Those big crawling skeletons took me a while to wrap my head around.

Also accidentally killed Reah of Thorolund today. I talked to Patches and got thrown down the pit, then got ambushed by her goons, aggro'd her while I was blindly staggering around fighting them, and killed her before I knew what was up. Second NPC I've gotten, after the onion-armor guy (where I wasn't getting him to talk to me, so I listened to an orange sign that said to kick him, which sent him over the side to his death).

Managed to beat the phantom paladin, then got murdered by some tiny skeletons beyond.

Tomb of the Giants is wack.

Definitely blind. You only get one shot at a first playthrough and a huge part of the tension in these games is not knowing what comes next. You can always do NG+ later and then clean up using a guide.

There's not much she can do to you if you are hitting her side or behind. Watch out for her AoE slam, which is her most dangerous attack. It's very telegraphed. She'll stand up high on her legs to charge up so you can just roll away and let her do it.

I suggest you don't use lock on in this fight. Makes it easier to steer to position yourself away from her attacks. If she does the fire vomit run to a different part of the arena to kite her there. Don't get greedy. Hit her once or twice if you've got an opening and keep your positioning and an eye on your stamina meter.

Are you "fat" rolling? How heavy is your armor?
Thanks. Yeah think I am usually fat rolling (can't check weight right now) but for her I've got my leather on which is lighter but good vs fire. I got her down to about two hits left and then died as run out of my five estus.

I think I'll kindle the bonfire and then should be good. Your tips helped, thanks!

Getting to Tomb of Giants without a lamp is tough... I didn't come across one in the Catacombs and I'm not going back through it.

Looking forward to Nito, looks like a fun (albeit frustrating) boss.

There's one down there as loot, very close to the first bonfire. The Necromancers in the Catacombs give one as a guaranteed drop (the last one will always drop one if none of the others have).

Other options: Cast Light (needs 14 INT, sold by Dusk and Elizabeth).

Just beaten Bed of Chaos which was easy but damn annoying... that sweep.
I also made the mistake of not
killing Solaire
before doing the boss so now I have to warp allll the way back to Daughter of Chaos to proceed...

Did Quelaag on my first go being human by summoning the npc. It was pretty easy with someone else taking the agro. Had a brief trip into Demon Ruins to grab some awesome looking armour near the Ceaseless Discharge, and then back up to firelink where I've chatted with a weird talking monster thing.

Think I'll head to the blacksmith and see if the door near onion head is open as not sure where else to go. I guess I could try new londo but the ghosts wrecked me last time.

Did you get a cut scene after killing Queelag?

Is the PC community dead? Did most of players migrated back to DS3? I'm playing a same level character in Anor Londo before the Londo Smash Bossfight and I'm only see 1-2 white signs, as opposed to 13-15 signs back in August.

In a marathon session I threw myself at Grave Lord Nito until I figured it out.

His behavior's a bit iffy. Times when his very first move would be that undodgeable underground attack, almost immediately upon loading. Meanwhile there are those damned giant skeletons who you have to work hard to not aggro or else the fight becomes very difficult to manage, meaning you have to not run at Nito too fast at the very beginning or you get into their range, let him come to you, but get close enough that you get away from that screaming underground attack.

The rhythm of the battle really determines how good a time you're going to have. Like when he does his AoE attack right after killing the skeletons with a big slash, it's a waste of a run because the skeletons will recover as he goes through the cooldown. If you get him to do the right sequence of attacks, it can almost be an easy battle where he's constantly keeping the skeletons suppressed for you and you just have to be wary about aggroing the giants. In the wrong rhythm you're just caught between his big attacks and the pecking of the skeletons.

In triumph I took the souls and got myself enough DEX to wield the Silver Knight's Sword, which I took to Andre to start upgrading and now have a quick-moving weapon that does over 200 damage per hit (my Halberd was just shy of 200 but it is more situational).

Now idk. New Londo maybe.

I really, really hate Ornstein and Smough.

Fifteen deaths and counting
Focus on Smough first, use a weapon with a bit of reach. Use lock-on (which can be a hindrance for some bosses but makes S&O much more manageable) and always stay moving during the first phase. Watch for the openings and peck away.

For Super Ornstein use a short range and fast weapon, fight him in at point blank range. He really only has one attack that can get you when you're right at his ankles, the AoE thunder slam, but if you're not getting hit by anything else you can tank those.

Eagle Shield helps for this fight, a wooden shield is a bit better at shaving off lightning damage.

If you have the Lightning Spear from Sen's Fortress it makes quicker work of Smough.

I tried to fight Ornstein and Smough for the first time today. After a few attempts, the fight isn't quite as hard hard as I was anticipating (though I haven't beaten them yet!), considering how infamous it is. They're fairly susceptible to sorcery (well, I guess most bosses are...) and they tend to get stuck behind pillars and each other, which makes the fight a bit more manageable. Anyway, that's my take after trying them five or so times. Let's see if I'm still as chipper when I'm 40 attempts in, LOL.

I've also got a question: in the room before O&S,
I used an item to invade the world of the murderer of the fire keeper, and managed to defeat him. Can I use this to restore the bonfire in Firelink Shrine somehow? I already went back there, but didn't see anything new.

go up to the bars where Anastacia was for a prompt to restore her and the bonfire.

Finally finished NG for the first ever time! Really weirdly proud of myself haha. I didn't parry at all during the game but learning to parry Gwyn was pretty simple - did him in less than 10 goes. Excited to try a new build on NG+

Really struggling with Sen's Fortress at the moment. My +10 axe takes about five hits to kill a snake and so I'm using my plus 3 pyro a lot. How can I deal with the snake on the second bridge that doesn't move when hit by an arrow? At the moment I'm just shielding and eating lightning while trying to dodge the swinging axes but it's pretty rough.

There must be a better way?

Best way to deal with Snakemen is to parry them, their moveset is made for it. If you need to use arrows, go for headshots, it does more damage and staggers them, you could also poison them in 2 or 3 arrows and let it take (Undead Female Merchant sells them). You can roll through the lightning attacks or block them, you could even equip to a wooden shield specifically to block them since wooden shields absorb more lightning damage.

Thanks. I tired parrying but I get hit every time. Is that because my timing is off or due to low stamina or a weak shield? I just can't get it to work.

This bit of the game sucks. A narrow walkway with swinging axes and a mob where you can't dodge due to no room. Having to just tank hits is not good design.

Yes definately just to do with timing. It can be tricky but once it clicks, you'll get it. It's a visual thing for me, but the best advice I can give is to hit L2 as their arm is coming down/forward.

The small shields like target shield and buckler have a longer window of parry frames that can be good for practice, but they also have way lower defense - risk/reward. I would practice on lower damage enemies in the Burg or Parish say since they won't one shot you like the Snakemen might.

Sen's can be frustrating on your first playthrough, but once you know the layout and can deal with the enemies you can be from top to bottom in about a minute. It's a fantastically tight and well designed area and tons of fun in pvp!

And just like that, it clicks.

Did some souls farming (jumped from level 53 to 62 with some focus on Dex for my Balder Sidesword) and I beat both Ornstein and Smough without summons. Ornstein went down quickly and Super Smough couldn’t hit me because I kept close.

Sweet, sweet satisfaction. Defeated Lautrec afterwards. Guess onward to Darkroot?

Having just beaten Gwyn I returned to NG+ instantly to try my hand with a heavier build (black knight halberd, Artorias set, artorias great shield) and I absolutely breezed through Asylum Demon (without lunging from above), Taurus Demon (without lunging from above), both Gargoyles (this caused me absolute hell first time round, had to do it with Solaire) and Capra Demon (again, it took me hours to even get through the door in my first playthrough) all first time.

I'm obviously HUGELY OP at this stage, at what stage of NG+ does it even out a bit?

Haven't played in a while, but I've got some long flights tomorrow so I think I should be able to finish my sorcerer run and start a new character.

So far I've played a straight strength build (great club) and a mostly straight int sorcerer (used the moonlight greatsword a little, but I think only magic on bosses). Any suggestions for a fun build for my third run?

4 Kings, if you're not using Havel's. Even so, that's the only really difficult part on NG+, just due to how the boss works. I suppose boss tail cuts would be awkward as well due to increased health, but I always do that in NG.

It doesn't really ever even out since the further you get into the game the less of a buff enemies and bosses get. O&S might give you some trouble and maybe 4 kings, but even they are pretty easy if you know how to fight them and have high enough damage to kill them quickly. It's not just that you are much more powerful relative to how enemies are more powerful. You're also much better at the game.

For me Nito is probably the boss that feels the hardest in NG+ compared to NG, because the skeleton adds can kill you very quickly if you are not careful. I usually resort to cheesing him by killing the skeletons with a Divine Weapon which trivialized the fight.

You could keep running NG cycles; though the difference between NG+ and NG++ is pretty small. In fact there's a bigger gap between NG and NG+ than between NG+ and NG+7 (after which the difficulty stops increasing).

I kinda lament that these games give you relatively little incentive for going beyond NG+ other than trophies / achievements. The games don't really change other than giving enemies more HP and damage and while later games reserve some of the more powerful rings for NG+, other than hardcore min maxers most people would rather just create a different build. Nioh is like a revelation in the sense in which it handles post-game content and mechanics,to the point that a lot of people believe that the game actually begins in NG+. The game really rewards you for investing in your character.

I think the first pic is where you pick up Power Within? From there walk back and there is a narrow wooden path down as well as a couple of ladders around. Take the path down in to a cave area with a regular grunt enemy and a larger ogre, down there is a ladder and the way to progress to the swamp below.

The second pic I think is the corner where there's a blowdart guy and that leads to the Eagle Shield on a buttress dead end. The whole otherside of where Power Within is the way out of Blighttown after you've gone down in to the swamp, they're close but not connected.

Hit the wall at Four Kings. Literally nothing works. Beatrice just makes it worse, can't find other players to summon. I'm getting triple or quadruple ganged before I get the first one of them down. Doing damage too slow with no way to increase it and no way to up my armor or shield (literally everything needs Twinkling Titanite now).

You win, fuck it. I suck.

If they are ganging up on you before you kill the first one then it's an issue of your dps being too low. Don't summon Beatrice ; she literally makes the fight more difficult since she contributes nothing and increases the HP of the boss by 50%.

What weapon / build are you using? Don't bother upgrading your shield or armor. Your focus should be on your weapon, which should be maxed out at this point. Your stats to which your weapons should also be in the 30s or so.

Eesh, my highest single stat is 24 at level 65-ish. I dropped off leveling Attunement and Res at 15 and Faith at 10, but everything else I've been keeping even. Never committed to a build. Currently a hodgepodge of armor that gets good def but keeps me nimble using Havel's Ring (which I traded out to the Ring of Favor and Protection because of the need to have the Abysswalker ring). Silver Knight Sword +2 is my weapon of choice, and I can't get it or anything else any higher because it all needs Twinkling Titanite.

I've read online that Pyromancy can help with this, but that would be kind of starting from scratch because I've never upgraded the hand for that. Or I could use the Iron armor to just go max Poise and try to tank.

That high-def fire spell would be helpful but the salesman seems to have moved on :-/.

Well, that's your problem right there and the reason you're not doing damage. Here you can see how different weapons scale as different stats are leveled up and what a dramatic difference it can make.

Also you can buy Twinkling Titanite from the Giant Blacksmith in Anor Londo, so upgrade your silver knight sword to +5 ASAP. And make sure you are investing in strength and mainly dexterity as your melee damage stats.

If you've already fought Seath it's very quick to use his bonfire to farm the clams outside the boss room, they drop Twinkling with a very high drop rate.

Can only echo Noema's advice - get your weapon to max asap, anything less is masochism. Because of your stats I would suggest just tanking the 4 Kings. Get Havel's or Stone Set armour, put the Grass Crest Shield on your back, forget blocking and dodging, just two-hand your weapon and get up in their face. Kindle Firelink up to 20 Estus and tank heal through their hits as needed. iirc the SKS can be buffed, so buy some fire resin from the Undead Female Merchant and as you land in the Abyss buff your weapon.

So after this bullshit zone that is the great hollow, I'm struggling at the begining of the giant's tomb, I just finally got how to use the lantern but these giant skeletons are brutal and quite hard to dodge given the cliffs all around.
Sigh...

Cheers! Don't know how long that would've taken to figure out on my own...

I managed to beat Ornstein and Smough after a few more tries. Ornstein wasn't too hard to defeat with the upgraded Titanite Catch Pole I had on me, and after that, Smough just got stuck behind a pillar and let me pick him off with long-ranged attacks. Very kind of him, but I imagine the fight gets pretty hard if you don't have any good long-ranged options.

Now to see what's behind those mysterious yellow doors...

Well, I'm tapping out - at least for now.

I got to Anor Londo, and while I don't even find the area super difficult (though those Archers have killed me a few times) - I'm just not really having much fun anymore. Area after area it's die, die, die, go back to where I was, go back to where I was, die again, etc. Of course I realize I'm saying nothing new about this game, but I think it's just taken me this long to realize I'm bored. I'm playing this game because I feel like I should beat it rather than because I'm having fun doing it.

Going to keep my save in case I change my mind, but there are too many other games I want to play right now to keep this up.

I also just feel like the game isn't really for me in a few ways. Any other game I'd say "I don't like a lot of hand holding" - but I find this game just doesn't really tell you "enough". I've no idea what my stats should be, what weapon I should be using, what stats IT should have, etc. I know that's part of the experience, but it's one of those things where I know I'd be having a much easier time if I just looked at a walkthrough, and I hate that sensation.

Definitely no reason to keep playing if you're not feeling it, and specially if you have other games you truly want to play.

No one should ever force oneself to play a videogame (unless one plays games for a living I guess).

Had a thought overnight to build Quelaag's Fury Sword which could help.

My thing is that I've neglected the RPG aspect of this and treated it like Monster Hunter: skills and power ups are cool but not game-making or breaking until high level play. Four Kings is where I reap the whirlwind on this thinking.

Thanks for the tip Noema on Twinkling Titanite.

Keep in mind that the Furysword requires Demon Titanite to be upgraded, which is harder to acquire than Twinkling. (can't be bought and must be farmed from the Titanite Demons, most of which do not respawn).

Also the Furysword is a Dex weapon, I don't know if you have invested in that.
