If it's free like how watching ppl open up boxes is free then I say yea go nuts.People like slot machines, so surely there's no downside to putting slot machines everywhere. What can go wrong? Everyone likes seeing people win.
I spent $0 this event and got: Zenyatta, McCree, Reaper, and Sym's skins. Plus they'll be available for cheaper next year.
The only reason this exists is to entice people with latent gambling tendencies and children to spend money on loot crates of their own. The entire reason people watch others opening crates on Twitch is because of the inherent thrill of the gamble.People like a thing. A company logically puts said thing in their game. I don't see the problem. It's giving ppl free exp for doing stuff they already enjoy doing.
why is it so hard to just follow overwatch's loot box system? why?

If children want to spend their money on loot boxes I say let them. If it's their parents money I say the parents deserve to get fleeced for their cash if they allow the kid to have their card info without doing some investigation. The only reason this exists is to entice people with latent gambling tendencies and children to spend money on loot crates of their own. You thought publishers would stop at simply making buttloads of cash? Lmao
In the games industry EVERY slope is slippery
It doesn't man. I'm trying to find a study I read about this but all it does is make people want to gamble more and more, even if they don't consciously think about it. That logic (i'll just watch, not play) is out of step with how your brain works when you see someone win big.If children want to spend their money on loot boxes I say let them. If it's their parents money I say the parents deserve to get fleeced for their cash if they allow the kid to have their card info without doing some investigation.
What if watching others open lootboxes satisfies these latent gamblers like those videos do and they keep their money instead of buying boxes of their own.
Fuckup on my part if that is true, hopefully its just *Supply drops* then.
limited what now? All of the events repeat, people can just wait. And if they do, it's pretty easy to get the ones from the previous year since they are pretty cheap with the in-game currency. You mean the system where they come out with limited-edition costumes to encourage people to spend tons of money in desperate hopes to get them?
Activision.
Man this + paid DLC is going to make bank for this game.

How to oversimplify things 101.People like a thing. A company logically puts said thing in their game. I don't see the problem. It's giving ppl free exp for doing stuff they already enjoy doing.
that one isn't even that good tbh, Halo 5 is still one of the best ones i have seen, so easy to get even the higher quality ones. Only have paid once and it was part donation.why is it so hard to just follow overwatch's loot box system? why?
Good for you, meanwhile i only got the rare Zenyatta skin
The "Skins only available for three weeks!" system in OW is horseshit
I'm fine with Loot boxes, but this is something else. Shoving gambling right into peoples faces, when they just wanna do a daily for points.
It's quite smart from a marketing standpoint though, I gotta give them that.
Don't you see the end goal of this system? At least watching people open loot boxes is less harmful than wasting money on them.
Activision, lookin' out for the kids.
I don't enjoy those streams, but there does seem to be something different. I can't really imagine deriving any pleasure from seeing some rando unbox loot in a public lobby. But I could see a situation where someone might find some comedic value from some streamer unbox stuff and make commentary about all the junk they're getting.People on this forum seem to be, like, utterly unaware that a weirdly huge amount of people like watching others open loot boxes. There are entire streams and youtubers who do nothing but that shit, as baffling as it may seem.

One is like blatant advertising, the other is a weird kind of pseudo-voluntary advertisement where you're choosing to watch microtransaction purchases.
But that's literally the point of lootboxes. They put something you might want in the lootbox trying to entice you to roll for it over and over again so I don't see how you can be ok with lootboxes if this concerns you.
Jeffs getting paid to do that though. Not only is it his job to make fun content like that, but it brings more clicks and $$$.I watched Jeff Gerstmann drop $50 on Overwatch lootboxes during a UPF and thought it was pretty damned funny.

If you drop $50 on WW2 loot boxes and have people watch you, you won't get anything aside from (appearantly) better drop rates.
It's getting to the point where you're paying activision for the privilege of suckering other people in to buy lootboxes.
I don't care if someone opens a loot box in private. Opening loot boxes in public exist just to promote more gambling and loot boxes.
If someone wanna do this quest they are basicly forced to watch gambling.
This is worse. It's a $60 game, with $60 worth of dlc, loot boxes, and a sequel coming out next year.i guess. but it's not as if other games don't show you what people get regardless of whether or not you want to. like destiny 2.
