Love reading these kinds of lists; always great to hear from the devs themselves.

Happy to see Detroit getting the recognition it deserves!

Cory has great taste. Spider-Man is my GOTY too and Yakuza 6 deserves some love.

It's a little funny how the indie devs have quite the variety in their lists. While the AAA picks are 90% what you'd expect to see this year.

Seems like if you're in the AAA space you kinda just stuck with AAA. While it's the reverse for indie devs, who do more looking around with their fellow smaller teams.

Cory was a gentleman not putting God of War on the list, the Bungie guy not so much.
God of War dominated even among directors.

Kind of funny seeing everybody listing the same 5 or so AAA games and then reading Kris Piotrowski's with 3 games I've never even heard of.

Well Indie devs are stuck with Indies only too. Generally if you are a AAA developer you can appreciate a good AAA product because you know how difficult it is to produce and develop a game that costs a lot and with all the commercial and creative pressures that come with it.

Indies similarly tend to better appreciate indie games that make it because they know how difficult it is to make an independent game as well. Indies dont seem to go out of their comfort zone too. Which is why you hardly see VR games on this list with Indie games.

Interesting to see IGA pretty big on mobile games.

That or he has Yokai fever.

Steve Cotton's is pretty gross because his pick isn't in humor, but that he's trying to plug it with the usual marketing hype speak trash.

What are you even talking about?

I am saying people tend to stick to the mediums they are most comfortable with.

AAA devs will likely mostly have AAA and AA games on their top 5 lists,

indies who make non VR games will mostly have non VR games on their lists

VR dev top 5 games will have mostly VR games no one has ever heard of.

Everyone usually stick to the medium they are comfortable with because they are in a better position to appreciate / critique something in that space.

Worrying lack of one of the best designed games this year, Hitman 2, on those lists.
