I think folks are getting antsy with Super Tuesday coming

Odds that we’ll have a thread with “[See Staff Post]” on or after Tuesday?

Do we want to play the game of selecting tweets from the supporters of a candidate as representative of his whole base? Either way, it's clearly a reaction of Warren Twitter being fed up with Sanders people telling them their candidate should drop out.
Warren has not won a single state, isn't projected to win even in her own state and has no path to victory. Bernie supporters telling Warren to stop attacking Sanders and drop out is not the same as backers of the 3rd/4th/5th place candidate telling the front runner candidate to drop out.

this doesn't seem to be supported by reality, Bernie supporters love Warren and were happy to support her when she was surging. it was the most united progressives have been this cycle. once Bernie started surging you saw the divide rear its head aided by Warren's shifts in campaign strategy
The poll is kind of just another example of the twitter is not reality divide. It doesn't actually answer the accusation, which is pretty easily borne out by digging up exampoles of the discourse at the time.

You can say that it doesn't matter, but I don't think you can say that a lot of online Bernie supporters didn't turn outright vicious.

ANYWAY- the thread is for discussion of the primary, not discussion of the discussion of the primary. That's too many layers.

This thread has a staff post in it and I'd recommend you go take a look.

did bernie's chances realistically fell after SC? i was kinda assuming he got it, but there are some people out there talking like biden got the frontrunner spot back
That’s going to be the narrative people who really don’t want Sanders are going to be pushing. It’s not surprising, but we’re also not safe to assume he has this in the bag. It’s not over until it’s over.

If Biden keeps Bernie's delegate lead to around a 100 after Tuesday IMO its going to end up a nailbiter.

Bernie supporters are completely blind to the fact that no one wants to be fucking harrassed on Twitter for supporting someone else and see their favorite candidate being told to drop out constantly. It's not like these people are out there making measured arguments as to why Warren shouldn't be in the race. People grow tired of that shit and sometimes they react, it's only natural.

As long as we're doing the Twitter thing, just go through Warren's official profile and look at the comments on every single Tweet she posts. Pretty cool.

we will have to wait and see on Tuesday Night if the Biden bump is significant,
safe to say that he is going to bag the ST Southern states and probably could tie Texas and remain viable in California

I'm saying that turn happened when Bernie was surging and the accusations of sexism happened

when Warren was surging it was all good, you got the feeling we were all gonna walk hand in hand to the end

I'm just correcting the timeline that was presented, not saying that there wasn't a divide or there hasn't been nastiness proliferated by both groups of supporters generally dredged up elsewhere and brought to our doorstep

Warren is a prime contender for a "Top 10 anime betrayals" compilation at this point.

Back when she was at her peak and was thought to overtake Bernie and maybe even become the frontrunner, the general sense I got from Bernie supporters (including myself) was that they would gladly support her as a second choice. Yeah, she was a capitalist, and definitely more moderate than Bernie, but she was clearly a viable alternative for lefties like myself should Bernie falter - the only alternative, really. I can't speak for anybody else with certainty, but if Bernie and Warren's results were reversed, I would definitely be advocating for Bernie to drop out either now or after ST and endorse Warren. And if he decided to keep running to either block Warren or bet on a contested convention like she's doing, I'd call him out hard.

I had the impression that the reverse wasn't as true for a chunk of the Warren base, though it's just my perception, but Warren herself always made it sound like she would clearly be on Bernie's side when push came to shove. That he and she were natural allies from the get-go, and that whoever got the edge would get the other's support for the sake a pushing a truly progressive agenda. That their main goal would be to make the US a better place to live. After all, Bernie did encourage her to run in 2016. I mean, look at this:

But nope. At this point, one wonders if her failings are still mostly due to bad campaigning and bad advice from her staff, or if she always had it in her to play the career game like most politicians, country be damned. I used to be in the former camp and sweep her mistakes under the rug of political incompetence, but I'm not so sure anymore.

A disappointment through and through.

[EDIT] That poll someone posted below shows, unlike my perception, that Warren supporters still would largely support Sanders if she dropped out. It doesn't change my overall message, but let's be accurate.
Damn, those Bernie and Warren in sync are like fire and lightning. If these two had been the ticket in 2016 Trump would still be drowning himself in burgers at Trump tower and we'd have actual adults in charge of the country.

*sighs*
The Bloomberg second choice is wild! I would have assumed all to Biden.
People just want someone who they know can beat Trump. No one knows and it's driving everyone bananas.
Something for the Lo-Fi beats loving brethren:

I have no idea what to expect, but here we go...

Wow! You are right! That is so ironic!
The discourse between the two camps is becoming even more toxic than usual.

not good

He's still the frontrunner in the delegate count, national polling and likely the majority of super tuesday states. He will probably run away with the popular vote thanks to California, but it's not a guarantee that it'll hold all the way to the convention (even though I hope it does). Don't pay too much attention to cable news. They've been slanted in favor of whoever isn't Bernie since day one. Not fake news, but definitely slanted to some extents here and there.

I think that is a very natural reaction after her continued attacks against Bernie. I don't think Bernie supporters had much of an issue with Warren before she started attacking the front runner leftist candidate.

I don't really think theres anyway to know on Tuesday night either honestly. California takes ages to count thanks to mail in ballots (which don't have to be sent till day of) and Biden and Warren or whoever could be sitting between 14-16% and we just don't know if they're viable or not for like a week. Or they could be around 12 or 18 and we'll have a better idea.

I remember it getting bad earlier than that, though it picked up a bit between that point and the "woman can't win" stuff. Around when she'd hit first place and put out her M4A details, you got some pretty ugly stuff thrown at her.

Yeah I don't remember that at all. I saw the massive shift against Warren being distinctly after the "woman can't win" and the sexist accusations that followed.

candidates getting criticised for their policy stances is to be expected, this is a competitive primary

Sure, but this wasn't that. Lots of "betrayal" talk, which reads as more personal to me.

Yeah, that's when it got a lot worse. Funny how a woman speaking out about something she saw as problematic means she's suddenly an untrustworthy snake. But you saw the engines start to rev earlier.

But anyway - like I said, this is getting afield. Bernie supporters on Twitter can be pretty awful sometimes, but they're not the discussion topic of the thread.

Did he literally get finished talking with Chuck Todd or something? If that's the case then this seems kinda like a weak criticism of Biden's mental faculties when there are way, way worse gaffes out there.

I love Warren and I would have gleefully supported her had she run away with it but if she doesn't put her full support to back Bernie when she inevitably drops out, I'm going to assume she's more interested in Party politics than advancing true progressivism.

Warren took a lot of flack in 2016 for not supporting Sanders during the primary and while I personally understood the decision at that time, there's no excuse for her not to back Sanders this time around. They are the only two progressive candidates, the only two with the courage to campaign on M4A and the only two candidates not engorging themselves on the corporate teat.

Run as long as you feel you need to Elizabeth but when the time comes to drop out, do the right thing and endorse Bernie.

Please.

Boy, it’s gonna be amusing to get Biden in the debates again when most of the peanut gallery is gone and he’s forced to speak a lot more. I’m thinking that disappearing into the background isn’t going to work as well by then.

i think people take the concept of momentum way too seriously

sanders was always projected to win nh and nv and he did, despite pete stealing ia that's supposedly so important for "momentum". biden was always projected to win sc and he did despite sanders having all the "momentum" after the first three states

the super tuesday states are likely to go according to polls regardless of who currently has "momentum"

"momentum" is a trick employed by pundit hacks to gain clicks. what really matters is policies and organization and neither is likely to change over a couple of days. don't work yourself into a heart attack freaking out over shifts in "momentum" from the results of one state. remain cool

we might just be frequenting different places lol, I don't do political discourse elsewhere
Honestly I'd be willing to bet that it's down to where you're looking, yeah. I'm mostly here and on Twitter and thanks to the magic of the report system I see eeeeeeeeeverything that makes people angry here, and of course, Twitter is Twitter.

yeah that was a big problem the last go around, people would expand their frustrations beyond their original scope

Man, I'm 27 and I fuck up names after multiple meetings lol. Or one meeting.

I'm not good with names.

I think it can matter. Iowa this year was a wash because of the app debacle, but in the past, picking it up has shown to help out campaigns a lot. Ditto strings of wins.

It's sort of self-fulfilling, granted. Getting wins the pundits judge as "important" creates a narrative that means you get more free media which means you do better which means you get more free media. But it does exist, and there are delays in polling, especially since the next contest is so soon. I'd still expect Sanders to come out ahead, but that's more because he's got a much better ground game in ST states than Biden does.

People wait to vote till the last second. They want to vote for someone they think is going to win, if someone was on the fence between say Biden and Bloomberg - the beatdown in SC could make them very well more likely to choose the former rather than the latter in contests that take place 3 days later.

The only fracturing are people calling her a joke because she won’t concede and endorse Bernie. This just simply isn’t a thing with other candidates in the race. She doesn’t owe Bernie shit
I think you may have misunderstood what I meant by “here”. “Here” as in on Era. Unless there’s some huge push in this thread over the last 12 hours that I’m missing then what you’re describing isn’t happening. No one is saying she owes Sanders anything.

This feels like some petty, Bernie Bro-like, post-2016 grift where some try their hardest to find a way to tie hypocrisy to Sanders through his supporters. The word “owe” has been brought up. Someone used the word “coronation”. It’s not half as clever as people think it is. Everyone gets it. The implied “but in 2016...” is obvious.

But again it’s also not what’s happening here no matter how much some wish it was. Warren is tanking her own campaign and it sucks. The issue remains how bad she is at this, and how her best case scenario appears to be she actually gets some power...to do the thing the other candidates would’ve done if she wasn’t still in the race.

And no, Resetera isn’t going to fracture the party, and neither is Twitter or Facebook. The idea that anonymous people on the internet being mean to a 3rd, 4th, 4th, 5th place candidate matters as much as that actual candidate going full PUMA in public is absurd. Her trying to make a brokered convention a lock is literally a thing Trump has already been using this year. It’s the same “they’re going to screw Bernie” line Trump used last time.

Just saw that Pete says he isn’t pulling out - this will help siphon from Biden, along with Bloomberg, will help Bernie.
