this. i think the third camp should have been the second camp. the first two camps are pretty terrible.

i love the character interactions in the third camp even for characters that you are supposed to hate. its great writing. the only problem i have with it is that its super inconsistent ('ride me like your bike' lol) and the voice acting on the bike is trash.

otherwise, the story is better than 90% of the games out there. just comparing it to games released this year, are we seriously saying that DMC, RE2, Anthem, Metro and Seikiro have a better story?

It's no RDR2 or even God of War, but it has plenty of great moments.

I feel tuckers camp should have been cut copeland at least is present throughout the game

Had such a cool moment. It was night, was trying to figure out how to get on this cliff. Hear some freakers and thought they were after me. Then noticed it was a small group in fact running after a wolf, not me. Took me by surprise. But yeh then one of m spotted me, and hell broke loose. So so good and intense.

Not sure how I feel about fuel. Dont mind it yet, but can see it getting annoying later on. Right now, it makes you explore the world in a natural manner. So props.

I only attempted it once, but ran out of stamina pretty quick. Just got to the second camp.
Use the terrain to your advantage climb and run over objects, down hills etc. slows them down and lets you lose them if you need a breather for a second

Finished the game last night (credits, not the secret ending) and it's my GOTY so far.

Well done Sony Bend! Now get me my sequel asap
Get that secret ending its worth it sort of reshapes the whole game imo

Just beat the game. I'm pretty close to a platinum. Just need to get one camp to trust 3 so I can get the trophy from nitro 3. I liked the game but I can see the low scores. Aside from the horde mechanic, everything it tries to do is pretty mediocre.

There's a good story there but it goes on for 10-15 hours to long. The story picks up at camp 3 but that like 8 hours into the game. Then after camp 3 the story gets bad again in the next region as your stuck doing fetch quest for everyone until the endgame starts and the story picks up again.

I didn't get to much bugs but we're already on patch 1.07. So they were there. Bend even somehow broke the game more with patch 1.06. Luckily they took it down before I installed it. It seems to be selling well so I wouldn't mind a sequel on next gen hardware. In the sequel they should introduce smaller hordes earlier in the main story instead of saving them for endgame. I'm at the post and you're post game is literally horde farming.

I would give it a 7.5.

OK, looking good now (had to change a setting on my LG TV after an update). I just had to beat a few zombie children to death. Fuck.

If you fail to take out all of the speakers, yes.

I found out I missed one the hard way.
I think that's the one where I missed one speaker. Only 10 or so freakers appeared, but a couple of breakers helped me with that. I think I also killed the screamer just in time.

Are there a lot of (easy to miss) speakers at that checkpoint?
You got the typical speakers + two on lightposts, one of those is outside of the checkpoint, just follow the power lines.

For people who completed the game. Should they stay in the same city/area, expand or move to a different part of the country?

I'd hope they'd stay in the same region. They're based out of Bend and we don't get enough PNW games. We get tons of games about places like California, New York, Japan, etc. They did such an amazing job on the environment likely in large part due to their local familiarity with it. There's tons of wonderful environments to work with up here too.

Plus it sounds like California would just be *completely* gone lol.

And well:

One of the Nero conversations/logs says everything east of the Mississippi was gone in 2 days.

Yeah I've been doing that recently as well. Doing anything at night is stressful
Honestly never had an issue with that night never felt stressful or anything but then again i found a superior mace mid game that decimated them fast so freakers were never a threat long as it was not a horde for me.

Tucker's camp
from the mission anecdotes, the ambiant dialogue in the camp, etc shows that that she's pretty abusive to those who stay in the camp, working them very very hard and has very spartan punishment if you don't do your work, A lot of people attempt to run away from there.

Iron Mike's camp
also expects people who stay there to work, but in principal, they also try to be accommodating of people who can't pull their weight and try to divert them to do other things to help out if they can't do other task well.

Yeah even Skizo isn't as bad as Tuck when it came to the workers. When Boozer was late he expected him to make up the lost hours but didn't punish him otherwise.

I know many may absolutely hate it but how would you guys feel about maybe a co op option if they have a sequel. I haven't finished the game so no idea how it ends but would it be possible to travel this world they built with a partner?

Hell, even if it was just for hordes.

Online co-op horde mode would be fantastic

This is a good start too

I was riding up in the mountains and got hit by a screamer earlier, then boom! Horde out of nowhere. Could have gone badly but they just happened to get themselves jammed up beside a gas truck lol... worked out pretty well in my favor.

You can have XP numbers pop up onscreen in real-time?

How did I not know this. It's not on by default.

Just reached the fourth camp and did the first mission there. Kinda starting to burn out tbh. It's a long ass game. How much do I have left?

Anyone check out the screenshots accompanying the trophies? They're fantastic! Not the usual randomness or blank-screen type stuff, some thought was put into when they actually trigger.

Visually I think the very first area, Copeland's forest is the most impressive. It's so lush with all the trees and foliage, especially when the fog rolls in. Nothing really comes close to that spectacle for the rest of the game except maybe the towns.

I'm absolutely not doing that. If you think playing a game for 25 hours and it not being good means I should continue on, then you're mad. There's no way the quality of that writing suddenly gets better. It's so fucking cringeworthy. It's not about me not seeing the themes of the writers or not giving enough time to see Deacon's arc, its just plain bad.

I'll disagree about the writing quality, but no one is saying you can't bail after 25 hours if you're not having fun. That's fine. You didn't enjoy it, the story didn't grab you. No quarrel. But there's a difference between that and deciding to make a bunch of ignorant claims about various plot points and characters based on an incomplete understanding of the material. I never finished the Red Badge of Courage, but I know that means I don't have a basis to criticize the themes and character arcs in full. And yet, for some reason certain writers think that's totally normal for games. It's a shitty attitude, and diminishes the form to act like that's acceptable.

I actually find the story and characters to be surprisingly good. Better than what I expected (I expected straight up garbage).

If you haven't finished the game yet I don't think you have room to pass your opinion off as objective truth.

Progress: Crystal Lake

The story has taken a weird turn from Sons of Anarchy to something like 28 Weeks Later. Doing some missions for Sarah. I was hoping either Deacon or Sarah would show more emotion after their initial meeting, once they are alone.

The missions now are starting to give a shit ton of XP and I'm gaining new levels after every two or three on average, which is fantastic.

Also managed to gain enough trust to pick up the Chicago Chopper. HOLY SHIT this gun is awesome. I took down a horde near the south-east of the map using just the chopper and maybe a few pipe bombs and 1 ammo reload from the bike.

I ended up spending a lot of my saved bounties and animals on the camp with the gun and kinda neglected the other one in the region which has all the top-tier bike upgrades. Now just hunting animals and gathering plants while driving everywhere so I can save up enough money for the bike upgrades.

You know what.. after playing more.. I take that spoiler comment back. The characterization for these guys is aaaaaaaaaaaal right. The game just seems to take a sweet time getting to it.

Progress: A ways into Crystal Lake missions

Sarah and Deacon are a good couple, just got done with their lab mission and the subsequent cabin-sex scene. I think it's OK for you to stare at your wife's ass Deac ;)

Although I did blurt out laughing as the immediate next camera cut has cheery music which was straight out of a Viagra commercial you see on TV.

I'm pretty close to the end game, I can see hordes on the map now, and I have no idea how some reviewers can say that Deacon has no character development.

I mean he's putting rescuing Sarah secondary to helping the people at Lost Lake. Deacon from the start of the game would never have done this.

Holy shit that sawmill is no fucking joke.

And LOL at my dumbass missing a speaker on the NERO site even though people here warned me about it. Bend are some sly jerks for hiding that last one amongst some trees.

It didn't bring the horde down on me (I shut that generator down right quick) but I had two breakers AND two screamers to contend with. I am SO fucking lucky I was able to down both screamers before they spotted me.

Just being near that sawmill and seeing that massive horde for myself...that's one of the most unsettling things I've ever experienced in a game.
