When does it become great? As a huge Darksiders fan, I was disappointed in chapter one. The exploration and puzzle elements seem very simplistic compared to the previous games. The combat is dead easy, and exploitable by walking backwards and shooting as Strife. The story is clearly a low budget affair, handled mostly through cartoon cutscenes. The game did not showcase many strengths in chapter one and it was not very fun to play imo.
Yeah, I think you've summed up my fears after watching a gameplay video. I too would like to know if it gets significantly better.

And why on earth can't you pick Apocalyptic, or even Hard straight away..

This game the next in the story? Should I play DS3 first?
DS3 is fantastic, play it.

Zim I was wondering if you could let us know what sort of settings the Stadia version is running?
1080p / 60fps or 1440p upscaled to 4k / 60fps.

We tuned it to run well on Stadia, but it is essentially high settings. What's crazy about Stadia, was testing it. It was so easy to boot up, people occasionally forgot it was on Stadia and just thought it was a local PC build.

Great work, yeah the insane boot times for Stadia games is fantastic

"Essentially high settings" is what I wanted to know! Awesome thanks! Good enough for me, Ill grab it on Stadia.

With how Stadia works, would it be easy enough to bump these settings up down the line when the servers are more powerful? Maybe in a few month, its 4k60 native, and ultra settings or something? Even as someone who owns a rad PC, and all the consoles, I am really interested in how Stadia works. Stadia has basically been flawless for me so far, its such cool tech.

Finished Chapter 1 (Twice) and boy, this game is something else. This is so much fun so far. I love the top down approach for DS. Can't wait for more!

I just finished Chapter one as well and I'm really enjoying it so far. This is the first Darksiders game I've played and I'm getting into the story far more quickly than I anticipated. I'm curious if this would be more enjoyable solo or trying to find someone to play with? In any case, if anyone wants to do co-op, just hit me up.

Genesis is the very first chapter of the whole serie. Its like the 4th or 5th time Im saying it on this thread, in order its Genesis > 3 > 1 > 2

I'm a bit iffy on your ordering of 1,2 and 3, though 1's timeskip between the first level and the rest of the game complicates things a bit. My impression was that it went: Genesis -> 1st level of 1 -> 2 and 3 in some order -> rest of 1. Since 1 ends with all the Horsemen being summoned to the apocalypse.

Yeah that can work too, you can go with Genesis > 2 / 3 > 1

Its kinda easier to understand 2 after being done with 1 tho. However Genesis > 3 is very much correct

Ok whoever designed this nightmare leviathan jumping puzzle in the void where you feel like you're basically going out of bounds and jumping on geometry you shouldn't be and the viewpoint makes it impossible to gauge the landing distance

I hope santa misses your house tonight :(

Got some new abilities to go back and clear an old chapter. Do I really have to clear the whole chapter again?

Should be live on Stadia and Steam now. Hope you enjoy y'all!

The game is fun but some hitches are ruining my experience.

I'm really tired of some UE4 problems across so many games.

- hitches when entering new zones ( ruined Darksiders 3 too)
- excessive blur even at high resolutions because bad configured AA
- game not using your selected resolution in fullscreen mode if you restart the game and the resolution is higher than native

Adicional bug: In local co-op mode, the second player character has no a blue silhouette when occluded by level geometry.

This is the best performing UE4 game I've played in a while. It runs absolutely flawlessly, maxed out at 1920x1200 on my old PC.

Many EU4 games suffer from minor stuttering, loading stutter etc., but not this one. Completely locked 60 fps with no stuttering whatsoever.
I honestly haven't seen a single spot that lacks polish up to finishing level 5.

Respawn's terrible Jedi game is a technical embarrassment in comparison.

Just noticed that the game costs $10 more on Stadia for some reason. Lame. Since I just bought the game in Stadia yesterday, I will refund it. Can't support these kind of practices.

Man Liam O'brien needs to voice someone in every game.

Standard console tax sadly.

If Stadia was a console, maybe. And even then, it's really only something I see with Switch, tho I do know it's present here as well for all consoles. I just can't support any game that does this.

That's what they see it as, console versions are all priced 10 bucks higher btw, that's why I said what I said.

Glad I checked thread of so. Was about to buy, but if not offering proper 21:9 I'll wait.
So no proper 21:9 ultrawide support for this currently? Players reporting it's super zoomed in which can allow you to miss secrets, get shot at/attacked from off-screen enemies, etc? I'll wait a bit if that's the case.

I just finished up chapter 6 this morning... I'm about 6.5 hours in. I've replayed 2 or 3 of the missions though to get some additional unlocks.

This game is really fun. I wish isometric/top down action games were way more common...

I've been trying for like 6 hours so far :(

How the character progression works?

I heard there is no level system, so it works similar than Darksiders 3?

You can buy new moves and passive upgrades using souls, with new ones available every other mission or so. You can upgrade your Health/Wrath by collecting fragments hidden in missions (which you can revisit and may need to once you get new abilities through the story).

There's also a big skill tree/sphere-grid that's new. It looks like this:

Desktop_Screenshot_2019.12.03___15.00.42.98.png

It's got some nuances, but to lay it all out: when you kill an enemy it has a chance to drop a "creature core" specific to that enemy type. Equipping this core in the skill tree will give you a passive buff. You can swap them in and out as much as you like to suit your focus. As you collect more of the same cores, they level up and the passive buff gets stronger (from level 1 to 3).

Cores are divided into 3 types: Attack, Wrath and Health. If you put a core into a slot of the corresponding type, you also get a bonus to that attribute. You can of course put them anywhere, but if the types mismatch then you won't get the attribute boost. There are also Wildcard slots which will always buff the attribute of the core slotted into it.

Bosses have cores as well which can be very powerful but the slots for these are more limited. Also some slots can only hold cores of a certain maximum level, so if you say put a level 3 core into a level 1-limited slot, then you'll only get the level 1 passive buff from it.

Is 21:9 support going to be fixed? I might just get it anyway to play on my 4k TV, but I would definitely buy it immediately if it had proper 21:9 support for my PC monitor.

Posting a little about DS3 here...

I decided I wanted to play 3 before this. It's been mildly entertaining but clearly a budget sequel with far less polish than the two previous games. Biggest problem is that the combat doesn't feel great and it wants you to do it a lot. I got to a boss fight that tried to ape the Ornstein and Smogg gimmick from Dark Souls and I was already not really enjoying it that much and I didn't even bother to attempt the fight, I just alt f4'd right out of the game. Dunno if I'll bother going back.

Someone said 3 is a better game than this. Anyone else wanna echo that? Because I'd rather just skip 3 at this point.

If it helps, for that specific fight

you only need to beat Lust, the moment Lust dies the boss fight ends.

In any case Genesis is a prequel/spin-off/whatever, so you don't really gain anything from playing DS3 beforehand. Genesis plays more like isometric DS1 with a dash of twin-stick shooter (in Strife's case).

Strife is so ridiculously OP for me at this point in the game.

Got the Grinner core that gives you two shadow clones and holds aggro while they're out, upgraded it so they both do full damage, the potion upgrades that give you health potions from health drops and the one that gives you 2 wrath pips when you pot heal, paired with the gun that spams health drops, you can just spam OP shadow clones that hold aggro and melt hoards while i keep distance and nuke them with static ammo. purposely let an enemy get a hit on me so i heal and fill my wrath back up. I got to wave 100 in endless and literally got bored and died on purpose to do something else.

Haven't even really touched War, he's just my backup if i accidentally get killed.

Ok, that "jump. float up to the shadow fountain, then hit 3 crystals in mid-air to activate a timed gate mechanism" puzzle in the Void is just BS. I can't do that with M+K

Finished up the game. Took me 16 hours.
Despite the game being isometric and many thinking it would be Diablo spin off, don't let that fool you. This is a proper Darksiders game in every major way possible.

- Stellar dungeon design.
- Satisfying combat with many additions and aguments to keep things fresh.
- Varied locations, enemy designs and encounter design.
- CO-OP gameplay without actually hurting the game design.
- Top Tier VA and Godlike soundtrack for Ori's composer, Gareth Coker
- The new horseman Strife couldn't have been better taged along with someone like War and they complement eachother narratively so much through the entire game.
- No dumb or pointless systems like loot, or any other ''we must shove RPG elements'' starter pack. There's only the creature core system which is a neat addition despite being a bit complicated to understand at first.

Airship Syndicate and Joe Mad absolutly nailed what that they did with flying colors. It's a fantastic addition to the Darksiders franchise and I can easily recommand it to everyone at it's price tag (30$) and a must play for fans.

This will def go down as one of the best games and pleasant surprises that I've played this year.

Yeah Strife is definitely the powerhouse in this game it makes some of the game alittle too easy and I hope he is adjusted more in the next game or hell not available at all.

The game is pretty great, but some of these timed jumping puzzles are designed by fucking sadists. I swear they did not playtest these on M+K. The way the camera pivots mid-jump making you waste precious factions of a second is rage-inducing.

War died in the Chapter 8 (decay) dungeon after failing one jump too many, and the game spawned Strife falling through blackness. Had to quit out of that level, because obviously there was no comeback from that.

same thing with that fucking void puzzle with the shadow fountain and 3 switches. Each time I hit a switch War gets carried off course by inertia and it's impossible to correct for it while maintaining aim. I had to stop playing otherwise I think I'd have broken my spacebar key.

My friend and I are having a great time. But co-op desyncs game states so often.

Sometimes when someone rejoins a game they come back to a black screen, until either they jump in a pit or they go through a door that has a camera change.
Sometimes execution animations desync and lodge the non-host in some level geometry and they get stuck, or fall through the floor.
Sometimes doors re-close on the non-host, or never opened in the first place, and the host has to re-open them.
Sometimes the non-host gets a first person camera. Yes, really (photo).
Sometimes the non-host's camera gets locked to a cutscene camera.
Sometimes braziers don't light for both people.
Sometimes jump pads don't launch the non-host.
Sometimes audio doesn't play for the non-host when enemies and NPCs bark.

It's still playable, and it's still a lot of fun. Just there's a lot more friction than there ought to be.

I also got the first person camera bug. My friend and I are loving this game but it's buggy as hell. We've run into several camera issues including the FPV camera bug, the camera being completely static and not following one of us, puzzles being unsolvable, key stuff not being able to be interacted with, certain UI elements breaking and not displaying (like creature core pop ups, or the score in the arena), occasional VA or SFX don't play or they play INSANELY loudly, entire functions and buttons suddenly not working (one time I couldn't double jump and all of my B functions wouldn't work).

It clearly could have used another couple months of polish, which is a shame because it's still a terrific game.

Oh, yeah, there's a handful of sfx that aren't mixed properly. Guessing they didn't get assigned a sound class (I believe that's the Unreal nomenclature... in Unity it's an audio mixer group). The logo at the start of the game isn't, and a couple of the executions aren't either. So they blow out your sound if you've turned down the master volume at all.

Also, there are a couple parts of the game that aren't translated to other languages. I was playing in French but the journal in the pause menu was written completely in English... a mistake I'm assuming.

I'm really struggling with running Darksiders Genesis well on an 8-core Intel Xeon, GTX 1080, with 12GB of RAM (this is using Shadow to stream).

With the same setup I can play Gears 5 at 4k/60fps with everything on Ultra, but despite sharing an engine I have to leave Genesis at 1440p with things on a mixture of high and medium to hit 60fps. Even with most settings turned down to their minimum, Genesis chugs at 4k.

I wouldn't mind, except 1440p looks really blurry. Aside from that I've encountered a few bugs such as door / travel prompts displaying but not registering button inputs, but nothing too major.

I'm still enjoying the game, and I'll deal with the lower resolution, but I was just wondering if anyone else had had any luck getting it run well at 4K? It sounds like the Stadia build is 1440p upscaled, so maybe I'm hoping for too much.

I ran it maxed out at 1440p/120fps with an 1080 TI/2700x with pretty much no major dips.

Tried it 4k and it does mantain like 75 average FPS.

You shoudn't struggle with either on a base 1080.

Huh, thank you. It definitely sounds like I'm missing something; 4k with everything on medium was averaging about 25fps, and 1440p is only tipping past 60fps when there's not much happening on screen. I'll see if there's a driver update.
