The combat is horrible!
lol.

Same with DMC 5, combat should be fluid so that you can build up combos, but the mechanics feel slow and limited. The bosses are done so that you have to be careful, but then how are you supposed to build up your combo rank? Getting an SSS is extremely hard, but not because the game is hard, but because it's broken!
Scrubquotes material. You're supposed to learn the mechanics and play well to get SSS rank. That takes time and practice. Don't beat yourself up over low ranks while learning the game, you aren't expected to get perfect scores your first time around. But you should actually learn the game and not just pout and complain about it being broken on the internet.

I get opinions and all but jeez...

The one that got me was saying the combat felt "limited". Even Nero, who has something like 20% of the amount of moves Dante has, felt like he has more moves available to him at all times than any other action game series.

I don't think it's bad, but I was a bit disappointed. I also stopped after finishing Chapter 15 and just watched the rest of the cutscenes on YouTube.

The combat had a small irritating feeling of jank IMO and I didn't like being forced to play as V. Part of the jank was because you had to hold down R1 (I played PS4) for moves but it also locked onto enemies and I couldn't really flow from one enemy to the other because of it.

But I think saying the game is bad is a bit harsh.

I agree with you OP but for entirely different reasons.

For me, it was the microtransactions and the nickel-and-diming present in the game that just threw me off.

They charge extra just for footage from the development of the game and people just lapped it up like Itsuno was personally baptizing our children. I for one can't support such shady business practices.

Not to discredit anything you said after this, but I pretty much knew what you were going to say once you started with this.

The only thing I can really say is that it's ok to not like a game. It's ok for a game to not be for you.

Yeah, you are 100% right. However, I think a lot of these responses mocking OP and not acknowledging that these criticisms come from a different perspective are in really poor taste.

I think it's a bad look. OP didn't like the game. I don't think that warrants making fun of him/her. That's not promoting any sort of discussion. Not that you are doing that, but reading through some of these responses is kind of sad.

I prefer the more fluid combat of Bayonetta to DMC but V is still amazing! it gets better the more you play and unlock the new moves and learn the systems better

"the combat is bad"

I don't even know how you could come to this conclusion... The fluidity, the combos, the sheer variety of possibilities. Just...no.

It's too bad it didn't click with you though! Hopefully your next game purchase is better suited.

Is this a meme/copypasta I'm unaware of?

I guess I dont have any problems with the combat, I'm not a combo fiend and I know what I signed up for so I shouldnt be disappointed when enemies mostly just stand around, its probably my fault for playing on normal. But pretty much everything else outside of the graphics was poor. The cutsceenes (which were too frequent and hampered the pace of the game imo) had me reaching for my phone, the first time since FFXIII a game have done so, the environments was just there and I have to struggle to remember much outside of the.. demon realm or whatever, the music didnt get me pumped either. The series isnt for me anymore and thats fine.

Haven't played it yet but I always hate stuff like that so I can relate.

But It is just factually wrong. Because only one enemy type can do that called Berserker or something , who after taking 2-3 hits go into rage mode where they do not get stunned by hits and attack right through them. Some enemies can have shields where they block your attacks so obviously the stun will be lesser and they can retaliate faster than you can attack again. You would need to dodge and attack or something.

Every enemy gets stunned ( Outside of maybe giant bosses ). Which is why everyone in this thread is so negative about it. The OP is just literally making stuff up.

"The combat is terrible". Yeah, no. DMC just isn't for you fella. It's pretty clear.

Also some of the weird contradictions in your OP make me question this whole thread. Just sounds like you're not good at the game, so you've decided you don't like it.

Didn't wow me either. I only play DMC games for their story and over the top action. Couldn't care less about getting perfect combos and Highscores.

I found it ok at best. Finished it once and never touched it again. Characters are good, as is the enemy design, but the surroundings were very samey with little variation and every mission felt like "I've been here before".

4 is still my favourite

Would it really have been so difficult to just title the thread, "I personally did not enjoy DMC 5"?

People might've actually read and responded to your OP in that case.

I had a great time with DMC5. I don't think it is a perfect game, but none of the problems I have with it are related to its combat. That is a damn fine combat engine they have going for them.
