Lmao this post is essentially satire as far as I'm concerned.

The themes you talk about are like creative writing lessons for 10 year olds level. Not the pullizer quality some of you are talking like it is.

10 year old level and somehow still over your head. Nobody said it was pulitzer (spelled correctly for your reference) quality, but compared to the narrative of many games out there today, it requires more from the player than watching a movie scene and having everything spelled out for you. This is a game made for the long haul, and if you don't want to hang around to let it play out, then that's your choice. You don't get everything spoon fed to you, and many plot points take a very long time to resolve, but in my opinion it added to the payoff.

If someone is already 25 hours into the game and the story hasn't "gripped" the yet, than it's a reflection of poor narrative/story direction for the game. You shouldn't have to focus on "subtle" one off lines or analyze facial expressions to satisfy your hunger for a gripping storyline. That's just plain poor writing

Those things you mentioned should be compliments to over arching storyline, to where you're already clinging to things and these little tidbits further enhance the story more - not the opposite.

I haven't played this game but there is a very clear divide on the story of this game and how long it takes until "it picks up" - to me that's just poor game direction. 25 hours is a sufficient amount of time to come to a conclusion about whether you think the game is actually good or not

The game gave me enough to keep me engaged even in the beginning hours. I'll agree that the back end of the game is much more story driven, but it's not like you have 25 hours of nothing, then they're like "here's the plot". The game spends a lot of time setting up the world and the characters at play, then around the third camp, they take everything you've been experiencing so far and crank it up to eleven. It's not for everyone, but it's not the horrible garbage that Mikebison is playing it off to be.

The story and characters are absolutely top notch but I absolutely see many people dropping the game early because of the slow start. They could have cut a bit from the beginning and it would have helped a lot imo. I urge people to just push through as it gets 1000x better once you reach the third camp. It's like someone flips a switch.

So i have happened upon a possible game breaking bug.

The first mission with the coronel, after doing the check up, hes talking to deacon while going up a slope, and i think he's supposed to enter something, but the textures wont load and he just walks against a wall for like 5 mins.

Reloading the game, the mission or a save before, nothing fixes this issue. Anyone came upon something like this playing?

I haven't had any game breaking bugs so far, but plenty of small things which resolve after quitting and restarting the game.

- Audio died out
- The 'instant kill' marker that you can get if an enemy has grabbed you got stuck on screen even after that moment was done.
- One instance where one specific house I entered had everything invisible and loot items were hovering in the air
- and my personal favorite, one time I was riding the bike and the nail-bat just spawned in deacon's hand (instead of his back), so it looked like Deacon was riding the bike while holding the bat in one hand. Kinda looked badass.

etc, nothing game breaking so far though.

You're not getting it. I don't think it's bad because these junior themes are going over my head, I get it, angry bike man is angry at the world, learns to not to as angry. That's bog standard character development. You're the one using it as an example of the writing being top class. When I'm reality, it comes across like an angsty teens English assignment.

This game has one of the most authentic portrayals of adults in adult social situations I've seen in games.

I had the corrupt-save-power-down thing last night. Was able to fully recover and save over the corrupted save successfully, but yeah that sucked.

You know, I think it is fair to say "the story gets good" that far in. We do it with TV shows all the time.

Yeah, the first 1-2 seasons suck, but then it's great! <- That's considered Normal.

And you're not actually getting 25 hours of Story in those first 25 hours, to be fair. That far in in this game really isn't that much story. And yes, it greatly picks up and gets better and I think it's okay that it does. Not every good story starts bang out of the great strong whether it's a book or a movie or TV show and many truly do get better and better.

The game is much bigger than Deacon. If you continue with the game you'll see that one of the takeaways is that not everything revolves around Deacon and the world is much bigger than his problems. Again, nobody said this was masterclass writing, but it's far from shit. Finish the game and form an opinion, or drop it before it properly develops. It's up to you if it's worth your time. I'd never want someone to play a game they're not enjoying.

this. i think the third camp should have been the second camp. the first two camps are pretty terrible.

i love the character interactions in the third camp even for characters that you are supposed to hate. its great writing. the only problem i have with it is that its super inconsistent ('ride me like your bike' lol) and the voice acting on the bike is trash.

otherwise, the story is better than 90% of the games out there. just comparing it to games released this year, are we seriously saying that DMC, RE2, Anthem, Metro and Seikiro have a better story?

It's no RDR2 or even God of War, but it has plenty of great moments.

Honestly, Tucker and that first Truther camp could have been a single area with opposing struggles instead of making it 2 unique camps.

The first stretch of the game (until you get to Lost Lake) is very generic and I can understand how people will get put off by it.

Is there a bug in regards to saddlebags not working? I rolled the credits last night and went around working on some hordes only to find my saddlebags were glitched out when I ran out of ammo in the middle of one.

yeah honestly I don't think anything about the writing has been cringe worthy, even the wedding scene if you play the rest of the game makes sense why she says the line and is consistent with the characters.

You really have to pay attention to the things Deacon says to a lot of other characters in the beginning to how he is by the end of the game. He gives a shit about people now. He kind of always had a morale code specific to the MC and his brothers, but other people especially IRON MIKE, Rikki, the guy from Diamond lake show him that those days are gone and these people living in this world are the people you need to start caring about not just the ones you use to ride with.

why does this remind me of the plot of a sesame street episode? :) ...

This. That's all I've been saying.

yeah the first 2 camps are set up to get you used to the games world and systems, but all of that could have been condensed into 1 camp with 3-4 hours probably chopped to keep the player more engaged with the story once you get to the areas where the story really picks up. This would have also likely led to you having more trust and good upgrades faster and feeling a bit more powerful to deal with the world. I think for me the first 2 camps only took me about 12 hours, maybe 15 at most, so the slog wasn't as bad as for those who are taking 25 hours until they leave those areas.

I personally don't really even buy the slavery work camp thing. I'm no farmer but I doubt working a farm requires as much work as the game seems to suggest considering there's not fields and fields of things growing. It was a narrative the game tried to create of these slavery camps but I'm like how much Fucking work is there to really do? You rake the ground, you sow seeds and you wait. I mean there's so few people in those camps anyhow. It was sorta weird
They aren't working just a farm they are trying to create trenches and wells and an irrigation system from what I understand. Also note that the camp is run by an old prison warden. So her context for hierarchy and pecking order is from the perspective of a prison.

So yeah she's a real bastard, but it makes sense in the context of who she is and what she came from.

what was weirder was eventually checking out iron mike's farm, &
seeing skizzo running it in pretty much exactly the same way :) ...

Big difference is I'm not shelling out $60 to watch/power thru the first 2 seasons of a TV series to get to the "good seasons"

And I agree with your last point but what it sounds like to me is poor game direction - they should have cut parts of the game instead of keeping it bloated. Specifically in the early parts of the game

I just finished the game. I also got the platinum and some message from Sony saying that I will receive my pre-order items just 20 minutes before finishing the game.... anyway. I loved every bit although the story was a bit toooo long, but everything paid off in the end. Everything has an explanation and thats what I like.
So I know that Brian had his team, but did they go rogue on NERO and how did he or the group got infected or did something else happen? Is everybody at Nero like him did I miss some stuff?

I'm only about 5 hours in so far but I really love it.

Bugs are the only thing that get in the way of the experience. It feels like I can't go 10 minutes without seeing something weird.

I was in some infested zone last night and there was a drifter being attacked by freakers. Except she wasn't animated, and wasn't able to move. I killed the freakers and tried to see if she would react but she was frozen in time. I performed an assassination animation on her, but she was still frozen.

In the end I just left her there. She would bleed when I shot her, but never die or move.

5 minutes later in the same area, I'm running away from a larger group of freakers, around 10 of them. I jump off a ledge and they try to follow. Except, instead of following, they're running in the air.

Stuff like that harms my experience fo the game. It's easy to get used to, and just move on, but it's hard to stay immersed when stuff like that is happening all of the time. It feels like one of the games I see in my office, 3-6 months prior to release.

Did you download the latest patch? I didn't have those problems at all. Only a few after being over 20 hours in the game. And at 60% into the game the framerate was unbearable on my PS4Pro.

Tucker's camp
from the mission anecdotes, the ambiant dialogue in the camp, etc shows that that she's pretty abusive to those who stay in the camp, working them very very hard and has very spartan punishment if you don't do your work, A lot of people attempt to run away from there.

Iron Mike's camp
also expects people who stay there to work, but in principal, they also try to be accommodating of people who can't pull their weight and try to divert them to do other things to help out if they can't do other task well.

Hmm, I've had two hard crashes recently where it crashes in the middle of a manual save. :/ Both times it actually corrupted the save data, but thankfully I keep multiple saves and don't lose much progress with all the autosaves. I need to force boot the PS4 with the power on button on the console itself, and then it checks the HDD and gives a crash report for CE-36329-3.

Is this a known problem or should I be wary of my Pro giving up?
Yes, it's rare but performing manual save can trigger a hard crash. I would avoid it until there's been a patch addressing the issue. Happened to me once near the end of the story after consistently manual saving throughout the game. Quicksave at the bike has been working fine. I've only risked a few manual saves since then to save some hordes I might want to rerun.

Not sure how far you are into the game but if that is the only thing you are taking away from the story then I really don't know what to say. There are so many threads being sewn throughout the story the more you play. I feel like it does characters better than most open world games. Everyone has a purpose and I understand their motivations, and most of them are somehow interconnected into the broad story until the very end.

It's really weird reading about people getting lots of bugs. I've put a ton of time into the game and explored most of the map (I'm in the late game, dunno how much is left). I've seen one biker stuck in a tree as a still, non-interactive object and I've seen two floating items inside a house. That's it in terms of bugs. Then of course there's some frame rate issues when riding fast on the bike in the late game, but other than that my experience has been pretty much bug free.

Feels like every time I go to camp someone walks through the floor and glitches about like they're rogue from x-men.

I can't imagine spending 25 hours with something I didn't enjoy, honestly.

If you don't like it a game in the first 5 hours, you're only going to like it even less, forcing yourself to play something you don't like for another 20 hours.

Because I would like to be able to say I gave it a fair shake before any critiques. Lots say it's a slow start. Get to camp 3. Blah blah. But yeah, top to bottom the game is dull imo.

I can't imagine the people saying it gets better at camp 3 truly hated it when they started.

I'm only just at camp 3, but I liked camp 1 and 2 also. I like Deacon, Boozer and Sarah, I think that helps a lot. If you don't like, or relate to the characters, perhaps that makes the narrative much less appreciable.

Finished all the hordes. The burnout apocalypse trophy is infuriating.

Way I did it was to do donuts by offering a slight angle turn and holding the button to let the back end go out, then the trophy popped after adding in nitro. not straight away though, actually at the 2nd attempt - my angle was crap the first time and I hit a tree. Before I attempted it I put the worst tyres on as suggested by someone in this thread.

Thats is just the way it is with open world I only encounter a few bugs in all my hours of playing.
