No actually, I didn't?
I get they are all saying the gameplay is a bit tedious and I wonder if or how much that's going to change when other players have made the world easier to navigate.
"It does nothing new" on the other hand just sounds conflicting with the facts we have, unless in context it was something like "(after 10 hours) the game does nothing new", as in you keep doing the same things.
Are people really expecting this to land in the 70s or is there a meme I'm missing?
This will be 90-something for sure. Sony wouldn't be letting the embargo drop that early if they weren't totally confident, and Shu and co obviously know when to be confident.
darn it! I never pre-order, but did this time since I got a nice (trade-in) deal.
Don't think the game is gonna be bad, far from it. Just not to my liking probably if it's indeed repetitive deliveries.
May aswell enjoy the ride lol :P
agreed. everyone thrilled by the idea of a game consisting in large part of extended treks through barren wilderness will be delighted. everyone scratching their heads over the idea that a game consisting in large part of extended treks through barren wilderness is somehow supposed to be entertaining will continue to do so...
i'm thinking that when it comes to death stranding, it simply is what it appears to be...
Please do.
One guy shits all over the game and said the minimum score will be a 8, even without finishing it. Even if the gameplay was a endless runner with only X enabled to jump, with this attention to detail, kojima crazy ass story, and the cutscenes it would get 90+. And we know Kojima handles gameplay well.
I'm really curious if next week we'll get hype tweets from the press? I still think the game will receive mostly high scores (Kojima is like a God in the game industry and i'll be shocked if reviewers have balls to score it lower lol), but TGS demo was confirmation that a lot of players most likely won't find it fun to play.
@vestan forced side missions are never fun. Another thing i hope is not true. --_-
none of those games were shrugged off. Jeff Gave horizon 5 stars. God of war got its own spoiler cast. And all of those games were praised and highlighted during game of the year talks.

Eh, now.
And we've seen reactions to TGS demonstration.
Some people liked it, some pretended to like it ("it's amazing! But he's trolling and there's more, obviously! Right?") and some hated it.
I really don't see a huge gameplay twist happening at all, that's what we're getting and I can see how a lot of people won't find it very exciting.
I'm not talking about their individual scores and what they thought of the game as a whole mate, I'm talking about strictly the gameplay in this instance. They've all spoken about the moment-to-moment gameplay and the general consensus is that exploring new areas is cool but the game has you revisiting areas you've been to often and that the gameplay itself can become tedious and repetitive (BT sections). I'm personally fine with this but I don't think everyone will be.
I posted what they thought on the previous pages if you want to have a look, spoiler-free.
If you're put off by these impressions, it's best to just wait for reviews.
We'll see i guess. I read leaked stuff and at this point idk to whom to believe. Shirrako is legit tho, he has access to early copies. That said - Era servers won't be able to handle the traffic if this receive <90 scores. Hype is through the roof, many people on this forum had their goty awards ready six months before release lol.

What is a score if not an impression then? Again I also wouldn't call their opinions "general consensus" if one views the game as a 5 and the other an 8. Clear a difference of taste and standards exists between these two reviewers.
It's actually really strange how adamant people are on treating these 3(?) impressions as the open and shut of it.
Y'all gotta stop putting all your eggs into the baskets no one ever asked for. Positive or negative, it's all fluff until November 1st, as far as critical reception is concerned. Then, on November 8th, we get to decide for ourselves!
Death Stranding More spoiler free leak impressions
I'm just gonna put everything under one big mega post since I've been posting 'em in this thread over the past few hours but I understand not everyone caught em. Take these however you want but they aren't the end all, be all. I'd still wait for reviews.
Reminder this is all [Spoiler-Free]. The person who I got these impressions from wants to remain anonymous so you just have to take me by my word. If you want, you can ask Lannisters1798 if this is legit, he'll back me up.
Regarding killing enemies:
If you kill an enemy, 48 hours after death they'll go into necrosis and after that they will voidout, making a fresh BT and a crater. This applies to any enemy that is killed with a gun meaning if you kill an enemy, you HAVE to dispose of their body by taking them to Chiral Crematoriums located high in the mountains and burn their body. The reason they're so high up is because Chiral Smoke is dangerous to go over a city which can cause Timefall.
Impressions #1:
Things happen in Skyrim, BoTW, RDR2 and HZD during your travels. Not much here though. My general impressions: I like the story, visuals and music, basically the whole package outside of the gameplay. Is it an acquired taste? Maybe, but I don't think so. There's only so much walking before it gets old. Motorcycle is cool, I love it but the terrain is not friendly for it
Impressions #2
There are some good memorable missions early on, deliveries that show a connection between people. He liked it a lot. Gameplay might either be your cup of tea or something you hate entirely, depending on what exactly you were expecting with this game. He wasn't expecting much outside of hours of walking, he was right that it's pretty much what you do and thus it doesn't really appeal to him much.
Some more on the general gameplay loop:
It felt tedious. Sam hitches up on a lot of tiny rocks so it breaks the flow here and there, but it's cool to set up ladders and use ropes. Even more cool to see stuff left by people. The walking makes it tedious, timefall are essentially the stealth moments, a lot of the time ur screwed if ur driving cause the weather damages it.
Shirrako Impressions #1
Impressions #3
I wouldn't say the gameplay is the issue. It's the extensive padding done with the walking.
Shirrako Impressions #2
Shirrako Impressions #3
- Pacing is way off. The story is interesting but there's too many gaps in-between. If you don't play this game often you'll forget what happened before the next cutscene happens. Death Stranding is basically 1 hour of cool shit but 4 hours of delivering packages to NPCs
- Open-world is more interesting than MGSV but it has the same drawbacks
- It's fun when you explore new land but when the game asks you to drive back 5km just to deliver a package to a place you've been to before you're like "fuck off"
- All the safe houses look exactly the same, they have the same exact building you enter to connect and all the resting spots are 100% copy and pasted, they're all the same
- The start of the game is a bit of a chore at some times
- The game is not as good as RDR2 or God of War, but it's different. The focus is cooperation and exploration. If you're expecting a third person stealth action game then you're gonna want to refund.
Regarding Side Missions:
Side missions get forced onto you as part of the story
Bit of conflicting information from leaker 1 and Shirrako I think.
Leaker one said something like 30 hours to finish the game including 10 hours of cutscenes and 3 side missions completed.
Shirrako on the other hand is saying it is a super long game where the cutscenes are spread so far between long gameplay sessions that you forget the story. Also mandatory side missions

Worth mentioning he never confirmed the cutscenes length, that was just some dude piggybacking off of him, he just said that it was 30% of the game and that the game was completed in 33 hours with no side missions on normal
But yeah, pretty sure Shirrako is 9-10 hours in so I'd imagine he still has a ways to go.
They will have done extensive internal testing and mock reviews for a title as different as this that they have been referring to as "genre-defining" for a long time now, to come to the conclusion of whether it's smart to let people release their impressions a week early or let them post them a day before people commit to buying it.
People who liked the main gameplay loop of exploring in Vanilla No Man Sky will probably have a blast playing DS. I just hope the main story is good, but I can already see the same tricks Kojima used to pad MGSV being employed here.

The issue is that people are taking these impressions at face value and making judgements too hastily. It's okay to be skeptical but I don't think now's the time to be coming to conclusions on whether the game is bad or not. I'd wait until embargo lifts and reviewers start talking about the game to start coming to any sort of definitive conclusion. Even then, the best case scenario would be to probably play the game for yourself and see if you like it. Could always rent it.
