Yeah I think I'll go for Weapons too since I'm on hard, wanna try a horde I spotted. Is there a way to find the horde again?

If you don't remember then, no, you won't get a method to locate hordes for a long, long time. You will happen across plenty though.

However I'm guessing you saw the horde in the rail cars near the NERO checkpoint at the northern tunnel? It's probably the first one most players see.

Also how long am I locked out of bike stuff?
You aren't locked out, it just takes longer to build trust.

However I would just press on to the third camp instead of trying to build up trust at Copeland's. The third camp is a lot quicker to build trust with and you can get a lot of significant bike upgrades there.

Another reason to build up trust quicker with Tucker is that it's the first camp where you can unlock (weapon spoiler)
the machine gun (AKA Horde Killer). I had to keep an LMG I found in the world as my secondary weapon for a huge chunk of the game until I unlocked Level 3 at Tucker's.

Yeah, it was really frustrating to see that from @patrickklepek. So much of what he complains about is literally him not giving the game a chance to play out its conflicts. It comes across like someone reading the first third of The Great Gatsby and writing an essay to condemn it's uncritical display of opulent wealth. He complains about the Lisa story at a point where the game literally tells you you've only seen the first 17% or so.

Listening to the Waypoint podcast on the game was also extremely frustrating. He said a lot of things that are patently false, like that the game doesn't have hordes, and there is no bike customization. He even brings up the wedding scene to further dunk on the game, obviously completely absent of any knowledge of the context the game actually provides for the line. And that's totally ignoring his assertion that the game feels bad to play, which I would strenuously disagree with.

The problem isn't that he's critical of the game, it's that his critique is incredibly shallow and ignorant.

The wedding scene criticism really irks because 1) Its a Biker's wedding, 2) Deacon and Sarah's flashback relationship is very playful and teasing and 3) There is specific context to the actual line.

Yeah I saw one in rail cars at the checkpoint and another one around the infestation near tuckers. Do they just kinda stay around roughly the same area or move around the map?

That's good, thought you'd get locked out or something. I've got the first upgrade of everything on the bike but the engine I think so I'll focus on getting tuckers trust up then moving onto the next camp, thanks!

They stay in the same area. Most of the time they stay in a cave or other cover during the day and then come out at night. You can here them in the distance when you are close. They also have their own music cue.

Seriously? I am up to the mission just after this
just got done being betrayed by Skizzo and returned to whole 3rd camp up in flames
So if this is seriously only less than 50% that is awesome because I'm happy playing this atm and don't have any big upcoming games that I'm interested in.

Went back and finished every scrap of content I could - closest I've come to 100% completion of a game (missed some collectibles). I wish it just kept going, it's so fun!

Questions guys. I just got to:
where Deacon thinks Sarah is alive again
and it says "Advancing the story will lock you out from the Northern regions". This is only temporary, right?

80% of trophies obtained. Going for the platinum. Just to be sure, I can definitely finish hordes, ambush camps, etc., after finishing the game?

Game is a masterpiece.

My controller is gonna get me killed. Click the left stick and I start to run but then I don't. Just finished a horde and it took about 10 minutes and I ran all over the place, I swore the horde never decreased in size at all because it was so big.

Omg. This mission structure is asinine.

I finish a mission, have to drive back to turn it in, fast travel after loading up on gas, to accept another mission across the map. Get a call that that they want me again. Why on Earth could that not happen while I'm still in that camp?

Meanwhile, I just traveled half a tank of gas to mission that was me literally just saying sup to boozer, bit even in a cutscene. Meanwhile this game has him call me for a repetitive check in chat after every other mission, a dozen times already.

Good lord, the pacing of all this is just amateur.

Yes. You don't actually need to finish the hordes, though. You'll need to do some to knock out those last few skill points, but it doesn't take that many.

This game commits the same sin as the Far Cry games: the 'loot body' button is the same as the 'switch my milspec gun for the junk weapon the dead guy was using'.

Developers, stop doing this.

Yeah, after his remarks on Days Gone, it's going to be difficult for a while to take much of his critique seriously.

It also confirms to me my suspicions that with half of his thinkpieces, he intentionally warps the content of the game to fit a prefabbed narrative he wants to drive home to make it more clickbaity.

Yeah I like Patrick, but I agree. His stirring up controversy about "selling a girl into slavery" was frustrating after seeing it play out in the game. Like, yeah, that was fucked up, but that's the entire point of the scene! And it's acknowledged by the story later.

Has anyone unlocked the IPCA tech weapon yet? Fun to use? I'm at 13 of 18 but I've already done all the NERO research stations and checkpoints so I guess I'm just gonna have to go back through them all until I find the missing pieces.

So I would say I am quite far in (third camp and just saw the scene with Boozer when you bring back that box of antibiotics.

I love the game but I am also disappointed as no horde gameplay was so far part of any of the official missions. Of course I got occasionally ambushed by them on the road but since I don't feel like the game has given me the tools yet to fight them (where are my traps?) I was just running away.

I want to have moments like in the first E3 trailer where you have the option to run from enclosed spot to spot but so far nothing. I feel like this game would need a Resi4 mercenaries mode!

Game is a masterpiece.

I would recommend using a trophy guide, because there is one hidden trophy I never would have gotten without one.
Otherwise none of the trophies are missable and most of them can be obtained by playing normally.
Well done Bend!
Also appreaciate the trophy progress submenu!

This game commits the same sin as the Far Cry games: the 'loot body' button is the same as the 'switch my milspec gun for the junk weapon the dead guy was using'.

OMG yeah. The transition between the "loot corpse" and "switch weapons" prompts are also super unpredictable.
Sneaking helps a lot.

"Girl sold into Slavery!"
"You have to kill kids with baseball bats!"
"Bike runs out of gas all the time!"

Some of that shit major outlets/reviewers said about Days Gone is tabloid newspaper shit-tier journalism.

I know it's the case for me, but I suspect it's broadly becoming the case the games journalists are becoming less and less relevant.. And it's easy to see why. What a shit show.

Yup. Super happy the game is selling well despite all those hit pieces.
Gotta admit, I would have skipped it after reading the reviews. But a buddy of mine got it on PSN and since we gameshare... the game was free for me.

To me it completely undermines anything he and this site have to say about games in the future. It's some of the most ignorant commentary I've read in a long time. It's not just that I strongly disagree, but some of what he is saying is straight up false and he doesn't appear to have finished the game before laying the criticism on thick and ignorant. I think he already decided to dislike the game before even starting it up the first time.

There's really no point to tackle hordes this early (you still got ways to go). It's doable, but insanely hard.

Videogame journalism at his best...

For the record, I'm not angry at anyone if they don't like this game (or any game). That's their opinion and they're welcome to it -- I do however have a certain degree of disdain for reviews/articles that are either poorly reasoned or present false information, and for some reason we're seeing a lot of that with DG. The reviews are just out of wack, (my opinion!) especially if we consider the games that get high scores and how some of those have all the same issues of DG and worse.

Days Gone is a beautiful game with a lot of heart that I liked initially and loved after many hours. It's a game that's a bit of a slow burn and reveals some of its better aspects and delights after a lot of play and investment, and that's kind of rare-- And I also suspect that's why reviewers (in my opinion!) got it so wrong, since outlet reviews that must go up on day one are frequently rushed.

Again, that's obviously my take on it and my own speculation

Yeah the whole 'slavery' thing was odd to me. The way I saw it was that Deacon was genuinely trying to do what he thought was best for Lisa. Yes the camp was a pretty shitty place but it offered security, food etc.

Some of his criticisms are fair, or at the very least subjective. A lot of it though is just plain wrong. It's made clear that Marauders kill people they find to steal their items. Deacon specifically says this to himself when he comes across their camps. To imply that they're just "a bunch of people trying to get by" is ludicrous.

He also clearly doesn't understand who the rippers are, either through ignorance, a lack of understanding, or more likely after reading the review not playing enough of the game, quote "They, uh, do a lot of drugs and hurt people for… reasons?". The game clearly spells out why they do what they do.

If the author wants to argue that the game's not fun then that's fine, if he wants to argue that certain actions make him uncomfortable then that's fine, if he thinks the narrative is poor then that's fine. However, to publish opinions that are based on information that is just plain wrong is amateurish at best.

I'm really enjoying it because I like that kind of open-world Ubi style of game but I can easily understand people who view it as another example of a genre that hasn't progressed much for years. However the fact that his profile on VICE says that he wishes he were writing about movies explains to me why his review is so misjudged.

You're only about 20-30% of the way into the game. You can seek out the many hordes present in the world any time you want; they are already there for you to find and there's nothing stopping you, but I wouldn't recommend taking on the big ones yet. The story leads to several massive horde encounters later on and by then you will be much better prepared to tackle them.

It makes sense. Deacon at the beginning of the game is not a superhuman horde killing machine. But by the end of the game he has seen some serious shit. If you expected to be dropped into E3 Demo: The Game with none of the build up though, you're bound to grow impatient.

Dude, I'm not much farther past where you are now and I've had three horde encounters and managed to take them out (with some difficulty and a LOT of resources). The game has plenty of intense moments just waiting to be discovered if you take the time to explore and look.

Should start going after more of these now that I'm tooled up with the drum gun. I can make plenty of bombs etc so I should be ok.

I'm quite interested to go back to the early one where they're in a train car above a Nero checkpoint. I imagine that'll probably be a cakewalk now!

Yeah, I love how it's all there from the beginning if you just take the time to explore. It allows for some really unique experiences since the hordes move around after dark to feed and drink. I remember the first time I ran into one in the wild; the sun had just set and I was hiking around scavenging for supplies up in the hills above Crazy Willy's Truckstop when I heard 50-100 freakers in the distance just wandering down the hillside. I busted out my binoculars and watched them for a minute but then I was like fuck that, I'm outta here.

Thanks guys that makes it indeed exciting to keep on playing also a WTF regarding that fact that despite so many hours I am apparently still in the early hours 😦

Regarding the chance to tackle hordes now: what I wanted to have is stuff like where you can barricade yourself in a house, shoot some of them through the planks until they get through and then you have to escape to the roof and so on. I didn't see yet anything that would remotely allow stuff like this. Thus my reference to Resi 4 mercenaries mode.

And that's the game wrapped up. Got the platinum and waiting for the DLC.

The game is definitely a strong Goty contender for me.

I'm trophy level 20 and never had a platinum before as I simply don't care and haven't got the time to be grinding games for them.

However, Days Gone is my first platinum and it shows how much I enjoyed the game (and the plat is fairy easy compared to others) despite some minor issues here and there.

I have no doubt Bend will be allowed to do a sequel. I can't imagine how good it will be on the Ps5 due to graphics and Bend's gained experience/ feedback from the 1st one.
