but now it comes directly from Pondsmith himself who is in constant collaboration with CDPR to make sure that the universes and everything in it are the one and same.

That means that CDPR aren't allowed to change things that much, so with that info we can ascertain whether certain things will be in the game or not. Some of it, like the 2020 stuff is speculative but ultimatley based on evidence through interviews.

Hoping it isn't a cross-gen game, but know CDPR won't want to miss out on the sales potential PS4/XB1 provide.
Well they confirmed that their new engine and Cyberpunk will scale up "but they can't talk about it". I dunno what to expect at this stage.

Some think it's a Ciri game but I don't know. I' rather them put The Witcher universe on hold and do a new IP. Although a Ciri game would be fucking excellent!

They are definitely under big pressure after W3 became such a big success.

Some think it's a Ciri game but I don't know. I' rather them put The Witcher universe on hold and do a new IP. Although a Ciri game would be fucking excellent!

Doubt that will happen. The Witcher franchise is too big and successful to be put on hold, especially with the Netflix show on the way, which will certainly increase the IP's visibility a lot more (despite being based on the books, it's gonna be highly beneficial for the games too). It's more likely they don't have enough staff to handle another Witcher game until they're done with Cyberpunk, so they might just be doing pre-production on a new Witcher title until they ship Cyberpunk in 2019-2020.

If that unannounced AAA title is actually a new IP, that means we'll probably only get a new Witcher after 2024, which seems like a huge break for their staples series, particularly after The Witcher 3 was such a massive hit.

Thanks for the info roundup. I find it hard to believe they will be able to create every class with enough gameplay depth. If you're a Rocker class, will your game be massively different than a Solo? Will a Corporate class work within a megacorp doing executive type things, will a Cop actually work as a cop within the PD? It seems a bit too good to be true. I'd love to be wrong though.

Absolutely agree after reading this. Never thought about it like that to be honest and completely forgot about the Netflix series haha.

See when they first announced the classes in 2013 I instantly said to myself, there's no way they can pull it off with any depth to the classes. However Pondsmith recently said that the way CDPR are doing it is amazing and there are surprises to be seen. He says CDPR are the only studio who have proven themselves to make a faithful Cyberpunk game.

Seeing how this guy had multiple offers by game companies to make a Cyberpunk game and he turned them all down in favour of CDPR because they "get It" makes me believe that CDPR are actually going to pull it off.
